Bayern Munich sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga having lost only one game from 19 this season (at Mainz). As a guide, they sit 22 points head of Borussia Dortmund.
They are in the Champions League playoffs because of a bizarre result in Rotterdam. They had 80% possession against Feyenoord and missed all of their 30 shots on goal. Feyenoord scored with each of their three attempts.
The German side are smarting after they failed to win 12 domestic titles in a row last term. They are one of the strongest clubs in world football and will inevitably progress beyond Celtic.
None of that matters. Celtic still have lots to gain and learn from this tie. There will hopefully be challenges later this year in the Champions League against teams of this calibre, let’s arrive at them with a honed plan. We play Bayern free from the stress of expectation. Let’s enjoy the occasion.

ps,
the treatment of James McClean by rival football clubs supporters (and sometimes his own clubs) sums them up for me.

Birmingham
Birmingham has a large Irish community, dating back to the Industrial Revolution, it is estimated that Birmingham has the largest Irish population per capita in Britain. Digbeth is the traditional Irish area in Birmingham. During the 1950s Sparkhill, Sparkbrook, Aston, and Nechells were the main Irish areas. Today many Irish people live in areas such as Hall Green and Erdington. Birmingham has the UK’s largest St Patricks Day’s Parade (and the world’s third biggest) and Britain’s only Irish Quarter, with many traditional Irish pubs and the Birmingham Irish centre. Irish people have always moved to Birmingham for work especially for the construction, factory and industrial work which the city had to offer. Many Irish people moved to Birmingham to build canals, roads and railways in the city’s industrial past. St Chad’s Cathedral is one of only two of the minor Basilicas in the UK. It is very important as the first Catholic church built in Britain after the English Reformation, and was designed by the architect Augustus Pugin.
Googled this and found the quoted text below … after listening to Flower of Scotland at Murrayfield.
I quite like the bagpipes … but if they can’t get the job done why use them?
“I remember the Corries, who wrote this song singing it in Edinburgh in the 1970s, to the accompaniment of a number of instruments, some of which they had invented. But not the Highland bagpipes. Again, the reason is simple – their songs used various scales that are completely beyond the great pipes. You hear the problem on the third last note of “Flower of Scotland”. It’s a minor 7th. The pipes can only manage something a semitone higher. Consquence – at Murrayfield the pipe band play one note, all the instincts of the crowd make them want one a semitone lower, and the result is horrible”
BTB,
Very sharp Ihenacho.Hoiland, you mentioned earlier,at the moment couldn’t kick doors at Halloween.£70 million, dear God.

Wow forget the tin hat . Suit of armour required . You obviously were in disagreement with my thought . Too bad . My post was my feelings on the matter . Fair play with yours HH
I agree ,could not give a toss what Little Englanders think.Raped and pillaged, murdered their way to an empire, and now offened by some songs. The atrocities they have commited.
Dont get me started on the descends of irish stock now making up the backbone of england team.
When i watch them bellowing out LONG TO REIGN OVER US i think did their GRANNIES not tell them about the BLACK N TANS.
Good to hear contrasting views on supporters songbook, flags etc. I too sang the rebs at Celtic Park but not for about 30 years and I do think we are in a very different political and social era with regards to the North of Ireland. My own view is that am at a loss why someone would take a flag and sing about Michael Fagan in 2025 or for that matter, have every other song about the IRA. I think the world and a lot of the Celtic support are in a different place now……Tin hat on too.

Turkeybhoy,
Sorry you gave up on us on Wednesday night after 8 minutes. You would have seen two great goals from us.
I note you choose to live in Turkey. No problem, its your choice, but it can be said that they also have a history of rape, murder, pillage and genocide as an Empire.
How do you think you would get on taking to your street with Kurdish banners and songs ?
Midnight Express springs to mind .
Its 2025, we all need to build Bridges, not strengthen division.
When the huns go low, we go high. Unfortunately a minority of us also went low and emulated the huns.
HH.
I think undoubtedly we are hated more in England now than ever before…mostly down to social media and stuff like talk sport. The great poppy debate every year gets massive coverage especially this year for some reason.
Football brings out the worst side of banter ..a Michael Fagin banner is banter …a bit sick sure ..but banter all the same.
The huns have also done a number on us mainly again through social media constantly telling the English that we hate them…we don’t..we hate the huns !!….I don’t think our song book is as good as it was 10 15 years ago where I thought it was more creative…onwards and upwards …looks like BR getting pissed off again…

Greenpinta,
I could not print what I think about this regimes politics,or leader.I live here for the weather, the Health Care, and the great standard of life we have.
Not many countries without a dodgy past, but ,England takes great pride in glorifying theirs. You will remember our history lessons from school.

