Be straight with the people of Leicester, Brendan

212

None of us are particularly focussed on Tynecastle tonight, so you can imagine how players who have worked for and with Brendan Rodgers for over two years are feeling right now.  They have all the excuses in the world for a reversal, but they have to find it in themselves to put all off-field distractions aside and beat Hearts.

Brendan, Chris Davies and Kolo Toure have left the building.  Neil Lennon has been away less than five years but he worked with few who are likely to feature tonight.  The most important element of consistency we have is Scott Brown.  He has seen it all in his 12 years at Celtic and worked hand in glove with Neil during the latter’s four years as manager.

Yesterday I gave Brendan credit for his honesty, but something rankled in his later comments at Leicester, “I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club.”  No, you won’t, Brendan.  It’s just a gig.  If Tottenham come calling you’ll be off.  We all know this, so be straight with the people of Leicester.

Rodgers is gone, he has no bearing on my life anymore, i neither care how well he does or what he doesnt, he is an irrelevance. I wouldnt waste anymore of my time thinking about him and even hoping for his ill will.

We’ll be fine starting with a win tonight, Hearts only beat us last time due to team selection and at the start of the season, and even then they were lucky with their 1 nil win. 3 nil Hoops, Burke first goal scorer

Thon carry on yesterday wasn’t rational human thought or behaviour, that’s why it’s inexplicable.

The space cadet is a genuis manager though, and he’ll be a success at Leicester, pointless trying to pretend otherwise.

Utter nonsense made all the more nonsensical with the news that Leicester were willing to wait for Brendan in the Summer and he decided to leave now.

Again and I’ve asked before with no answer where was he not backed? McGinn? even Brendan must admit that he wasn’t worth what we offered and he certainly wasn’t worth the 6m he went for. Is he just too arrogant to admit that he was wrong about McGinn and that Christie, McGregor, Rogic, Henderson and Ntcham are all better players anyway? was it a centre back? in January we had on our books Benkovic, Boyata, Simunovic, Ajer, Hendry and Commper (ish) signing another would have made little sense. Was it after Dembele left? Dembele himself has alleged that it was Brendan who blocked him from leaving and the board had backed that decision 20m or no 20m. It was only after a discusson between Brendan and the player late in the day that he was allowed to leave and we had next to no time to sign a replacement. It’s also not the boards fault that Griff has issues (get well soon).

Also our January window has left us stronger even if it is only temporary, Burke, Weah and Tolijan are better than Davis, Defoe and Kamara. We’ve won two trebles in a row during this ‘won’t back the manager’ period was this all down to Rodgers alone? I hear he wasn’t in charge of transfers well then the scouting team (Commper aside) have done pretty well. Don’t forget there’s been question marks over Rodgers and player recruitment in the past, he didn’t want Coutinho at Liverpool saying that the signing was forced on him and insisted on the signing of Balotelli to replace Suarez!

I’m not sure that we just have to wake up to the fact that backing the manager in this current period of stupid English Premier League excess is next to impossible unless the manager has realistic expectations. When Aston Villa in the Championship are spending 6M on players like McGinn or our record signing Edouard at 8 or 9 mill (depending on the source) is the kind of money that Watford and Bournemouth are spending on reserves and youth teamers then I’m honestly proud that our board will not risk the club for the sake of a managers ego. Nobody is bigger than the club no manager, player, fan or board member.

  7. Not focussed on Tynecastle?! What a bizarre comment!

The previous manager has gone to a middling club. But that was yesterday’s news and tomorrow fish & chip paper..

IMO,it’s important the players continue to play formation and tactics, we have been up till this point. If NL tries to impose his ideas right now,it could be confusing ……

    ———

Been thinking the exact same myself. That’s why I’m in two minds about NL coming in and whether or not JK/SB could have done the job. Managers will often try to change something in order to justify their position.

I can see why we have done it and it’s good that we have acted quickly, rather than drop a few points and then do it.

  11. It’s difficult to believe that DD and PL didn’t know this was going to happen, the more you think about it. What with the Lenny situation at Hibs and the acquisition of Damien Duff.

Dermot Desmond brought Damien to the club.

