Beaton threshold on kicking, stamping and the rest

1148

We deservedly lost at Ibrox on Saturday, so it would have been inappropriate to apportion any responsibility towards referee John Beaton, for the free reign Newco player Alfredo Morelos had to kick Scott Brown, stamp on Anthony Ralston and assault the genitals of Ryan Christie during the game.

These things occasionally happen in football (although seldom in such quantities) and are picked up by the SFA review process.  What is exceptional about these circumstances is that the review process is unable to act as the referee claims to have witnessed each incident and determined no action was worthy of a caution or more.

Beaton will have mitigated his decisions with some or other explanation, perhaps with “It wasn’t that bad a stamp” type comment.  This is how the process works.  The system is rightly designed to protect referees and allow them latitude to make decisions, including the occasional mistake.

It is not always easy to view common assault for what it is, in fact, it is easy to get carried away with an occasion and raise your threshold for such matters.  It is only human to be affected this way.  But this is bad refereeing.

Beaton could have taken the easy route out and claimed he missed one or more of the incidents, each was off the ball, after all.  That would have allowed the review panel to dispassionately decide if such attacks are to be prohibited, or encouraged, in our game.  Instead, he affirmed that in his view, there was nothing in Morelos behaviour worthy of a caution.

I have no idea what Dedryck Boyata said to earn his red card from John Beaton against St Johnstone earlier this season but I defended the referee’s decision that day.  You have to trust match officials to competently carry out their duties.  Do I still trust John Beaton’s views on kicking players, stamping, genital punching and the like?  No.  His views and significantly out of line with mine.

I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job.  A good referee would have cautioned Morelos for the first incident (kick on Brown).  This may have prevented the more serious attacks on Ralston and Christie, but the Newco player was not even spoken to after any of the incidents.

These are not easy games to officiate but this was not a game full of controversy or incident, only one player and one referee lost the plot.

  1. Go tell the Spartim on

And now we have the PLC’s view on that particular game

its all about protecting the O** F***

    Disappointing viewpoint indeed

  2. All we are sayyyyiiinngggg iis please give us a signing………

Shares up in F5 PC button suppliers.

‘Reports say’ is a euphemism for ‘let’s rip the pish out of Celtic…’

  3. A good referee would have cautioned Morelos for the first kick ?

We’re well and truly down the rabbit hole now. Kicking a player off the ball is a straight red in any other professional league on the planet.

Does anyone remember referee Michael Delaney from Clydebank?

Does anyone remember what the SFA did to him? Shameless Masonic Bastards!

  5. Why is the forearm smash on Christie by Morelos being ignored?

That, for me, was his worse offence of the 4 NOT 3 incidents.

Anyway, it looks like Celtic PLC will take it, as usual.

    Hail Hail

I remember a Mick Delaney from Cleland,I know him, he worked in the Craig and sent Souness off for slashing McCLuskey’s thigh when George played for Hibs.

Gallagher thinks a kick in the baws is not serious , try it in the street, and I don’t care what tie or rugby top he wears.

Will Celtic say anything, this is probably their response today, move on.

“I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job.”

Im sure the board would only agree with one part of that statement…….

Are we now happy to take our seat at the back of the bus Paul?

  8. Why do we keep coming up with the past on here,we were beaten by the better team on Saturday, our team performance and selection was deplorable, nowt to do with the reffere, and what has Michael Deleany getting mentioned, same old patter masonic this masonic that,it’s in my opinion the present custodian’s at Celtic Football Club ,need chased down London Rd,new board new broom ,take

If culpability for Beatons actions extend no further than himself the SFA would then need to sanction him for incompetence, generally delivered via demotion. Dont hold your breath waiting for that to happen, more likely he will be rewarded in some way.

“Beaton could have taken the easy route out and claimed he missed one or more of the incidents, each was off the ball, after all. ”

    ———

That would have been difficult. From the footage he appears to be looking straight in the direction of the Brown and Ralston incidents at least.

Maybe he thought he was just being “a bit silly”?

    Au Contraire.

The one thing Beaton didn’t do was lose the plot, he stayed perfectly calm and followed the plot meticulously even to the point of lying and saying he saw nothing wrong.

It’s called cheating and the silence from Celtic is called deafening.

  12. It’s been many months since I last posted on this site.

Today’s leader from P67 tells me I’ve made the right call.

I remember many here mocking the Huns mouthpiece Chris Graham and the fact he’s on the Huns payroll via Club1872..

Reading the last few leaders it appears he may not be the only fanzine writer on a clubs payroll. How else do you explain the recent articles from our once-esteemed site founder? Today’s is beyond even the most sarcastic parody.

Paul 67 hang YOUR head in shame. Let’s martch to parkhead and sort this once and for all.

