BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

How about you go back to sleep and gie us awe peace??

This is, Nice To Everybody Saturday.

    A kilted klown kult.

    Imagine that!

    Stay good Philbhoy. 🍻 🍷 ☺

  2. So to follow my own advice, I’ll contribute something more.

I am not too bothered by the Scottish Cup this year but the players and manager will feel differently. They have to win 3 games to land the cup. Away to United might be the hardest hurdle because it is the only one left at an away ground.

We should have too much for them but they are not a Park The Bus Team and will have a go. I hope Callum is not in the DM role

When you post your thoughts on the redevelopment of the Main Stand, you frequently mention having 10000 seats ‘up in the attic for high days and holidays’. I’m not certain what you mean by this but My take is that it will be a top tier with permanent seating but used only for Europe, Glasgow derbies, concerts etc. Is this the case? I think having an attic with that capacity would be quite a huge area bearing in mind that IIRC our main stand currently holds 8500 and the wings bring it up to about 12000.

Also the £80m to be raised by bonds. What sort of interest do you think investors might expect in return? Would they be sold to the general public as well as to our supporters? Do you have any thoughts on how long the bonds would run?

  4. If anyone is interested thats me finished the census.

I would probaby have got it done a lot faster if i didnt keep getting interuppted on here.

    Brilliant!

Away to put some beer glasses in the freezer.

    Well the sun is out!

    See yeez!

  6. Nice idea as it is, just can’t see the Main Stand being upgraded significantly anytime soon. It took a change of ownership 28 years ago to get 3/4 of the stadium demolished and rebuilt.

Dermot Desmond can’t be bothered to attend the annual AGM, so I hardly think the 51 year old main stand even enters his thoughts.

Would certainly like to see what architects and engineers could do if they had £100m to play with.

    SS

Not done it yet but when I do, I’ll pick the first answer irrespective of the question😂😂😂

  8. The rocky road to? God knows where. I’ve often thought there could be a top section above the main stand only opened for larger games and closed with digital adverts and a main screen for the ST’s in the North Stand. Nowadays I think that’s a fairly easy thing to design, though I’m far from being an expert. And another great reason would b the modernization of the main stand apart from the frontage which is listed, there must be a way round that too. Money wise? I haven’t a scooby doo but I’m sure plenty folk on here have! por cierto.

  9. SFTB,

I disagree with your assessment of the blog.

The blog like everything else is navigating through unprecedented times, indeed dark times.

There is war on our continent and a possibility of escalation . Potentially WW3 looms.

The biggest refugee crisis on our continent in a generation ; since the dark days of fascism.

CQN, Celtic and Football is not immune to current events.

Uncertainty kills investment. Will there be implications for all of Football from the Chelsea situation. ?

The blog is a diverse blog and has reacted to current events.

Maybe some of us have overstepped the mark on occasion. ( Please refer to earlier post )

Celtic is sooo important to all of us on here. For so many reasons, but do the infamous words of Bill Shankly really resonate.

    HH to all.

The only thing more boring than a boring post is a post that complains about a boring post but adds nothing new to the blog

Meanwhile we on this once lively site are edging ever closer to the values of the Scottish Defence League.

It’s Paul site but it’s not on a good path at the moment

One Celtic with a league to win

And they are a touch nervous

  11. English is a jumped up sensationalising tabloidesque, lazy and many would say bigoted wee journalist.

I do worry that the intimations of many about JHB and his loyalties are maybe accurate given his defence of this clown.

English and his pre season article about the 2 rangers teams which could win the league will be right up there with the works of Gallagher and Traynor in years to come as the type of succulent lamb (or tofu) many have come to know and despise about the BBC and the Scottish media.

Horrible little odious piece of pond life is how my old Latin teacher would describe him.

  12. You have a string interest

    ——————————

    WTF is a string interest?

    Should of course be ‘strong’.

    Memo to self.

    Check posts before sending!

  13. Loved the 2 press conferences yesterday.

Hoping we can win Monday night, get to the semi final, draw the Huns in that and can focus on the next 3 league games.

3 Celtic v Rangers games in 5 weeks from April 3rd when that mob will also possibly have 2 European midweek games to distract will suit us just fine.

  14. Cricket / Rugby and some decent Football today to keep us occupied.

10k will be on the treadmill for me today methinks.

    Come on Ireland !!! 🏉 🇮🇪

  15. Maybe I should post this and maybe I should not. I seriously hope I’m not overstepping the mark.

However if you think that the Census is intrusive and taxing, you should see what Scottish school children have been asked to fill out.

  16. CaddingtonCommon on

I remember when I was a lad growing up in Lanarkshire and watching the news on BBC.

