Bayern elite up next

301

Bayern Munich sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga having lost only one game from 19 this season (at Mainz).  As a guide, they sit 22 points head of Borussia Dortmund.

They are in the Champions League playoffs because of a bizarre result in Rotterdam.  They had 80% possession against Feyenoord and missed all of their 30 shots on goal.  Feyenoord scored with each of their three attempts.

The German side are smarting after they failed to win 12 domestic titles in a row last term.  They are one of the strongest clubs in world football and will inevitably progress beyond Celtic.

None of that matters.  Celtic still have lots to gain and learn from this tie.  There will hopefully be challenges later this year in the Champions League against teams of this calibre, let’s arrive at them with a honed plan.  We play Bayern free from the stress of expectation.  Let’s enjoy the occasion.

THE LONG WAIT IS OVER on 31ST JANUARY 2025 1:47 PM

    Anyone know anything definitive?

I was at the game, it didn’t come from a corporate area.

    ————

    Noted – thanks

Are you willing / able to be more specific?

    GB?

FWIW – I believe we’ll sign two players before the end of this window.

    One or both on Monday.

As for the threat of a supporter ban, not sure how likely or not it is.

    Anyone got intel?

  4. CELTIC40ME @ 1:47 PM,

Apologies, we obviously played eight games, not seven.

No need for forgiveness, you’ve obviously seen the flaw.

    Celtic’s opponents average 8.115 pts a total of 65.

If Celtic had lost all their games the total would be 80 points.

So our opponents would have averaged 10 it’s.

Which means we would have performed better if we lost all our games

    Right!?

    Hail Hail

    TangBhoy,

I agree with your post and find it really annoying that this happens on a consistent basis. Delaying of games until the atmosphere clears in cup finals and champions league games, being warned and fined constantly that they blatantly just ignore the damage that it does to our reputation. A reputation hard earned by fans far more travelled and Celtic minded than those who continue to tarnish our reputation. My auld man travelled to Lisbon in 67 and was on the field with the rest of them, and probably some on this site, (auld duffers:)))), but there was no pyro, there was no violence, just the sheer joy of winning the Big Cup. I ve been to many a game growing up and sang songs with the best of them, but never had the urge to throw something that could blind someone, or delay a game, or cause MY team to continually be fined for the actions of a moronic number. As KelvinBhoy said earlier as well, how do they get the tickets, or even how do they afford to travel all over Europe. I, Like all of you, work pretty damn hard to give my kids a great life, and pay for their College and everything else that High School over here can throw at me. there are not enough hours in the day for me to work/coach. What am I doing wrong that I can’t live vicariously like those that continue to sully our great club’s name and reputation all over Europe. We should be celebrating the next game against Munich, but here we are sending our team into one of the toughest games that we could get, and Munich will not be blessed with the chance to hear and see our genuine fans that have the best interests of OUR Club.

I am sorry my friends for this rant and if you want to skip past it then no problem, but it irks me when even folks over here who do not know the great things about our club and have never really talked to me about fitba before, find a way to see negativity about OUR team.

I will shut up now and get back to my first period class about to start in 2 minutes.

    Hail Hail.

    Sean

    Anyone got intel?

    Celtic FC Statement:

As a result of the use of pyrotechnics during our match against Borussia Dortmund last year, Celtic Football Club was sanctioned by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

The decision meant that, not only did the Club receive a fine of €20,000, but also that, if such behaviour was repeated at a match in the next two years, the Club would be prevented from selling tickets to supporters for one away match in UEFA club competitions.

Unfortunately, the club has received a further disciplinary notice from UEFA following the match against Aston Villa FC on Wednesday evening.

The Club will obviously make robust representations to UEFA and will make every effort to ensure that our fans can attend our next UEFA Champions League match. However, clearly there is a risk that supporters may not be able to attend.

In light of this situation, it is incumbent on the club to make supporters aware of this risk, when considering making arrangements for travel, until further information is provided by UEFA.

“As for the threat of a supporter ban, not sure how likely or not it is.

    Anyone got intel?”

No intel but at our last home CL game there were flares galore in the away end iirc and we, despite being hosts and in control (to a degree) of who enters and what they bring in, were not liable; the away club is still liable in the eyes of EUFA for the actions of their fans in any stadium.

Given we were effectively on a suspended sentence I think it is almost guaranteed to see a ban on sales to our fans, or at least the rank and file fans. I do not think there is any avenue to appeal and we are just awaiting the almost inevitable confirmation from EUFA.

    B78-The facts are clear.

    AT- your interpretation is

B78-They had a series of games including 5 of the top 10 from the 36 in their competition.

AT-Do you seek parity with that competition? Against the one Celtic played in?

Celtic finishing above english champions Citeh

B78-They had a very weak squad for various reasons, they were in a period of turmoil off and on the park.

AT- Whose made their turmoil? They faced a injury ravaged Spurs,a FCSB side who prioritized domestic fixtures, beaten by a terrible Manure,in general sides who faced their own turmoil,Union SG had 2 of their best players sent of the previous week by a scottish referee!!

B78-They still got directly through to Top 8.

Although it may not be best financial outcome it will give them a real bounce of energy and put a smile on their faces. Momentum means a lot in football. They have arrested this.

AT- Top8 in a tourney that equates nowhere near the standard of CL,but i get you.

The differential between CL and EL are immense.

