Bayern elite up next

301

Bayern Munich sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga having lost only one game from 19 this season (at Mainz).  As a guide, they sit 22 points head of Borussia Dortmund.

They are in the Champions League playoffs because of a bizarre result in Rotterdam.  They had 80% possession against Feyenoord and missed all of their 30 shots on goal.  Feyenoord scored with each of their three attempts.

The German side are smarting after they failed to win 12 domestic titles in a row last term.  They are one of the strongest clubs in world football and will inevitably progress beyond Celtic.

None of that matters.  Celtic still have lots to gain and learn from this tie.  There will hopefully be challenges later this year in the Champions League against teams of this calibre, let’s arrive at them with a honed plan.  We play Bayern free from the stress of expectation.  Let’s enjoy the occasion.

  1. Well, none of the strikers mentioned will be coming, unless the Strelic interest has some truth.

  2. MOR is having a nightmare at Brighton.Watching their games, the manager seems clueless where to play him.He looks lost most of the time.

    I bring good news.

The head of the wee guy who fronts Celtic Fans TV has again just exploded.

I say “again” because in one of his vlog’s towards the end of August I honestly thought he was about to have a heart attack.

    Quality over ticbait😉

Just saw the “highlights” of two games on Sportscene (or “3 huns lounge around” as it is sometimes known).

    Gott In Himmel !!

The kind of football matches you’d faithfully promise to take your kids too …

    … unless they start behaving.

The writing has been on the wall (no pun intended) for a long time for these people.

None is prepared to pay money for what they know is absolute crap.

How long would Shortie survive without (our) taxpayers money?

It’s the biggest scandal of them all.

I think Thompson and Naismith were?

    Not sure about Bell.

Don’t know where Naismith invested his untaxed, never to be repaid loans …

… but it wasn’t in elocution lessons.

Not a tax expert, but can only assume the liability for the unpaid tax of Thomson, McCann et.al. lay with liquidated Old Co.

These guys literally got off Scot free.

Only in Scotland could these guys get employment with a tax payer funded organisation.

  8. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

While I’m at it, what on earth was Premier Sports doing broadcasting a game from Rugby Park?

Places like that should be given minimal exposure.

  9. Bell had a podcast which was warned about sectarian language on it,don’t be fooled, from Dumfries, nuff said

  10. Turkeybhoy unless our main target materialises we will be relying on Maeda, Idah and Kenny to get us the goals to close out the SPL and SC. Nothing to lose against Bayern but you wouldn’t put a bet on it.

I didn’t get to Kusadasi but I am sure it is great spot. I did get to visit Ephesus in both my trips, awesome place. My other highlights were Nemrut Dagi immediately after it opened up in winter, Cappadocia in winter, crossing lake Van, Harran, Sanliurfa, Ishak Pasha, Aratat, and Kars, and of course Istanbul. Northern Coast was a lot different to the rest of Turkey, quite grim but interesting. I avoided Ankara and Erdogans mobs. Looking forward to getting the Rhodes Fetihye ferry in April. Some more Lycian stuff to check out before flying home to Glasgow with my bro. Hail Hail.

  11. Turkeybhoy ..

Am I reading this right … a Coatbrig Bhoy … debatably since Shawhead/Whiflett is more outer Coatbrig :-)

Why turn off if getting beat … you must have not watched us much late 80s early 90s mate :-)

  12. Aston Villa Quick News….

“Why can we not play Celtic every week instead these teams with clued up managers?”

On the bright side, at least we won’t have to live in fear about the top half of the EPL, and all of the top CL clubs trying to prize Rodgers away from Parkhead. Woof!

  13. GFTB,

    Defeats I can take,not tankings.Cant watch that.Walked out,PSG,games twice,and a few others.Don’t take narrow defeats very well.

Not Whifflet or Shawhead.Originally Glasgow, moved out when first married.

    When it was good 😇😇😇😇😇

  14. been reading back

    agreed with st stivs

incredible to think that you lot are piling in on the celtic support as opposed to having a wee think about the rise of the “no Surrender to the IRA” lot who follow england, the rise of the far right down there, the support among football “lads” for the likes of Tommy Robinson, the hatred of the Palestinian movement by the same lot and the likes of fannies from Leeds (as seen on recent Social media).

Did any of you see the Villa flag on the motorway either.

    Simon feckin Jordan.

What next, agree with James c*nt Whale, Nigel Farage and many others ?

Aye times have moved on indeed.

  15. Good Morning Fholks…

So when did they chuck Whiflett outa’ Coatbrig.!?

Will be interesting to see the team today, my guess it will the first eleven with CCV back in the middle.

Jota on the bench, Jota, Jota on the bench.

    Bid Adam up front…

    Meada back…

Back to winning ways in the SPL.

Hopeful someone is busy on the phone to a striker, with KT on speed-dial…

    COYBIG

    Hail Hail

  16. Good morning from a dry, dull but chilly North Staffs.

Good result for the Vale yesterday considering we were down to 10 men for 80 mins. Never a red card – ref was terrible all game.

