Beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva for Champions League football

822

Celtic will face Israelis Hapoel Beer-Sheva in the Champions League playoff round later this month, with the first leg due to take place at Celtic Park.

Hapoel, carrying a Uefa coefficient of 4, eliminated Olympiakos, coefficient: 70, in the last round – a bigger shock than Dundalk’s win over BATE.  They put on two backs-to-the-wall performances, drawing the first leg in Greece 0-0 before winning the return 1-0.  In the earlier round they shot the Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova, winning 3-2 in Israel before securing another 0-0 away.

The positives: the Israeli league hasn’t started yet, so Hapoel will be no further into their season’s preparations than Celtic.  It also looks like the play on grass.

In recent seasons Celtic have found new and innovative ways to bow out at this stage but we know what’s required and will be strong favourites to progress.

Bring it on.

  1. Clogher Celt the team needs the supporters this month. We can be the 12 man every game with the biggest two that matter at Celtic park and beer Sheba. Exciting stuff. Not sure it will make the papers though.

I’m sure that no-one would want to jeopardise the feel-good zone we are currently in. That would be curmudgeonly.

    Sure ?

    Have we signed anyone yet?

    Thought not.

Sevco have signed a lot of players. Maybe you should support them. Or some moneybags English team.

If that’s all you care about.

Re the game v Beer Sheba

Looks like the return match will be played in hot and humid conditions so hopefully we go there with a two or three goal cushion.

Was it St. Johstone who got fined by EUFA because one of their supporters flew a Palestinian flag at a game?

Therefore, because of a number of trumped up charges against us and repetitive sanctions it would be better if everyone left their Palestinian flags outside the ground IMHO.

That sounds good. Canny beat guid company wi common ground, common memories to share, and guid beer to wash it all down.

It’s what hootenannies are all about. It’s what any meeting of Celtic minds is all about. Bury our differences in a blizzard of tales of heroism and valour,wi the pride of being a Tim.

  8. Also remember they just beat the Moldovans with a late penalty (in fact they got 2 pens in that game) otherwise they’d have been out on the away goals rule.

  9. VFR800A8 Should work out for us but hydration will be important. Clearly a good solid Israeli team but we can get organised and beat them . Win in the first game should do it.

Nega wasn’t expecting you on so soon after a victory! BR signings will come in his own good time , not yours or mine. Hope you have some joy this season. I am sure we will draw or lose a few games.

  10. We have drawn the Israeli side, better book our slot with the EUFA disciplinary committee, maybe PL could negotiate a pre match fine:-))) for the GB banner in advance

As for the game it appears they don’t give a lot away, as long as we can win without conceding dreaded away goal i will take that

I certainly wouldn’t like to think otherwise,I want us all singing from the same hymn-sheet.

Problem is,I suspect that the choirmaster is holding back.

  12. AN TEACH SOLAIS on 5TH AUGUST 2016 12:55 PM it’s a hot dry climate. Desert. Very hot during the day cools down in the evening cold at night. Agree that we should not put Celtic under eufa sanctions but sadly it is inevitable. Hope that a few will put the club before themselves this one but expect a turnout which the club will just need to manage. For the less politically inclined their is some open doors for an adventure.

It is time to ENSURE to the extent we can that we get group stages qualification.

Surely its obvious we need new players.

If not we will have a torrid time if we qualify.

Thanks for the correction re evening temperatures.

Perhaps EUFA will be seeking more punitive sanctions than fines if political banner or Palestinian flags displayed. Partial ground closure? Can we not have any demo outside the ground? Why would some of our supporters seek to damage the club even when their actions have moral justification.?

  19. I have come to a major decision.

In the footballing equivalence of ecumenicism, I have decided to buy a The Rangers top. I presume that they are widely available for sale in Glasgow?

If I can’t get one in the next 5 minutes, the offer is off.

  20. TAURANGABHOY,

Who cares what the newspapers say? :) We’ve already been told that the main criteria re content is ‘it sells.’

I wonder if Sevco have decided which jersey they will wear tomorrow? They have plenty of the ‘Hope for Heroes’ scam tops lying about if they decide to breach their contracts with PUMA and Sports Direct ;-)

  23. AN TEACH SOLAIS hopefully won’t come to that, but it is a possibility. Price that the GB need to consider. I think the GB is our heart and soul, total respect and thanks to them for keeping it real, most of the time. Maybe a wee poster will get their message out without too much pain fir Celtic. I will be personally disappointed when they go anti Semitic but it will happen anyway, always the way with armchair warriors. They get it right most times so this is just a challenge. Hopefully the punitive measures do not mean closed doors. No one wants that. Hail hail mate.

Be boring if we all agreed about everything.

Obviously….if we want to do anything in the CL, we must sign some quality.

By all means demonstrate if you must , but somewhere else.

Incidentally , the Palestinians are also Semites.

  29. Feelgood factor? where? We have basically the same squad as last year who were not good enough to qualify, or win a single game in EL. res 12 sorted? sevco acclaimed as same club? Starting league raising flag at Parkhead? Oops we need the Championship team to do that…..

  30. We are no further forward than last year squad wise. 4th year in a row saying we will buy when we qualify…

  31. The potential flags are merely a mixture of our colours this season. Green and white, black and cerise. The fact that any national flag contains those is pure coincidence.

  32. I am both pro Israel and Palestine, However as far as football goes I am Celtic to the core.
