BBC turn tanks on our hero Craig

768

BBC investigative journalist, Mark Daly, has shown remarkable fortitude in pursuing Craig Whyte, but it’s clear to any unbiased observer that our hero is totally innocent of the serious allegation levelled at him.  Yesterday, Reporting Scotland suggested Whyte may have committed perjury in the witness box at Glasgow Sheriff Court in December last year in a case involving the supply of roofing materials.

Craig handled the second question on his disqualification as a company director, “You can’t remember why you were banned for seven years?” pitch perfectly.

He said, “Well, I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong.”

This was a good answer, a very good answer.  Saying something wrong in open court is not what our man wants to do.

It was the third question that those pesky BBC types have tried to make trouble over: “Was it anything to do with the treatment of creditors?”

To which Craig replied, “No.”

One insignificant, two-letter, word that people are trying to build into something more than it is.  If only he’d kept to the simple, “I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong” reply, none of this perjury nonsense would be raised.

Now we have the messy business of a sheriff, currently deliberating the roofing materials case based on the evidence presented, being interrupted by all this rubbish.  Have you any idea how complicated it becomes for a sheriff to discharge his duties when perjury is publicly being alleged (incorrectly, I may add) before he has even reached his verdict?  He’s left in a very difficult position and will not be pleased.

Last night Craig’s spokesman gave you the truth, saying the BBCs latest hatchet job was “a variation on what the BBC already alleged in a documentary riddled with inaccuracies and falsehoods”.

The BBC also published extracts of a written judgement of a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice Companies Court from 2000 which saw Craig’s seven year ban imposed after he put a company into liquidation.

Inaccuracies and falsehoods – and the guy, fair-minded that he is, didn’t even grab the opportunity to have another day in court, this time against the broadcaster.  I’d love to see you take them on, Craig.  Keep up the good work.

Finally, Celtic fan, Billy Connolly, has been in the news recently so I thought we would give a spin to one of his early works. Apologies for the mild use of colourful language. Firm apologies to Strathclyde Police, who are the subject of some fun here but who I hold in the highest esteem (I’m serious at this part), and just for the record, the following song is a gentle poke at the authorities honesty in court and in no way related to persons mentioned anywhere on Celtic Quick News.

Scottish football has a choice. Either stuck with status quo – a two horse race, TV monies divided unevenly, a national team with little prospect of qualifying for any tournaments and the slow death of our game which will be accelerated because cheating (if it involves Rangers) is allowed to go unpunished.

Alternatively, the correct action against any newco, as previously established through clubs like Gretna, Clydebank and Airdrieonians, gives Scottish football the opportunity to revolutionise the game.

If the TV deal goes it will not hurt the ‘other clubs’ that much, because as things stand 99% of Sky matches involve Celtic and Rangers, 95% of ESPN matches involve Celtic and Rangers, while I’d say 98% of BBC Scotland’s televised output involves Rangers. Just to clarify, I haven’t missed our club off the last example.

How any of this, as it stands benefits Scottish football – I’m not quite sure. We can live without the TV deals that are currently in place. They are a sham.

Life without Rangers will take a bit of adjusting to and Celtic will dominate in the short-term (we have enjoyed that before when Rangers were here) but in the long-term the game will become more competitive and as a result gates will increase – oh, and the national team will benefit too boot.

  4. Does anyone know if the FTT decision would still be delivered (whether published or not) were our wishes to come true and Rangers were liquidated soon? Would the fact that the defendant would be no more / deceased / an ex-football club mean that the judges would be instructed to abandon their efforts?

What if the unthinkable happens and Rangers not only ceases to exist, but for whatever reason the New Rangers that will surely arise cannot secure the use of Ibrox (perhaps because the land turns out to be more valuable as a new Lidl or whatever)?

I hope we will remember that Celtic was founded on the concept of charity, of helping those who are unable to help themselves.

  8. Just a wee bit of information I was putting together to argue the case against allowing The Shame back into the SPL as most of the redtops are trying so hard to do.

They constantly mention the fact that Scottish football cannot survive without them but are completely miss the point that they have tried to con the exchequer out of £45,000,000.

So when they next try this just remember that this sum of cash they owe would afford the government one of these groups of specialists.

    – 2,500 Soliders salaries for 1 year

    – 1,800 Polcemens salaries for 1 year

    – 1,500 Midwives salaries for 1 year

    – 750 Doctors salries for 1 year

Or to put it another way some of this essential vehicles ..

    – 1,000 Interceptor police cars

    – 750 Ambulances

    – 600 Fire engines

    – 200 Armoured personnel carriers

    – 60 Challenger 2 main battle tanks

And finally some life saving equipment..

    – 22,000 Dialysis machines

    – 77 High dependancy units running costs for 1 year

    – 45 MRI Scanners

These facts and these facts alone should ensure that The Shame never gain entry and avoid the punishment that they are rightly deserve.

They are a truly a disgusting bunch and deserve every punishment that they are due.

The rangers away support is NOT a life support for this league!

    Rugby park holds over 18,000

Rankers lost there in November and the attendance was 9,500

If they were playing Ayr on league duty twice a season once at home once away they would have 18,000 at rugby park !

Their team would no longer be relegation battlers!

Makes a whole lot of sense to me!

  14. philvisreturns_2 on

weeminger – That might be embarrassing for New Rangers though.

Seeing as they only had 16,000 fans turn out to see them in the latter stages of the Scottish Cup, at a time when they are still only a point behind the league leaders in the SPL, I’m not sure they would be able to fill Firhill when they’re playing as Rangers Reunited in the Third Division. Looks like you put quite a bit or work into that.

Now, while I certainly do agree with the sentiments, I think the actual figures themselves need to be looked at more closely.

45M – does that include the fines? If so, if they had they paid their taxes, they wouldnt have to pay this.

Also, you have put 45M into what it could pay for 1 year. But the dodge has been over circa 10 years, so we would be discussing 4-5M, (if it doesnt include fines), each year.

Dont intend to put it down, would just rather see an accurate set of figures, that we can use in arguments, that cant be easily dismissed, if you know what I mean.

Ah, there’s this perception that the tax they dodged was £24m, which whilst technically correct, only provides part of the picture.

You see, the orcs paid c£49m out to employees via an EBT during the period being discussed. Based on the assumption that the employees would generally like to retain the same net pay, the orcs would have had to pay around £95m, which would then include deductions of £45m or thereabouts, leaving the employees with their very same ‘take-home’ pay.

Essentially, if the orcs are indeed liable to pay £45m to Her Maj, it will be no more and no less than they would have had to pay out in order to ensure the same players went up those (cracked) marble stairs.

  26. Legal action of any kind is expensive, particularly those that seek to win a defamation argument.

The onus of proof lies with the person or organisation making the allegations. They have to prove what they have said is true.

So if you feel you have been defamed, you generally take action quickly – if what is said isn’t true in the slightest, then all it takes is a quick bit of lawyer jiggery-pokery to get an out-of-court settlement, and thereby avoid hefty legal fees after a possibly prolonged court hearing.
