Be more like Matt and less like Liam.

239

Last week we discussed the stalled career of Liam Morrison, who left Celtic as a teenager five years ago to go to Bayern Munich but having made no impact there has now grabbed a lifeline at QPR.

This should give Daniel Kelly (18) something to ponder as he stalls on accepting a contract offer from Celtic, with reported interest from Germany.

The Bundesliga churns through more youth players than anywhere outside England. It’s a numbers game where the best majority will make no impact on the first team (unlike Daniel at Celtic) before being released having missed crucial development.

Matt O’Riley is the role model.  Matt left the Fulham youth wilderness to play first team football. Be more like Matt and less like Liam.

  1. !!Bada Bing!! on

There you have it,no wifi, hot water, just pay your money for season tickets,Cup tickets, 4 new strips a season, and STFU

  2. bb,

does the wi-fi connectivity affect your enjoyment of the football match ?

  3. Being a Celtic fan and writing a Celtic blog doesn’t preclude you from objectivity. My opinions don’t change whether I’m speaking to my mates or commenting on here, nor would they change should I choose to inflict my own blog on the Celtic internet (you’ll be delighted to know no plans on the horizon). The failure to be objective erodes credibility. I suppose it does explain the downfall of his once respected site, now derided as simply being a mouthpiece for Peter Lawwell.

Today’s blog however didn’t make any sense. Morrison may not be playing for Celtic but he seems to be on an upward career trajectory getting a move to a far more competitive league than the SPFL having just turned 21. It exaggerates Kelly’s impact last season. And makes a Matt O’Riley analogy which if applied logically would encourage the player to leave Celtic and seek regular first team football at a lower level. Baffling.

Anyway, I’m assuming no one is watching England tonight, looking forward to seeing Lawal, what a back 5 that is!

  4. Lets say we get Bernardo and Idah, great. but that would be the status quo from the season end, minus Big Joe of course. What ever happened to our QUALITY signing, eh

    Bullshit again

You’ve done exactly what you’re criticizing Paul67 for, in the next sentence.

  6. It feels like we are having a similar debate to this time last season.

Main difference being there is no question of whether we are weaker or not. We are. We must be. Players have left and no replacements yet.

Interestingly, many of the same arguments were raised. No rush. No panic. The euro qualification deadline is the biggie.

This resulted in the Celtic site publishing an article on 20th August 2023 titled ‘League Cup disappointment as Celtic lose to Kilmarnock’.

This mattered to me. Others may have been less concerned. In which case, let’s repeat the model. No rush. No urgency. Everything is fine.

I’m sure Rodgers won’t hang about if his “ambition” levels are not matched by the board or has he just become another Lawwell fan boy?

I’ve criticised Paul in a number of different ways so can you specify? I’m assuming objectivity (or lack thereof) but can’t see where I’ve not been objective so would appreciate you pointing it out

    there is worser wans.

some buy a season book , dont use it, then sit at home banging the keyboard that the celtic are shite.

  12. The youth players and their dads in particular get caught up in the fantasy of believing the kids are going to live this incredible lifestyle that the very few make it into.

They rarely make decisions based on a career but on believing they’ll have 10 -15 years in the spotlight and be able to put millions away.

Really shows you what M’OR’s made of.

those players were not celtics, they were loans.

not the status quo if we get them.