In those days it was the only medium available other than the press.

It was the bye word for honesty and impartiality. Now it has developed into an out of control leviathan. In my early days the newsreader simply read the script. Now the offer their opinions without editorial control in order boost their standing. Time to rein them in and let the paying public be the sole judge of the news broadcast.

    Hail Hail

    Stay Safe

  17. I wrote about the main stand quite a few times ,in all honesty it needs seen to ,if fans on here have a season ticket for it ,do you pay top dollar ,could you give me an assessment of it on facilities ,it’s condition etc ,and most importantly does it need upgraded.

  18. Gary Hooper scores for Wellington in losing effort today.

Barry Bannon still banging them in for Wednesday. Too late now, but he was a player I thought would do well at Celtic when he was younger.

  19. Does the census have any questions about your experiences of anal sex?

Or is it only school weans that get asked that?

  20. Will probably see Kilmarnock and their less than shag carpet return to the SPL next season. Thankfully, we will not see Hamilton.

  21. Of course, if the usual odd squad of remarkable postings are encouraged by the vacuous – ” but it’s a bwog open tae aw!” ignoring that it’s a Celtic forum first an’ foremost ( the clue is in the name) then the sleekit an’ snyde will be facilitated to pop up and poop on This Dear Green Place – the horrible, the hurtin’ and the hun will be able to break-up the usual play of this special place just as sleekitly as Boaby Midden does to impede a Celtic forwards advance on goal.

I’m a little bemused as to why our genial host has not yet done more to cap the intrusive currant(s) – a juvenile grasp of the technology allows the determined hydra-heidit nugget post at will…..its objective imo to discourage active engagement or lower this place to the level of the smaller WhatsApp type sites………

    Don’t help thum.

  22. All sorts of factors to be taken into consideration in the run in. Eight league games for Celtic negotiate and one, possibly two Cup games (NB the Scottish Cup Final takes place after the League has been decided so I won’t count it as having an effect on the tiredness of our players – if we reach the Cup Final.

Our rivals have the same plus an away Europa League game in Belgrade.

Dilemmas: Do we want Dundee to knock them out of the Cup tomorrow giving them fewer games if we continue in the Cup.

Do we want them to progress in the Europa League? If they are eliminated on Thursday (highly unlikely) it would surely massively damage their morale but it would mean they could concentrate on the League.

If they progress on Thursday it would give them two extra massive games to think about and affect their ability to concentrate on the League. The downside for us is that they would rake in a lot of money. I think a defeat would demoralise them as their hopes of success in the Europa are growing but if they progress again then their morale would spiral and they would rake in more money.

    1. So the dilemma essentially is hope that they get gubbed in the Scottish Cup and Europa and accept a shootout for the league between them and ourselves.

    2. Hope that they reach the SC semi final to give them an extra game to occupy them.

    3. Hope that they continue in the EL to occupy them (but not to reach the Final)

I think Option 1 is preferable.

  23. TIMBHOY163

The facilities in the main stand are shocking.

I used to be in the front stand and I had to go into the away area in the Lisbon Lions stand to use a disabled toilet .

  24. Fort William get their third point in 25 games. They have a goal difference of minus 87.

  25. Vale of Leithen with an amazing goal difference of minus 139. Who would be their goalie?

  26. BANKIEBHOY1 and BADABING

Agree wholeheartedly and like Paul I use the BBC a lot. Mentioned on these pages that it such a shame (stronger words are available) that the Scottish side is almost unreadable.

75 degrees last Saturday, 32 today. It’s the St Particks’ day parade at the end of my street, not the best or temps but beautiful skies.

  27. Tom McLaughlin on

    TIMBHOY163

I was a ST holder in the front stand up until about 3 years ago when we negotiated a transfer to the Jock Stein stand lower which was slightly cheaper.

The toilet & catering facilities behind the main stand – front and rear – are a disgrace with lack of space to move around as the area is far too narrow.

The old wooden structure is falling apart in places and don’t get me started on the restricted views because of the pillars either side of the stand. Embarrassing.

There is a disabled supporter on our supporters bus who sits in the front row of the main stand lower west which is one of the designated disabled sections. During the recent Rangers game, his seat was accidentally damaged by celebrating fans, which resulted in the back of his seat being destroyed.

Ok that happens. But what shouldn’t happen is, he has attended 4 home games since and on each occasion, his seat was still minus a back and he had to be moved. That despite it being reported (allegedly) by the stewards who have had to relocate him.

Get them papped out everything , concentrate on what we do ,and if we do it well, it should be enough…imo.

After careful consideration that’s my position too. When in doubt I always go back to basics – get them papped out of everything. 🤣🤣🤣
