BBC need to fortify or shut the doors

1483

It doesn’t really matter to me how other people write their own history.  If Queens Park claim to be the same Club as the Queen of Clubs, they are welcome to, as long as they respectfully allow me to express scepticism.  Fortunately, Queens Park’s business model is not dependent on making such an outlandish claim.

A whole lot of nonsense has been written on the subject of a recently liquidated football club, “it was the holding company that was liquidated”, when it wasn’t actually a holding company, and then we have claims about advice from a “panel of the London Stock Exchange”, which was quickly withdrawn.

We are asked to believe that a football club cannot go out of business.  It’s an interesting thought, not one I subscribe to, but interesting nonetheless.  If you are happy with this belief, fair play to you, it doesn’t matter what anyone else believes.

I’ve met Jim Spence.  He’s a guy who emerged from the Dundee Untied fanzine world and established a reputable career in the game.  His affinity for United has never been hidden, nor should it be.  United, as all clubs, have gone through periods of turmoil but Jim has called things as he has seen them, with his own club, and with others.

This week Jim made a comment about a football club which went into liquidation.  It was more tempered than comments made by a former manager and director of the liquidated club, by the chief executive of its successor club, by all the contemporary newspaper coverage, and by the successor club’s current head of PR.  Despite this, Jim has been on the receiving end of a sustained campaign by the thought police.

Jim may privately think what those at the successor club once said, but if he also wants to express those thoughts, the consequences can be acute.

He’s not alone.  I know others in the media who have told me straight that they are not prepared to touch the Newco/Sameco subject, the resultant hassle is not what they got into journalism for.

Charlotte Fakes has given us a glimpse into how powerful people can manipulate and control Scotland.  It has given reason to pause ahead of next year’s big decisions.  The BBC and only the BBC are strong enough to stand up against bullying, you can forget the commercial media for one simple reason, this subject is the equivalent of commercial self-harm.

It wouldn’t seem like the weekend without Rangers International writing about going legal on someone or other, although I suspect they’ll be content having played to the gallery with this one and not trouble the BBC, but questions remain for the BBC, no matter what happens next.

I consume enormous volumes of BBC output every month, it is my first port of call for news, and often my last.  It is one of the best aspects of British life, but if it can be intimidated like the commercial media, there is no point in it existing in the first place.

Fortify your journalists or shut the doors.

What is a Deed of Novation?

In: Deeds and Ownership [Edit categories]

    Answer:

A Deed of Novation is used where one party transfers its rights and obligations under a contract to another party. A novation usually happens when the seller of a business transfers the contracts with his customers to the buyer. The consent of all three parties – the transferee, the transferor and the other contracting party – is required to effect the novation.

I’ve copied the above from WikiAnswers. If the answer is accurate, then it would seem that there must have been at least 3 copies of the original deed, one for Sevco Scotland, one for D&P, and one for Sevco588. And that excludes solicitors’ copies. So to me it beggars belief that the original deed couldn’t be found. To me that means that there was no deed of novation. Which is really good news for Craig Whyte, whose c;laim that the switch of the acquisition to Sevco Scotland was invalid is suddenly looking pretty strong.

And shouldn’t a deed be properly witnessed to be valid? I’ve always thought so, but maybe some legal expert can help on that one.

My father never went to a Huns game in his life, one of my brothers is to date the same. My other brother would never step foot in Ibrox. I’d go anywhere to see the Celtic. Given the opportunity I’d be there; and especially so against the huns. Not for bigoted or hateful reasons, just so I could watch my team beat our biggest rivals.

Remember one thing Ernie, to date I think I’m the only Tim on here that has said I would have the huns back. (with caveats of course).

Jim Spence will not be sacked over this…he is extremely well liked by his colleagues at PQ…he is great company and is straight as an arrow…unfortunately, the same cannot be said about some of his desk mates…they will not rock the boat lest they fall out of their ‘comfort zone’ seats…it’s one thing the corporation being banned from bigotbrox, another if an individual has the door closed on him…he will be made to feel like an outcast and a leper, unlike Keevins at CP who seems to enjoy and makes a meal of his ban…anyway, standing up for Jim Spence…

Had look at something called “The Surname Database” and found this:

“Recorded in several spellings including Monaghan, Monahan, Minihan, sometimes as Minogue and Monk, but more correctly O’Monahan, this is an Irish surname of great antiquity. It derives from the pre 10th century Gaelic word ‘manachain’ meaning a monk, and hence the use of the English spelling and surname of Monk from time to time.”

Would never have occurred to me.

    ……………………………………………………..

It wouldn’t have occured to me but speaking to a kinswoman of yours the fact/theory? was pointed out by her. Although it is by no means universally accepted.

