BBC turn tanks on our hero Craig

768

BBC investigative journalist, Mark Daly, has shown remarkable fortitude in pursuing Craig Whyte, but it’s clear to any unbiased observer that our hero is totally innocent of the serious allegation levelled at him.  Yesterday, Reporting Scotland suggested Whyte may have committed perjury in the witness box at Glasgow Sheriff Court in December last year in a case involving the supply of roofing materials.

Craig handled the second question on his disqualification as a company director, “You can’t remember why you were banned for seven years?” pitch perfectly.

He said, “Well, I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong.”

This was a good answer, a very good answer.  Saying something wrong in open court is not what our man wants to do.

It was the third question that those pesky BBC types have tried to make trouble over: “Was it anything to do with the treatment of creditors?”

To which Craig replied, “No.”

One insignificant, two-letter, word that people are trying to build into something more than it is.  If only he’d kept to the simple, “I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong” reply, none of this perjury nonsense would be raised.

Now we have the messy business of a sheriff, currently deliberating the roofing materials case based on the evidence presented, being interrupted by all this rubbish.  Have you any idea how complicated it becomes for a sheriff to discharge his duties when perjury is publicly being alleged (incorrectly, I may add) before he has even reached his verdict?  He’s left in a very difficult position and will not be pleased.

Last night Craig’s spokesman gave you the truth, saying the BBCs latest hatchet job was “a variation on what the BBC already alleged in a documentary riddled with inaccuracies and falsehoods”.

The BBC also published extracts of a written judgement of a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice Companies Court from 2000 which saw Craig’s seven year ban imposed after he put a company into liquidation.

Inaccuracies and falsehoods – and the guy, fair-minded that he is, didn’t even grab the opportunity to have another day in court, this time against the broadcaster.  I’d love to see you take them on, Craig.  Keep up the good work.

Finally, Celtic fan, Billy Connolly, has been in the news recently so I thought we would give a spin to one of his early works. Apologies for the mild use of colourful language. Firm apologies to Strathclyde Police, who are the subject of some fun here but who I hold in the highest esteem (I’m serious at this part), and just for the record, the following song is a gentle poke at the authorities honesty in court and in no way related to persons mentioned anywhere on Celtic Quick News.

The above is the entire honours list of Airdrie United. Formed 10 years ago.7 lines of history after 10 years as the newco Airdrie United. I find it sad that any club should have such a miserable history.. Don’t suppose there will ever be another club in Scotland will have such a miserable CV? Imagine asking the fans of such a club – “what has your team ever won”? The response? Nothing. Nothing at all? No European cup? No Scottish cup? No Glasgow cup? Nothing.

Winger David Templeton (groin) is a doubt, left-back Danny Grainger (groin) could be in contention, while striker Kevin Kyle (hip) remains a long-term absentee.

Anyways, more good news, as Subbuteo is scheduled to make a comeback next month.

THe greatest ever football game [and as far as I kno, one which takes a strictly neutral stance on Catholicism] is being re-launched in March.

New figures are promised [ although these will not be as good as the ole, handpainted heavy plastic ones].

No news if the ‘corner kick’ figure, a giant mutant capable of launching the ball with Lee Nayloresque accuracy into the cat’s dinner, will be making a comeback.

And no word yet on the return of team #25

  6. I want Craig Whyte/White to stay in control of Rankers as long as possible, he’s doing a great job!

But it is easy to see why the MSM are circling the wagons around him, he won’t talk to them!!! He talks to his follow followers through Rankers Media only.( Have we not been asking our board/management to do the same???)

The truth is ole Boggle eyes has only been at the helm for less than a year or to put in context since SDM took charge many blue moonbeams ago, less than 5% of the time Rangers have operated fraudulently.

Of course the MBB is steering them to oblivion but it was akin to being handed the controls of the Titanic moments before disaster and being told to divert it by using a rowing boat to tow it to a safe path!

No! The MSM simply want to deflect and absolve, rewrite history and put all, ALL the blame for this mess onto googleyeyes.

