BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

The one thing this blog lacks is some detailed information on the absurdities of the current Scottish Census.

    Any volunteers?

Hideous booing and total lack of class from the Engerland fans at Twickenham today.

I thought the same. Was quite surprised by it.

Or is it only school weans that get asked that?

Nawe, Stivs just dangled the innocuous questions as bait, he won’t go near the sewer flavoured questions as it’ll show up himself, and the kilted klown klan who voted for the swing out sister party.

  5. The Hertz game has even disappeared from the Hesgoal menu bar. Never seen that happen before.

    Bizarre.

  6. Bobby Madhun has only awarded 4 fouls to each team so far. He can let play flow when he wants to.

  7. Kingsley very good at the free kicks..Think Saints have ran their race.Hope not, but, think so.

    They booed every Ireland penalty.

They were obviously pee’d off at the early sending off.

Cheers for the Fort William goals against column reminder earlier, recall a few years ago catching a game up there, the unbridled joy at pulling a goal back,to 1-6 was palpable.:-)

Bare bones on my thoughts for the new main stand.

    Lower tier = 55 rows .

Cantilever tier / padded seat = 12 rows.

Three levels of lounges / executive boxes.

    Cantilever tier / the Gods = 8 rows’ish.

    Attic = 40 / 44 rows behind the Gods — 30m / 33m deep.

Can be curtained off if not in use.

Corners — safe standing seats / no restricted vision seats.

Roof held up by simple bean and post arrangement.

Given the depth of the seating areas — probably need two 170M span beams.

The new Liverpool main stand gets by with one but not quite as deep.

Bonds — Mix of 10 year fixed and 20 year RPI bonds.

Plus anything exotic that can be thought of.

Fixed bonds can be reissued in time / rolled over.

    Fixed rates = 3% / 4% / 5%.

    3% = base.

4% = we win the league.

5% = we make the CL group stages.

Extra matchday revenue = £10mill / poss £15ill with good marketing.

I have put out more detail in the past but I have lost it.

I remember when I was a lad growing up in Lanarkshire and watching the news on BBC.

In those days it was the only medium available other than the press.

It was the bye word for honesty and impartiality. Now it has developed into an out of control leviathan…

    ————

Not sure if we’re same vintage, but that ‘by word’ reputation was how the Beeb purposely PR positioned itself; some paragon of broadcasting virtue etc. Just as Great Britain loved its self-generated international image as a civilising force (diminishing the role that ‘force’ played in empire building).

But then again, the Beeb has been at the centre of General Strike, 80s Miners Strike, Jimmy Savile, Martin Bashir reporting controversies….

As a teenager, I always had the sense BBC reports condemned the RA harder in news of the troubles than the opposing unionist terrorists – but mibby it was only a feeling rooted in my own religio-political bias??

    ——–

Anyways. Great fun attending the top table clash in a sun-soaked Melb last night. An end to end 2-2 draw.

Spotted a young lad with a Tic strip on so at halftime went up and said hello to him and his girlie; been in Melb a week on a 1-year visa. They were sitting supping a beer in the main stand, pinching themselves how good life is. Then, a Dundee Utd fan heard my voice and we had a good-natured chat about upcoming cup tie prospects.

    Life’s good. HH

Thanks for the response and putting some detail on your earlier post. I’ll now try to paint a picture of it in my head. I would love to see the Main Stand redeveloped imaginatively and not in a cheap and cheerful way. I realise that money would also have to be raised in an imaginative way and bonds seem to be a good idea.

I think the problem might be getting a sufficient number of investors to part with their cash, particularly in Scotland for a project that would see Celtic benefit.

However, I would dearly love to see a spectacular completion of Celtic Park in the next few years. I’m not getting any younger. 🤣