Unacceptable post backing a currupt Hun ref.

  14. SeriouslyPaul? Not a conspiracy just a poor ref? Couldyou see those decisions going the other way? I watched their game at Perth. In second half it was complete bias. St Jcouldn’t eben go near one of their players without it being a foul. Next you will be saying we tried to sign players in January but no one wanted our money….

I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job.

You do not think he deliberately allowed free rein to Morelos and all the other attacks/tackles on other celtic players? I honestly cannot comprehend your comments on Beatson. So you are now pushing the agenda , he just had a poor game, nothing to see here, swallow up theres good boys.

Using adsense and monetizing the site is one thing, pushing an obvious lie is something completely different, you should be ashamed.

Well said. Just take it and move on. Our board want the “Old Firm” brand back in full swing and will not flinch if it takes a title win for Sevco to fully bring it back to life. Their disregard for the supporters is akin to the Kelly’s and Grant’s of the old board. The difference this time seems to be the lack of real anger amongst our support to do anything about it…..

Scottish football had a chance to clean house when they were liquidated. It chose not to do so.

    You reap what you sow.

  18. The leader article could have been written by Peter Lawwell. In fact, it probably was. Sorry Paul but you’ve nailed your colours to the wrong mast and those colours are not green.

  19. BR team selection and tactics(if any) were wrong . Players were poor. But they should have been down to 10 men after 10 minutes. But were obviously told before game that they could foul all day if they wanted

  20. Paul .

I agree with the jist of your article if taken in isolation. The problem occurs when we examine the diffence in how Morelas is officiated during games compared with others .

The next issue is how Morelas and Rangers also seem , to be judged differently, for similar offences committed by others.

The incidents involving Bougherra fouling Keane over 20 times and remaining on the park are still fresh in the memory .

Bocangera man handled a referee called Mr Murray who then stated that he didn’t feel threatened in an incident during a game against Oldco . Much like yesterday, we all thought the book would be thrown at him it wasn’t.

There’s a pattern that’s developed over the years. Let’s not even mention LNS , judicial reviews & secret 5 way agreements.

Doing or saying nothing is either being a coward or being complicit.

How long are we expected to pay into a game that’s undoubtedly bent ?

  21. Think it’s doing Beaton an injustice calling him incompetent. He was refusing to apply the laws of the game. Either way he should be called out by our club.

Any sign of Collum reffing another sevco game?

They are two separate issues, I think you know that.

The vast majority of fans know that Celtic didn’t turn up on Sat.

However that doesn’t mean I can’t call out Cheatin Beaton.

The fact that he was comfortable enough to go for a drink in the loyalist crown bar, in Bellshill, after the game tells me all I need to do about Beaton.

A pub where a Rangers supporters bus leaves from and a loyalist flute band practices in.

It also tells me his paymasters are comfortable with that too.

Apologies and kudos to Kev. You were right all along.

  27. DAY 4 in the Big Brother Transfer window and the housemates are getting restless. They have had nothing to sustain them for 4 straight days except the very large and expensively bought hamper that they brought in with them. Through the glass, they can see the Blue Team have already added to their tawdry hamper with some mature cheese and they look on with envy and a sudden longing for stinky cheese that they never knew they had.

They are taking their ire out on housemate Peter N’eerdowell, to whom they entrusted their budget as he has refused to spend it because the shops are only selling their old rubbish during this early part of the sales period. He tells them that there will be better deals on food to be had if they are patient and wait till that product hits the shops. He advises them to munch on the perfectly acceptable fruit that they have meantime and he will buy some new fruit which will ripen given time. But, as with the cheese, they only want fruit that is just on the point of turning and over -ripening because that is the most expensive fruit in the shops and would be proof that Mr. N’eerdowell loves them and cares about them.

They suspect, however, that Mr. Peter has other plans for their money and they have caught him perusing catalogues for non-food items. One such appeared to be for an inflammable road and they wondered why on earth anyone would want one of those.

The atmosphere of tension and angst is rising and it is being stoked by the voice over double act of ex-tabloid newsmen Pants and Dick, who constantly tell them of Peter’s devious plans and ridicule them with comparisons as to how well things are going on in the Blue Room, where the band is being brought back together and going on an EBT (Extra Blue Tour) tour.

It will be interesting to see who the housemates nominate for eviction when the vote comes. One housemate, Kev, is calling on all others to leave the household all together and leave Pete behind. He says we should let the Blue Room win because its not fair and it never has been. When asked what they will get when they leave and forfeit their prize, he mutters “Dignity” and adds, “Oh aye! and a copy of Pants and Dick’s latest book “A salute to the staunch lads who stopped the 10”

Tune in for more boring speculations of doom tomorrow.