Edward McLysart in “More Irish Families”, 1960 at Page 180 comments:

“The name [Minogue] belongs primarily to East Clare. The townland Ballyminogue in the parish of Tuamgraney marks the centre of its present location. It is to be found also on the other side of Lough Derg, in the Barony of Lower Ormond, where several families were resident when the 1659 Census was taken.

The Bishop of Leighlin who died in 1050, Cierihen O’ Muineoc, described in “The Annals of Loch Ce” as a “Tower of the Piety of Erin”, was perhaps of this sept, though Leighlin is far from Clare, but nearer home was Walter O’ Mynok, as he is called in the record of a trial in 1313, acquitted of a charge of stealing cattle near Limerick.

In modern Irish the name is O’Muineog. O’Muineog according to Woulfe, is a diminutive of Manach, a monk, and this derivation, though not generally accepted, would seem to be corroborated by the fact that Monaghan, and Mannix, both similarly derived, are recorded by Matheson as synonyms of Minogue. However from my own intimate knowledge of the district from which they are reported I would say that Monaghan is very rare if not unknown in East Clare. I know of just one Mannix.

In Offaly, O’Muineog is anglicised Minnock and as such is found there in small numbers today.”

So there you have the Minogue/Monaghan position according to McLysacht who was Chairman of the Irish Manuscript Committee and formerly Chief Herald of Ireland.

Wonder if he would sign my petition?

The SFA are a disgrace in relation to how they dealt with the whole process of Rangers administration then into Liquidation, We all know why! no further explanations required, EUFA are hiding behind this as a matter entirely for the national association to sort out, as you say it is a cowardly cop out, EUFA know all there is to know in reference to the Govanites, i agree completely they should and need to step in to resolve some important issues, unfortunately there is no mechanism to make them rule honestly and comprehensively.

The reality of the situation is everyone is becoming fed up with these dimwits – who have no capacity for learning from previous mistakes. They act aggressively because they think that will change the facts. It’s like when someone losing a debate starts shouting because they think that will make a difference. It doesn’t.

These are the same people who defended Craig Whyte and Charles Green with when the rest of us could see they were shysters – and then turned against them when it was too late to do anything about it.

Yet they don’t hound Myth – the man who is on record as saying he “wishes the new club well.” The non-executive director who didn’t bother turning up to meetings.

Jim Spence has nothing to worry about here. Nothing at all.

  23. A Stor Mo Chroi on

    TBJ:

The way they (the huns) see it, is they got to ditch all their toxic debt and they are working their way back up the leagues (leagues they should never have been allowed to be playing in yet) and doing so with the second most expensive squad in Scotland. (Ignore for the moment their cash flow problems, the street huns do). The stupidity of the huns is empirical in how they mock your zombie walk by doing their own zombie walk parody (I could link them doing it but I just can’t be fecked digging it out.

The average huns problem is he just wants to support his team; I have empathy with that. Where I get my own nose out of joint, well that is the lengths that the authorities and the media will whore themselves to, to accommodate a club, and its bastard child, that was/is, not playing by the rules, countered by the deafening silence of a nation.

So if the Celtic Football Club, in silence and lack of protest, condone what is going on, why would any board loving Celtic Supporter not wish to tag along with the official, ‘look the other way’ doctrine of the Club?

Now happy clappers, besides me, ought to take a wee moment or two, to think about that, before they boycott the next Celtic v The Rangers game.

I for one would be very p’d off if the tickets / programs stated Celtic FC V Rangers FC rather than the correct Celtic FC V THE Rangers FC. I am sure I wouldn’t be alone in this either. For good measure i’d be tempted to put the establishment dates of the clubs along side their names Celtic FC est 1888 V The Rangers FC est 2012.

  30. I have some sad news to relate today.

My brother, Miki67, passed away earlier this week (on Tuesday); it was a comfort that this happened peacefully, at home (he had struggled for a long time against cancer, and been in and out of hospital over the past few months). He leaves behind his wonderful wife Viv, and a community of friends who have been a great support during this difficult time.

Part of that community is certainly the Celtic family, and CQN. I know there are a few people on here who got to know Michael well. He had a lot of fun posting on here and I know he enjoyed debating on any number of topics over time. He also managed to make it along to a good few games in Paradise, always enjoyed immensely (we won every time !)

The funeral arrangements have just been confirmed; both the service, and a gathering afterwards, are open to all who wish to attend. The service is at Wimborne Woodland Burials, on Monday 16th September at 12pm, and then gathering at The Horns Inn afterwards (a short walk from the grounds), from around 1pm onwards.

I would also like to mention the support provided by the NHS, and the associated care groups involved, most notably Macmillan Cancer Support. They are all truly wonderful people who give so much, and made Michael as comfortable as possible, enabling him to be fully cared for, and supported, at home.

If anyone would like to send a separate message then I understand you can obtain my email address from Paul67. (assume that’s OK Paul).

    All the best,
