  1. Well I usually have an early night after a defeat ,but I am going to reflect on tonight, and think out of small acorns etc., etc.,

Tonight once again makes me happy to be born into the Celtic family 🇮🇹☘️HH

  2. I expect to see us motor on now in a big way for the remainder of the season. The fixture list was unrelenting for months now. I thought we handled the demands extremely well.

Pathway to having the “competitive” squad Brendan wants looks clear.

Brutal and simplistic in equal measure but here goes.

Those out on loan already are sold. A few shekels come in.

Yang – really like you kid and want you to do well but you’re short of what Brendan wants. Sell for good money or loan then sell.

    Maik – see above.

Kenny – star of the Conference League. A few bob can be garnered.

Greg – goodbye and (genuinely) good luck.

5 midfielders currently needs to be 6. Buy a young good ‘un and start planning for life after Callum.

Kieran and another full back. Jeffrey would be pricey wages wise but he and KT could be the combined answer to a 60 game per season demand over the next 2 seasons.

A winger upgrade on Yang to eventually replace James Forrest.

    A striker.

Gives us 4½ wingers and 2½ strikers in the squad.

    Easy on paper.

    Reality is the tricky bit.

  4. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Out of left field this one perhaps … but a special mention to a rarely used squad player.

Both Ange and Brendan have publicly praised his contribution to the group in the dressing room and in training.

And after big goals are scored and the camera pans to our dugout?

He’s always the most ecstatic looking of the gang.

    Step forward, Scottie Bain.

Pope Francis is pro Russian and anti Ukrainian…..and not a friend of Palestine. The best Pope we ever had was Pope John Paul the second. And the only Pope who visited Glasgow.

  6. Majestic Hartson on

Thinking about how we will struggle to year in year out buy players who are at a level to compete at this level, and then having to be able to hold onto them after such good champions league performances.

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Just watched the VideoCelts clip of the Maeda foul.

Assistant ref has a clear view of the foul.

In his foreground – but not blocking his line of sight – is a Bayern player receiving a back pass … so no assessment of an offside situation to distract him.

    Poor.

  8. Dushanbe

the german pope drove past me at Charing cross.

at least they told me he was in the motor.

popped along from the office just to see it.

cant say for sure whether i heard the Celtic Symphony blaring out the windows tho :)

    Good summary.

But who – pray – in what league is going to buy Yang for good money ? I’m not seeing that level of consistency or reliability in the lad despite multiple opportunities to show it.

  10. Our Bhoys were brilliant to a man tonight. They didn’t deserve to be knocked out like that but we have won hundreds of games ourselves with last gasp goals. We were excellent throughout and were a formidable opponent for Bayern. We well and truly rattled their cage but wasn’t it a brilliant game to watch? Not a single player was booked but everybody gave their all. No one was more relieved than Vincent Kompany. We have made so much progress this season in Europe. The Club must keep backing Brendan and we must look at players contracts and ensure that those we wish to keep are signed on longer term contracts.

Well done Celtic and Brendan and his staff. It was a joy to watch until the lady 45 seconds. So, so proud of everyone of them. Hail! Hail!

Quad – cheers. Fair query re Yang.

Celtic are an high performance club now.

Our top performers are elite athletes worth tens of millions in the current market.

Guys who can’t get near the first team squad, like Bosun, will cost inferior clubs £2m … and they’ll be happy to pay that for a good prospect who can quickly be effective at their level.

Guys on the fringe of the squad like Oh and Yang will cost more.

We’re not at Arsenal’s level yet … £60m for two fringe players, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith-Rowe …

… but gone are the days when we put squad players out with the rubbish.

  12. Schluup shows why we’ve been screaming for a physical strong left back for seasons. He was immense. Another impact of his presence and ability is the fact we rarely seen trusty stretched out of position to cover for Taylor.

Allows us to be more compact. I’d sign him immediately for his speed and physicality and flexibility (defence and midfield). Pure quality that we need.

  13. brilliant performance, so unlucky, we showed, heart, composure, and game intelligence, we deserved extra time, well done to the players, and our outstanding manager, we need to do our best keep him,the best we have played against that quality of opposition for a long, long time

  14. Not a game for moaning about X Y and Z,be proud tonight, Brendan kinda summed it up,not enough on the bench

More corruption from cheating uefa officials. 2 weeks in a row. Infact, just about eveh tound we have had you endure a biased ref

My thoughts too. Put another Treble in the bag whilst preparing thoroughly for next seasons Champions League. Only other thing worth our attention this season is humiliating Sevco a la Rangers. I want to hear the death throttle of der Hun filth as our foot squeases tighter and tighter upon their screaming throat.

  17. Make no mistake about this. If the Maeda incident happened in a title deciding game in Scotland, Celtic would challenge the non decision at the top level. IF Celtic want to be taken seriously in the champions league , we need to ask for the audio recording between ref , linesman and var.

Do nothing and the odd decisions will continue for the wee club that doesn’t seem to care.

Look, if we’d won in 94mins , I think Munich would have won in extra time. Their subs had a major impact and our subs didn’t. But we were robbed of a win and a chance to ride our luck for another 30min. Due to incompetency / cheating/ who cares attitude.

  18. Its been a long long time since i felt so gutted after a game.

Very proud but still absolutely gutted.

We went toe to toe with one of European football’s giants and we should have beaten them and put them out.

We do not deserve to be Brown Trout..

