BBC article shows “writing on the wall”

321

Chris McLaughlin’s article on BBC last night had a style to it: informed, pointing the way things will go, but revealing no sources.  Null and void has “pretty much been taken off the table as an option”.

“Playing out the season is what everyone wants, but there is a growing realisation that this scenario is looking increasingly unlikely.”  Whereas ending the league now “is the outcome that most are now expecting”.

“Rangers [sic.] might argue that Celtic could be caught. Few in the game believe that would happen in reality, and it may well be that inside Ibrox they are already aware that calling the season is more than likely.”

Even Ann Budge at Hearts, we are told, “is also a pragmatist and if the writing is on the wall, she will get the best deal she can and get on with it.”  Before Chris added “for Hearts fans the writing is very much on the wall.”

The article is caveated, I know as much as anyone that even impeccably sourced information can be invalidated by changing circumstances, but we do not see journalists who have access to impeccable sources, which Chris McLaughlin has, use phrases like “taken off the table”, “the outcome most are now expecting” and “writing is very much on the wall” without those sources being consulted.

  1. Big G why? Other countries are going through the same thing it is incompetence that someone in his position would get infected?

  2. I posted on Friday these matches were not going to be played.

This was direct from one of the most influential decision makers in Scottish football.

The decision has already been made , the wrong one imo, I’m gutted we don’t get to celebrate the actual winning of 9 in a row even if those games were behind closed doors.

Two incomplete seasons is a disaster for the game and fans, which is why this season should be completed.

    Next season has no chance.

Why do you say that? Either we award this season, and next season starts whenever or we delay this season until we can complete the games (even if that takes 6/12 months).

I don’t see why both seasons will be incomplete

  4. The Huddle,

I think this season has to be finished ,

then look and consider what can be done with the following season.

  5. The Huddle

Because the chances of a full season next year are nil, experts predict more lockdowns. All it takes is a month lockdown anytime between August and May and another season is ruined, incomplete or shortened. Much easier to play 8 games whenever that may be.

  6. Yeah, but next season won’t be started until they have a plan in place that can complete a full season.

Might mean the new season doesn’t start until January and finished December (we get summer football :O).

It might mean we lose 6/12 months of the calendar year but doesn’t mean we have to lose a season of football.

  7. Camusbhoy are other country’s doing better, no but let’s blame boris Johnstone, absolutely madness

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

Cancel international football, (which won’t happen),and the winter break, and we could have a full season next year.

  9. The Huddle

How do you plan next season when you don’t know how many games you’ll be able to play.

Summer football next season is a non starter, that’s something that has to be planned. You also have the Euros next summer.

  10. I know Boris won’t ever be popular on here, thats to be expected. There are millions in the UK that will be very worried one so prominent could succumb to this nasty and Indiscriminate virus.

I really hope he pulls through and he recognises EVERY frontline worker when we get through this and he has the Power.

Fitba aint gonnae be back for a while, looks like I wullnae get home for a while too.

Need to Keep the Faith in Our Lord, and hopefully, So many Finding Him.

  11. This Season finish it whenever.

Next Season play each other just twice. Let the promoted teams up.

Make it 14 for one Season.

Next season won’t start until they are confident they can complete it.

You might have 2019/20 season and then 2021/22 season. 20/21 doesn’t happen.

  13. Bada Bing

The most important word of your post is could.

That’s exactly my point , no one knows, which is why we should finish this season first.

Under the circumstances could, could quite easily be couldn’t.

  14. The Huddle

The way they are talking its more likely they would try and resume as soon as possible, money is the driver, clubs existence is at stake. When they return it may even be safe to do so but a second wave has been predicted.

So with all those uncertainties surely finishing this one makes even more sense ?

  15. !!Bada Bing!! on

Sid,I would play out this season whenever we start back, but UEFA’s cash cow is CL and EL,TV and sponsors will want a rebate for this season, and they will want clubs to populate next season’s competitions, which is why I think leagues will be called in the next few weeks.

    ——

I agree this season should be completed, whenever that happens , weeks or months time.

I don’t think they’ll start a new season until they know they can complete it.

  17. Bada Bing

I agree, I’ve heard it directly from the SFA vice president that leagues will be called shortly. The decision has already been made that this season is over.

My point is if next season is a right off also and uncompleted, then the fans are being robbed.

That would then be 2 seasons worth of money paid without a result on the field.

As usual fans are an afterthought, the lifeblood of the game.

  18. Big G

Boris is no more or less a thought than any the thousands who have died or fighting this virus.

A life is a life to me, everyone is precious.

I do understand posters frustrations however, he was directly responsible for more deaths than was necessary.

  19. Big G on 8th April 2020 12:14 am

Weird, but iam a Celtic supporter who wishes boris all the best am I the only one

Did you also not post that the current government were doing a good job?

    ——————–

I don’t think clubs will start a new season (take season money) unless they can complete it.

Fans are willing to write this season off (money wise) but the clubs would be up shit creek if they took season ticket money for a new season they knew couldn’t be completed.

  21. I find it weird that strangers wish well on others that cause harm, and death on other strangers.

  22. Sid the Chinese government pretended this could not be contacted person to person and the WHO agreed with them , but you want to blame boris , put your party politics behind you 👍

  23. Big G

You are so uniformed it’s scary.

Bodies were piling up in Italy who were 2 weeks in front of us, he could see what was happening yet was sold on a herd immunity policy. He is culpable.

Remember he was allowing a full UK football program to go ahead on 14th,15th March which would have been even more catastrophic.

  24. The Huddle

Celtic are already taking season ticket money for next season.

What’s the chances of seeing 19 home games next season?

    My opinion is nil, yours?

    ———-

Clubs will take in the money now but if they know the season can’t be completed then they open themselves up to be sued for selling a false product. They will refund the money or put in place a full season.

How they deliver a full season, is still to be decided, but they won’t start it unless they have something in place.

I hope so this is a guy who put himself out there a long time ago

    ——-

This is a guy that voted against a wage increase for nurses then went shaking hands with them same nurses working to fight a killer virus

  27. The Huddle

Get what your saying but they can put in place whatever they think.

The circumstances and the virus will dictate not the football authorities, that’s the reality.

Refunds would surely have to be at least offered for a second uncompleted season.

  28. Cut the season in half, what is it now 38 games?? 9 home 9 away refund half the money, is my math(s) good :O@)

  29. Players getting paid half a years wages, suddenly their obscene pay is less obscene.

Though Celtic are such slow starters we’d have to up our game.