I’d be surprised if Jota wasn’t on the bench today.

Sky TV at 3pm on Sunday is odd.

Off to Mass – other services are available.

  17. BR has full control of our signing and negotiating policy now .

He has been given the rope .

He is now experiencing first hand just how difficult it is to sign your targeted players.

Constantly shifting sands .Players ,agents, clubs ,all with their own desires ,mixed in with a little greed ,and unrealistic ambitions.

All to be managed within the budget of a Scottish football club ,and with the appeal of the SPFL,with the likelihood of one glamour knockout tie in the CL ,and a chance of a league & SC winners medals .

I suspect that he has had his eyes opened and will be more appreciative of the difficulties that faced MN and PL in trying to conclude deals .

    TT

  18. Has KT actually put pen to paper with Celtic on ANY deal ?

Is BR trying to pressure him into coming at the end of the season by publicly stating that KT will be a Celtic player NEXT season ?

    TT

  19. We have one left back and one striker so if we don’t land our targets we will no doubt be landed with loanees.

    The board are to blame.

  20. Chairbhoy

Whiflett always a good Celtic place, went on the Barnyard bus a couple of times back in the day and obviously the Big Tree, Whiflett Arms & the Forge good Celtic boozers … just a wee joke, anyways always far better than Hun ridden Airdrie :-)

  21. Huge game today.

After our 3-3 at Dundee (who lost 0-6 to Hertz yesterday) it was clear we should take nothing for granted. Personally I don’t want to give that lot a sniff right now.

A solid fast start and then rotate and maybe get some minutes for Jota who hasn’t kicked a ball in 2 years in earnest.

  22. TINYTIM @ 8:41 AM &8:47 AM,

KT has signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will be a Celtic player in the summer.

    The issue is complicated.

The first spanner in the works seemed to be Arsenal accepting a bid for Keiran at the start of the window and the SMSM and social media reporting that he was going to Celtic.

The second issue is a genuine issue Arsenal have at left back, Oleksandr Zinchenko deemed not good enough and being sold.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, seems to have a terrible injury history, Myles Lewis-Skelly is their preferred left back, a youngster with currently little back up.

“I suspect that he [Brendan Rodger] has had his eyes opened and will be more appreciative of the difficulties that faced MN and PL in trying to conclude deals .”

Brendan Rodgers is the football Manager and is part of a relatively complex recruitment process, he seems to have final say, that sits well with me, but is by no means the only cog in the machine.

POV: It’s very unfair to compare what Micheal Nicholson has achieved in player recruitment with Peter Lawwell’s hotch potch approach.

Outside Mark Lawwell’s recruits Michael has done extremely well..

    Hail Hail

  23. GFTB @ 9:57 AM,

Yes, knew you were joking, went to school for a short time in Whiflett and played Football on Whifflett Park.

Good memories – had a cousin who left “hun ridden Airdrie” to live in Whifflet for a bit in the 80s… so when we visited her a few pints in the Whiflett Arms was the norm…

    Good timed:))

    Hail Hail

  24. Maestro

    That’s hilarious

The guy wanted to have his man in charge of recruitment.

He got his way and been bragging of big talks in Dublin with the major shareholder about future plans and who we buy etc.

The whole thing is now a shit show with no semblance of a strategic plan or long term vision only let’s sign somebody we know or who we once played against for some short term sugar hit.

Then we have broken records about it being the Boards fault.

Who in the board exactly has recruitment as their brief ?

  25. Chairbhoy

Played for Connexxion’s (Whiflett Arms) in the Sunday league back in the 90s, the pub is now back to its normal name :-) obviously jesting about Airdrie as also played fitba back then and our local was the Wayside which am sure you will remember but sadly has now been closed for a number of years

  26. Chairbhoy

The entire window has been a shambles.

You know where the blame lies.

Not a semblance of structure or strategy.

Even our rivals, with no cash have made more strategic moves this window.

  27. Vague memories of Strelec at the Euros showed up relatively well but seemed to be a runner who liked space to run into , flashbacks to the bold Harold. I would doubt this lad suits our style and maybe a squirrel.

Young Mathias looks a far better all round player ability to shield the ball and turn in tight spaces is exactly what we’re after. I’m sure we can come to some agreement with phased payments, sell on clauses and the like.

On KT still can’t shake the illogical thought that the little shit Arteta will simply not play ball with us. Still banking on the goofers not wanting an unhappy player who they’ve already decided is surplus to requirements hanging about 1st team training. Minute to midnight on this one.

    HH

  28. KT is contracted to his current club for over £100k @ week, he has signed for us for considerably less (I would imagine) Arsenal are still liable to pay him till June so why should he (or his agent) not want paid up

I think (Kyogo apart who wanted to go) we have done great business and will add 2 more players before Monday nights deadline

  29. TT

No way do I believe BR is responsible for getting signings over the line, the final say on who we sign yes but not the negotiations not a chance because that is mot his responsibility.
