    Agree 100%

The only team who could nullify Barca is another Barca or similar.

I largely agree with what you say though number1 is the most pertinent. My fear is that the magnitude of the loss – remember this is our heaviest defeat since 1937- may do some real damage.

    To add a cliche

This is when the manager really earns his corn.

Brendan didn’t have the defensively-focused players at his disposal to park the bus. If he had,he would have done so.

Professionally,it would have been the right thing to do. If possible.

The huns had players like that a few years back. Loadsa them.

They parked the bus,it was anti-football,it would have got football stopped.

I’m not happy wi 7-0. Of course not.

But I’m faffing delighted we have a manager who wants to play football properly, and is willing to invest the time and energy in getting the right players around him to do so.

  4. Too much handwringing.Barca are the greatest club EVER in football. The front 3 could on any given night do that to any team on the planet. They already have done so.We are just getting a team together. We knew this. One transfer window in.When they play like that they are unstoppable.Fact.When we beat them 2-1 at Celtic park it could just as easily been 7-2 to them.

They are a phenomenon. We are a team pulling ourselves together with a new manager, new players, trying to compete against a force of nature.

No criticism from me to any of the players last night, but a special word about Broony.Terrific performance last night in the face of overwhelming odds.

    I did mention that.

I agree with you. We don’t have players to park the bus at this time but we need them when we play away from home in Europe.

It’s commendable to try to play football at all times but I think there is a time and a place and away in the Nou Camp given their attacking prowess is not that time.

We don’t have Wanyama in there now. We don’t have an inspirational keeper between the sticks either.

A lot of changes are needed between now and next season so that results like last night are less likely.

We haven’t kept a clean sheet since Lincoln Red Imps at home. We need to address that.

Not tracking runners/ball watching. It happened from the first goal to the last

    ———

Was really shocked just watching how bad it was. Schoolboy stuff at times.

Yes – Barcelona are a great team. So why make it even easier for them!?

  7. Dexter says HAVE WE ALL FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE LIVING WAGE AT CELTIC PARK??? on

Whilst Barca are an amazing team, we cannot simply say that they could do that to anyone. The reality is that only a couple of seasons back we put in some very creditable performances at Camp Nou against a similarly amazing side. Our team then wasn’t of a vastly different standard.

That performance last night was unacceptable. Barca never got out of second gear. They didn’t actually play brilliantly. I watch them every week. I consider them my second team. I have seen them play much better and with sharper and quicker passing, though not scoring as many.

We gifted so much of last night to them. They were not faced with an opposition who harried and chased, who were physical. When Barca get beaten, that is how it’s done. It’s not easy but that’s what needs to be tried at least.

Bitton offered nothing. De Vries was poor. All the lads lost possession easily and so many times they failed with the basic skill of trapping the ball or taking a first touch. I think the team froze.

Right back/midfield was the glaring weakness and Barca quickly exploited that. Rodgers should have switched Lustig to RB and/or introduced armstrong to offer more protection.

Barring a huge change in application and effort, City will similarly trounce us.

  8. Reluctant to go down the road of scapegoating but I agree with those criticising Bitton.

Also agree Turkeybhoy, I thought Brown was very good last night.

And you nailed it right there.

We can’t keep a clean sheet against run-of-the-mill sides.

No point in parking the bus,try and take a few goals off them.

We are nowhere near the team that BR wants us to be. There are certain players there whom he probably wants long-term,but there are a lot more he doesn’t

And the former need time to grow into his way of playing.

TBH,no point in hand-wringing about a hammering which resulted largely because of our past. Use it as a pointer to the future.

Mibbe we jooost couldnae get near them?

In a nutshell.Far better teams than us could”nt.Look at Pauls list of their results from last season. They took 7 of a German CL team.

  12. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

When we had the ball, Barca were like dervishes, all over us before we could even look up.

They anticipated our passes and were on to our players in a flash.

As a result, we couldn’t short pass our way out of defence, which was our intention.

This left us with the aimless punt up the park, which inevitably led to a boomerang return.

The development game in the afternoon began in a similar pattern, with the young Barca boys looking much sharper in thought and action.

Fortunately, the Celtic boys dug in and could have salvaged a point.

What helped our lads in that game was the fact that they are a cohesive unit, who , most of them, have been playing together for a few years, A luxury the first team don’t have.

How long have Piqué, Busquets, Jordi Alba, Iniesta, Messi. Neymar and even Suarez, been together.

Even if they just met on the bus, they would still have beaten us.

Apart from their individual skills, Barca have a telepathic understanding of each other.