When we lived in Marlow, we went to St Peter’s, it’s a modern Church but the original small Church, which is still there was designed and built by Augustus Pugin.
The Church hall was also designed by Augustus Pugin – it’s called the Pugin Rooms and my three children’s first communions were celebrated in there.

I have actually been there.
For a few years I went to Henley management college, and a lecturer from stirling told me about the history of st peters so I did a detour to see it one summers days.
Is there not some famous burial ? or memorial also ?
small world, but i wouldnt want to paint it.
Re the comments on the Nova Scotia flag from last night, it’s the most Scottish province in a Scottish themed country especially Cape Breton where they still speak gaelic, one of our daughters worked there for 31/2 years and Mrs TT visited it often, only problem it does have severe winters.
As for Mark Carney former Governor of the Bank of Canada for 5 years who led the country though the financial crisis of the late 90s, no Canadian banks went bust in contrast to the US ones, he was headhunted by the Bank of England which he led through Brexit, after that he was also the United Nations special envoy for climate action and finance.
He was born in the Northwest Territories before the family relocated to Edmonton when he was six and his paternal grandparents came for Co. Mayo, he graduated from Harvard in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree with high honours in economics, before postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford at St Peter’s College and Nuffield College, receiving master’s and doctoral degrees in the same field in 1993 and 1995, respectively, and in addition to his Canadian citizenship, he also holds American, Irish and British citizenship.
No offence to Chrystia Freeland, another smart cookie out there, who had a Glasgow born war bride granny, but Mark will make mincemeat of poilievre aka pee wee herman in the next federal election in between putting tangerine heid in his place.
BhoyJoeBelfast,

celtic mac, tontine,

Tom Devine says Neil Oliver[if that’s who you mean] is not a historian he has no formal qualifications in History , he does ihave qualifications in archaeology.
Ireland back in it minutes after a blatant leg trip by England defender … right in front of the touch judge.

*******
Maybe he should talk to Liam Morrison, warming the bench for QPR, Daniel Kelly doing similar for Millwall and Roco Vata, not warming the bench for Watford ( maybe injured?). We all know money talks, but surely one of these bhoys want to become a local hero. Don’t know if Daniel is good enough, really hope he is and if he is he’ll be idolised.

Have in fact seen Neil Oliver’s ‘The Hector’, great piece of broadcastng, ……it tells a tale. One of many
Had a lot of time for him early doors, his work with ‘Coast’, combining his background in archeology, with history and geography, and later works on the Celts, and Scotland, the Vikings etc. Before he went off the rails.
Quite like that he did not ignore the impact on those already there, as in not always positive, but not totally negative either, as told via individual stories. Will try and visit Nova Scotia at some point.

*I did, btw I read a history of the Hudson Bay Co, big book tae, and it focused on the beaver felt wars between them and the French Canadians in Quebec, it seems that it was the Highlanders and Métis Indians that kept the Catholic faith alive in Canada.
SAINT STIVS @ 4:42 PM,
Yes, I’d forgotten you went to Henley.
Not sure about the famous memorial, lots of history around the Thames Valley though, the “naked nymph” statue is some sort of memorial – and the Steve Redgrave statue, but think that would be after your time.

Turkeybhoy where about are you based. My bro is planning to retire and live in his place at Kalkan. I spent a bit of time travelling the length and breadth of Asia Minor when I was young and free. It was my favourite place. Crammed with history and the people in every corner were incredibly friendly, sharing there stories of their peoples.
very good win by Ireland
Ireland are smartest group in the six nations.
England? Growl, snarl, shouting loud when they win a throw in or the put in at a scrum.
With trips, no arms tackles and fly stamps in rucks.
Schoolboy behaviour.
Great wins for Scotland and Ireland today. 🏉
Taurangabhoy,
I am up in Kusadasi, about 30 mins from Ephesus and Marys House,in the Aydin region,on the coast of the Aegean.Your brother is down on the Med side, near Antalya,as you would know.