David Murray is the reason why Scottish football is in the mess its in, trying, and failing, to emulate nay TRUMP Celtic in his pursuit of European glory without stopping to think that no matter what they would always be second.

Jail SDM for the ruination of the game I love.

But a little confussed, if they lose the tax case, then they only pay what there are supposed to, with the fines added? Why cant HMRC go for the amount they should have been paying + fines? ”

Every individual is responsible for paying his or her own tax. The reason that Rangers are on the hook in this case is that they failed to operate PAYE/NIC in accordance with the regulations In those circumstances, HMRC has the right to recover from the employer what should have been deducted plus seek tax-based penalties and interest as a result of that failure. That recovery is the tax/NIC on the gross amount. Only if the employer had agreed to pay the employee on a net of tax basis would the recovery be grossed up.

As an example, assuming 40% tax rate and ignoring NIC, employer fails to operate PAYE on £100 gross, employer has to pay HMRC £40.

Employer agrees to net pay basis, a PAYE failure on £100 mean employer has to pay HMRC £66.67. In other words, the gross before tax income figure is really £166.67 in order to leave the individual with the agreed net of £100.

Now, I suppose those HMRC fellows know their job but I’d be checking the contracts of some of thgose foreign players since many such players coming to the UK insist on being pais “netto”. If that were the case, then everything that was paid to them would have to be grossed up for tax with the employer liable to pay it.

  17. The Battered Bunnet on

    Dirtymac is quite right.

Rangers used the EBT to pay their players ‘netto’ without the requisite ‘gross’ costs.

Essentially, for every £ paid into the EBT, Rangers saved 91 pence of gross wages and employers National Insurance.

Having paid £49 Million in the scheme over the period 2000-2010, the total saving is in the order of £45 Million.

Rangers’ savings on wage costs during the period of use of the EBT scheme was £4.5 Million per season on average, eclipsing the total annual wage bill of competitors such as Hibernian and Dundee United.

that HMRC are only going after a ‘pre-tax’ slice of that is a pity. If they adopted the view that these payments were ‘post-tax’, as they do by rote in other cases, their current excposure would be doubled.

    Hey ho.

  19. TBB

PAYE regulations provide for recovery from the employer of undeducted PAYE/NIC on gross income. If there has been a net pay agreement between the employee and the employer, then the £166.67 in my example above is the real gross amount but the recovery is still only on the gross.

HMRC do not try to gross up in PAYE recovery cases unless they can show a net pay agreement.

  20. 20.28, previous day, by the exiled tim. Great post I was thinking along the same lines as yourself, it may be better for us if they get a smaller tax bill rather than give the spl/sfa an opportunity to employ their corrupt practices and let a Newco into our league scot free.

I’m stuck and who better to turn to than the most knowledgeable football fans in the world.

I’m trying to remember a table football game that had two knobs that you turned to kick the ball. The pitch undulated so the ball (steel marble?) always rolled to a player. The players had something like a rudder at their base so when the knobs were turned, the players spun and sent the ball heading (hopefully) for the opposing goal. (I thought of flipper football but none of the images from google resemble the game)

  24. Lol “our” league should be “the” league or perhaps more accurately ” their” league. Because its not ran for or by people of our team, or ethos, its ran by people with the ethos of fascists. We are the people after all eh???

This is Exactly what separates us from them, we are the team of ALL the people, their statement has more to do with saying “look anyone who is not one of us IS not the people, is inferior” funny how these white supremacist types are the ones with least reason to feel superior to anyone yet are the most deluded and self important people one could ever have the unfortunate experience of breathing the same air as them. I mean they absolutely pollute the air.

    Thanks guys!

Think I got it now. So the action that HMRC have instigated, only gets some of the taxes that the cheating scum should have paid. That is a pity. But, dont care in their case, it should be the final nail, wether that nail is bigger than required matters not, so long as its big enough, thats good enough for me!

But, I do feel all the taxes should be paid back, if administration is the result. Otherwise, they are still getting away with not paying all of it……
