BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

    He loathes his quotes in 2012 coming back to him in respect of the toileting of rfc.it highlight every aspect of what he is -:and its not a reporter jimdom.

    The digital age proved its value in nailing him as a biased and bigoted reporter,and all for the herald,the toilet roll that had 2 Hugh Adams obituaries.

     

     

    Gerry was a Celtic man,maybe controversial at times in

     

    his opinions,as a Celt you can put them to one side,his intent can be wrong,just gerrit t flook,thats as a Celt.

     

    Was never really a fan of his reporting,or emdi else.made up my own mind

     

     

    But I would take mc nee over the ex new club pr guy any time.

    I remember him appearing at Celtic Park and singing it on the pitch. He hadn’t known that Celtic fans sang the song until Pat Jennings told him. Apparently, our adopting the song gave it a major boost in sales and promoted it to a much wider audience.

     

     

    A beautiful song. May he Rest In Peace.

    Way back in the day I always regarded Gerry McNee as the poor man’s James Traynor. Based solely on the quality of their output in print journalism.

     

    Some of the stuff Traynor produced for The Glasgow Herald was outstanding. Particularly his annual jaunt to cover Wimbledon in the 70’s. Of course he accepted the blue pound in his later years.

     

    McNee was just a run of the mill red topper, a bit like Shug Keevins today. McNee’s Celtic history book was okay, but nothing special. Can’t really understand why anyone would put Gerry McNee on such a high pedestal.

    Traynor was excellent at the Herald, and he also helped, McNee, Keevins, Cooney, McCarra, and Davie Provan, in the early 90’s to keep the seriousness of the looming Celtic situation in the front of the headlines to try to wake supporters up about the need for a new board, whilst 99% of Scottish media were on their knees in front of, David Murray’s table.

     

    All of these names mentioned did a turn for the (( Rebel Consortium )) group, hoping to wrestle Celtic to safety, but all of these folk who knew what had to be done to save Celtic, but when McCann got control, he immediately stabbed the (( Rebel Consortium )) in the back, playing, my bat my ball, type of, wee man syndrome, games, and instead of a new all singing, all dancing era, McCann created a bitter period of infighting, and betrayed his promise tobgive Celtic to the fans.

     

    In one of the books covering the, Rebel takeover, there’s a quote in there, that went something like…

     

     

    “We couldn’t have done this without the help of, Gerald McNee.”

     

     

    I can’t recall the name of the book, ” The Rebels Have Won” I think it was.

     

    Traynor was a superb journalist, then he took the soup.

     

    Gerald McNee didn’t take any flavor of soup, from anyone.

    With regard to the overnight poster, I didn’t read any of his posts as I was safely tucked up in bed. With regard to PTB, I know what to expect so I can assure you that I do have a scroll facility on my iPad. However, as I was scrolling by one of his very lengthy posts earlier, the name Gerald McNee kept leaping out at me. Can’t stand the man so I had to debunk Kev Jungle’s, sorry Park The Bus’s post. Like I had to do several times about 10 years ago. However, PTB only came on after I made my comment to you.

     

     

    You’re Census posts could have stopped after the first one and your point would have been well made but you continued to Labour the point with the next 16 posts. Another two posters told you to give it a rest as well.

    Can we get our Blog back. This one dear Green place is now rapidly descending into something almost unrecognisable to THE top Celtic discussion / blog that it was some years ago.

     

    We have hunterlopers who now try to cause as much carnage and infighting as possible…a bit like their own clubs…old and new…..I’m all for debating about a wide variety of subjects…but some of the subjects brought to the blog by this or these individual(s) should have no place in this once great CQN.
