BEATON IN CHARGE

JOHN BEATON will be in charge of Celtic’s must-win Premiership encounter against Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday night.

The match official, who was on VAR duty in the champions’ 3-1 derby win at Parkhead yesterday, will be assisted by David McGeachie and Jonathan Bell on the flanks while Andrew Dallas will be in front of the screens.

Coincidentally, Beaton was also the whistler when the Hoops beat Jens Berthel Askou’s side 3-1 in the east end of Glasgow in mid-March.

ON THE SPOT…Tomas Cvancara prepares to take the penalty-kick against Motherwell at Parkhead in March. The on-loan striker netted Celtic’s third and final goal in the 3-1 win.

He awarded Martin O’Neill’s team a penalty-kick following a VAR review on his touchline monitor. He also red-carded Well defender Emmanuel Longelo for hauling down Daizen Maeda before Tomas Cvancara netted his second – and final – Celtic goal from the spot.

Yang Hyun-jun had scored the previous two goals after the visitors had taken the lead through Elijah Just.

Well won 2-0 at home against Scotland’s title kings in late December to inflict one of six defeats on Wilfried Nancy during his chaotic 33-day reign as Hoops boss.