  19. Had to remind myself this morning that we didn’t lose last night’s game. That we were 1-0 up in the 94th minute against one of Europe’s top 3 clubs – a club that has made the CL final 11 times and won it six times. Only AC Milan and Real Madrid have won the trophy more than them.

No question that over the piece they were the better team but we had plenty of chances to create the biggest CL shock in years. With a bit more compusure in front of goal we could have won by a couple of goals. The refs did us no favours iwith a massive call in each game going against us.

Our defence was superb last night, Schlupp immense at LB. Kasper too. There experience of playing regularly at a higher level than the SPFL was telling.

To a man the team did us proud.

    Good morning CQN.

Grand day to be a Tim.

Hope the group get a day off today. They earned it.

Then back to work Thursday and go again.

    Two big games coming up.

I dontvexpect us to purr at Easter Road. Any kind of ugly win will do me.

Then Wednesday night at home to Aberdeen after which (barring cup replays) we’re (finally) into that one game per week stretch the players could do with.

Exciting and rewarding end to the season beckons.

    Great times.

  21. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Quite noticeable for me last night, the quality of the post match interviews by Callum and Kasper.

Could have been cloned from Brendan.

Callum, immediately after full time, was clearly gutted but spoke brilliantly as a person, a professional and a leader.

Kasper was rueful but measured and honest as ever. “I loved it and wanted another 30 minutes”.

    Both conveyed satisfaction and pride.

Small indicators perhaps but the culture in the group is a major plus.

Just looking at our season to date, by my reckoning we’ve played 42 competitive matches.

    4 + 26 + 10 + 2.

We had a bad second half home to Aberdeen.

Wee bit flat twice up in Tayside. (0-0, 3-3)

    A no show at Ibrox.

    A hiding in Dortmund.

    4½ games.

    Other than that?

90% of the time we’ve been well up for it.

    Remarkable consistency and durability.

    Stuff of Champions.

  22. I havent read back yet but…..I wasn’t too disappointed when Bayern scored in the 94th minute to knock us out of Europe.

I thought our starting Eleven were largely superb throughout the game, but I thought our Subs failed to make any real impact when they came on, but this morning is NOT a time to criticise any Celtic player too much after an HEROIC Effort by Celtic’s starting eleven.

I say that I wasn’t too disappointed when Bayern scored so late on to remove the thought of Extra Time, was ONLY BECAUSE I did NOT want to see Celtic being forced to play an Extra 30 minutes plus and then possibly lose a Goal(s) in that Extra Time due to bad luck or a Refs poor decision ?

I thought that CALMAC was superb, and that REO HATATE and ARNE ENGLES had probably their best games for Celtic so far…..along with the Defence playing very well throughout.

Daizen was maybe a wee bit quieter than I had hoped, but he still had TWO half chances to score in each half, as well as setting up KUHN for his Goal. JOTA did reasonably well, and we still have much to look forward to when he is fully Fit.

Bayern got a bit lucky with their Goal, but their player did well to close down CCV and his attempted clearance, and IF that had been DAIZEN or another Celtic player we would be praising the Celtic player for closing down and pressing ?

Overall, I was very impressed and proud of the Celtic players ( The Subs SHOULD have offered more ?), with both the Defence and Midfield excelling in their roles, and the Strikers also playing their part.

One last thought to cheer us all up this morning….EVERY HUN who placed a Bet on last nights game WILL have lost their cash as soon as Nicolas scored Celtics Goal….LOL.

The MAY have been tearing up their Betting Slips at half time when it was still 0 – 0 ?

MON the HOOPS….Lets MOLLY KATE this Hibs mob at the weekend.

“As one pundit quipped in-match, would keeping Kyogo have made the difference tonite ?”

Aye, and not a good one imo. We likely would have started with Maeda on the wing and Kyogo up front and he’s not the Kyogo of old who would have more chance of making the difference in such games. I much prefer Maeda in that CF role than Kyogo of the last 2 seasons.

Kyogo going and not being replaced for me has a bit of the feel of when Strachan tripped over the Hartley Robson midfield when Brown was out,

  24. Frustrating to see Feyenoord Benfica and Brugge all £20m richer today and another few co eff points better. All guaranteed CL next year if they do get through their domestic leagues.

We have to battle through to even qualify and lose out on £20m.

I know we had easier league games etc but we were as good as those and were growing into a real strong team. We could have taken our old adversaries Athletico.

We were lacking in subs. Ultimately Bernardo and James were missed. Perhaps Kyogo also. Maybe at the end a fresh Greg T or KT had he come.

  25. Good time to eat humble pie. Brendan Rodgers is the real deal and he is one of us.

Idah looking better and Engels looking world class.

Just the treble to look forward too now. Hail Hail

  26. Burnley78 on 19th February 2025 8:08 am

£20M richer? I thought it was £9M, what am I missing?

A weak bench didn’t help but I think the whole team looked tired so unless we could bring on 10 subs I think we likely would have lost in ET. Wish we could have found out though – ref had waved play on for the Maeda foul even before their CB hauled him back up. If that was me I would be in possum mode.

Schlupp has proven himself to be good enough for this level I think and given he can play CDM and LB, despite the likely high wage he may be worth it if we can effectively sign two players in one – BR may want a lighter first squad with more quality and a few utility players and have any projects we sign (Yang etc) be developed via loans and only brought into that group once developed.

It will be hard enough to hold onto our players after high profile performances like last night never mind get in a level of quality – Schlupp will have options that will pay way more than we could offer I reckon.

Hope Kuhn is okay – did anyone catch any comments from Brendan on his injury?