I think that was a good move though. Damien is of impeccable character, strong minded yet he will be a calming influence. And he was a genuinely brilliant footballer. Some contact of Desmond’s has seen potential there.

Whats your take on the summer transfer window then? Revisionism is a terrible thing. I think it was more to do with the Valencia RB and Fabian Scharr than McGinn. Why do we have so much money sitting in the bank? As someone, more eloquent than me, put it, we’re saving for a rainy day that we are responsible for making (badly paraphrased)

Couldn’t care less about BR and what he does from now, but we still have issues beyond the management of the football team.

  20. Sure he won’t have any regrets, always learning.

“Brendan Rodgers, Watford’s former manager, has revealed he should never have left Vicarage Road.

Rodgers returns with Swansea tomorrow night and is bracing himself for a hot reception from the home fans after quitting Watford for Reading just 192 days into his tenure.

“My gut feeling at the time was to leave but there is no doubt that I shouldn’t have,” said Rodgers.

Last season, the former Chelsea coach was forced to employ a personal bodyguard after receiving death threats ahead of Watford’s visit to the Madejski Stadium.

He said: “The atmosphere will be more personal and tense than usual. The fans will want to show I shouldn’t have left — but I can handle it.

“There was a lot of tension last season and I had a bodyguard. I was told there was a threat against my life.”

The last manager has an unhealthy obsession with the EPL, akin to a mental illness.

I often felt our youth did not get the respect they deserved due to Rodgers obsession with EPL Have stated this frequently

I have stated that KT’s game had diminished under Brendans tutelage.Rather than admire and build on his strengths Brendan seemed determined to implement his coaching no matter how detrimental it was to KT’s overall game.

Would Brendan have treated an epl star in the same manner?

Also the treatment of Mikey Johnston after the ibrox debacle really rankles.

Brendan totally f%cked up but rather than accept it was his fault he pointed the finger at the players and punished Johnston who had been playing well by banishing him and stifling his development again.

His so called brilliance with young players was never extended to the Scottish youth like Ralston,Atchison or Christie who spent 2 years on loan and who would have vanished if we had signed others .Even then it was only injuries to others that gave him a spot.

Thon carry on yesterday wasn’t rational human thought or behaviour, that’s why it’s inexplicable.

Maybe he took the opportunity in case waiting till the seasons end someone had been given the job?

I have had a debate with my brother for around a year that Celtic fans worrying about Brendan leaving when a big club came calling was unnecessary as he was a good but limited coach who would get no better than a bottom half team

.He is realistically a tier 2 coach at the world level as he lacks the detail to really execute and has no pragmatism so can’t adapt when his system is exposed.

His ego will be his undoing.

The space cadet is a genuis manager though, and he’ll be a success at Leicester, pointless trying to pretend otherwise.

My post above states why i disagree on this statement.

I understand the anger by many towards Brendan but anyone who knows my posting history will know that is not the case for me.

Not upset that he has gone but the circumstances and timing show utter contempt for the Celtic family.

i get the need to vent, but he’s gone and he doesnt give a hoot, best left to his own devices. He’s not worth our collective worry, angst, anger, feeling of betrayal, his achievements will be recorded and were appreciated at the time.

Time for reflection and progression will be the summer, when there’ll be a natural cull, with players out of contract, loan signings returning to their parent clubs and players being let go or sold.

Till then, in true SMSM style, Neil Lennon’s Celtic take on all comers

Hi, there was a poster on here once, who used to say “Brendan was here to smooth the return of the o** f*** game back onto the fixture list, without any reaction from our support, as Rangers were coming into the top league without any action being taken for the ebt cheating campaign.”

I wonder if he was correct, and if Brendan was used to mug off the support ?

If Brendan knew he was doing that? If he did, it is very hurtful.

Good luck to Brendan, thank you for what you did for our club, you’ll not be the first person to leave our club under a storm, with a lot of confusion, and I’m sure that you won’t be the the last.

Welcome back Neil Lennon, your place in the heart of Celtic supporters, grows by the minute. Good luck to all, especially those on here who provide the live updates, you are life savers, thanks.