You are acknowledging their momentum without even giving a hint of a compliment to what Brendan and the bhoys did in CL

    -Finished above their seeding(32-24)

    -Finished above english champions

-finished above CL winners of 2 years ago

Yeh momentum means a lot,ask bout Ross County,Mwell last year when they had a route only to cut their own rope!

B78- They are still our biggest rival. Hence my concern. Too many scars from the past for me to ignore them.

AT- In your opinion they are our biggest rivals, lets see where it stands after a few years of qualifying

the monetary differentials are that great and as the years go on they will become greater and the gap wider(where is your ambition B78?And confidence in our i)our board?ii)our football management team?

Psychologically you acknowledge as moving forward anything to do with the hun while simultaneously sneering or limiting our own

position on moving forward,by your posts you show fear of this by for e.g relating our transfer spend to what wee Dick cheat and Sir Cheat were doing in late 20th century- we,Celtic are not, nowhere near such a comparison, its just mince i am afraid we are nothing near those levels of irresponsibility to compare.

It is up to us as a club, board and fans to start moving away from the ‘whiturrthihunsdaen’ brain disease. Its not ignoring them, its being professional about our business and the success’s it brings. The days of waiting and wondering if they are coming are a waste of your good brain B78,so a bit more confidence in Celtic,Brendan and our team please B78

if you were thinking of going to Munchen, but the club are told they wont get any tickets, then for the majority of fans it doesnt make any difference because they wouldnt have got one from celtic anyway, and would have been going hoping to get one for the Bayern sections, so nothing has changed and you are as well booking up anyway

    Folks,

I think – and hope – that this will be a watershed moment regarding supporter behaviour.

If there is a blanket ban on our supporters for Munich, it will mean that those in the Executive Club and other ‘fat cat’ seats will be affected in the same way as those who use pyro, and misbehave otherwise. There will be lots of innocent people refused tickets. I would imagine that this could produce pressure on management to change how they allocate tickets in the future.

I was in Seville. Things have changed since then, sadly.

yes but were all the tickets in that area used by those corporate fans or did the corporate fan get the ticket from celtic but gave it to someone in their family or something like that because they had no intention of going?

i suspect thats how a lot of folk get their tickets for away games – via someone they know who has a corporate season ticket.

The photo on the Celticnewsnow article is pretty good.

People know who that guy is.

    —————————-‐——————————————-

Vale Bhoy – that brings another dimension with any nutcase now able to exact some form of their own punishment or namng them online. However daft that person has been, it could get out of control very easily. Fingers crossed it does not and the relevant authorities as well as the Club sort it.

  16. UEFA has already made their decision , it was 2 years without another pyro incident, that guy broke the terms of their decision so Celtic won’t be allowed an allocation, unless UEFA break their own decision which I doubt very much as this has been recurring behaviour and any action taken by Celtic has been ineffective. So Celtic need to deal with their pyro maniacs from whatever section of the support they are from, the longer this has been going on makes me really wonder where they’re getting the tickets from.

“If there is a blanket ban on our supporters for Munich, it will mean that those in the Executive Club and other ‘fat cat’ seats will be affected in the same way as those who use pyro, and misbehave otherwise.”

When I posted that away ticket sales for the rank and file Celtic supporters would likely not happen I was thinking of when the old huns were banned from the San Siro and their “official” party were still able to attend and were heard singing the usual bile; I can’t recall if that was just club staff and official guests or also included sponsor sales etc?

I also did the Bayern tour not long ago and think that all the VIP seats might not be segregated as the tour guide told a wee story of a minor barney between some suits supporting opposing teams – so it could be that these are not split into Home and Away sales and might be open to anyone?!

  22. Unfortunately I think we’re almost certain to get a ban for Munich.

Munich themselves got an away fan ban last year for breaching their probation period for pyro.

Given that we currently have a suspended ban from 16th October last year it seems a certainty.

    From UEFA website 16 10 24

    “ Charges against Celtic FC:

Lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) DR

    Decision:

    The CEDB has decided:

To fine Celtic FC €20,000 and to ban Celtic FC from selling tickets to its away supporters for a total of one (1) UEFA club competition match, for lighting of fireworks. 28. Just listened to Brendan’s presser.

Got a little bit tetchy when questioned about KT.

Just my take on it and I thought this at the time, perhaps he shouldn’t have said KT would be a Celtic player in the summer before an official announcement.

Could be Arsenal weren’t happy as he was still involved in their squads for a couple of important games.

    Just a thought.

Incidentally, two and a half minutes of the presser devoted to Sunday’s game and that was nearly all about Kettlewell.

  29. Why is the head of recruitment not speaking to the media rather than Rodger’s,him saying the same patter as previous managers, personally i think there will be no more additions to this squad.

  30. tangbhoy on 31st January 2025 12:34 pm

I completely agree. Attitudes to our club have changed.

The ultra scene has certainly introduced a new level of toxicness.

I work with supporters of many clubs all over the country and from being generally supportive of Celtic they now have no time for us. Changed days indeed.

In Scotland many supporters have expressed the view that they prefer empty stands rather than see Celtic supporters fill them.

It seems crazy that losing money is preferable, but there it is.

They now perceive us as a divisive, sectarian support who bring unwanted politics into their home and every bit as bad as the huns. Two cheeks etc.

( This is not my perception. )

It is not good and as a wider support we need to acknowledge this.

Pyro may be in focus at this time, but it is other issues that will pose the greater danger to our reputation and status going forward
