Beaton threshold on kicking, stamping and the rest

1148

We deservedly lost at Ibrox on Saturday, so it would have been inappropriate to apportion any responsibility towards referee John Beaton, for the free reign Newco player Alfredo Morelos had to kick Scott Brown, stamp on Anthony Ralston and assault the genitals of Ryan Christie during the game.

These things occasionally happen in football (although seldom in such quantities) and are picked up by the SFA review process.  What is exceptional about these circumstances is that the review process is unable to act as the referee claims to have witnessed each incident and determined no action was worthy of a caution or more.

Beaton will have mitigated his decisions with some or other explanation, perhaps with “It wasn’t that bad a stamp” type comment.  This is how the process works.  The system is rightly designed to protect referees and allow them latitude to make decisions, including the occasional mistake.

It is not always easy to view common assault for what it is, in fact, it is easy to get carried away with an occasion and raise your threshold for such matters.  It is only human to be affected this way.  But this is bad refereeing.

Beaton could have taken the easy route out and claimed he missed one or more of the incidents, each was off the ball, after all.  That would have allowed the review panel to dispassionately decide if such attacks are to be prohibited, or encouraged, in our game.  Instead, he affirmed that in his view, there was nothing in Morelos behaviour worthy of a caution.

I have no idea what Dedryck Boyata said to earn his red card from John Beaton against St Johnstone earlier this season but I defended the referee’s decision that day.  You have to trust match officials to competently carry out their duties.  Do I still trust John Beaton’s views on kicking players, stamping, genital punching and the like?  No.  His views and significantly out of line with mine.

I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job.  A good referee would have cautioned Morelos for the first incident (kick on Brown).  This may have prevented the more serious attacks on Ralston and Christie, but the Newco player was not even spoken to after any of the incidents.

These are not easy games to officiate but this was not a game full of controversy or incident, only one player and one referee lost the plot.

  2. Hi Bhoys

How about this for a take of the transfers so far.

If the three bhoys have signed thats good for us in that we have signed three forward thinking players. One a permanent deal centre forward to add to our other two already permanent centre’s we have. The other two bhoys positions, well one will be cover for the one permenant centre who is currently absent. The other will add competition for the wing positions were the bhoys currently playing there are blowing hot and cold.

All this for very little outlay leaving the real money to be spent for permanent signings in the defence were we are very short of staff and quality (not all positions). So maybe it’s just me but I like to think this will be our custodians chain of thought. If it works out that way that should see us through to the end of the season and eight in a row.

For me , the single most important issue there is retaining the services of Brendan .

Do you know if he has said anything to suggest he may leave or this rumour based on CQN speculation ?

  4. If we get these 3 in then it’s a start.

A chance for Ollie to shine.

A chance for Tim to show PSG what he can do

Bayo if we get him at least he is ours and I seen the YouTube clip (I know) but he doesn’t look scared to put his head in where it counts.

A good start after 12 months and 5 days (3 transfer windows)

Joebhoy, headtheball , Cliftonville celt ( if you still lurk) and other 6 county folk – forgive me if I get this wrong but all this cheaton business and thems living by other rules is the exact same as Arlene cheating the government out of subsidy money she swindled into her community and the biomass fraud! We don’t have to abide by the rules; the ends justify the means is part of their culture. Hope I’m not simplifying things too much, just look at the parades’ commission determinations they stick two fingers up at. They’re all beaton lafferties as far as I’m concerned.

  6. If Celtic (Lawwell and DD) really wanted to take on the ftsfa then never mind writing letters asking for explanations. (Remember the letter after the ICT semi-final)

Simply go out and bring the RB, CHs, MF and forwards and then go for it.

But, Lawwell and DD will fuck about.

Another thing, about the blog recently.

We are ALL entitled to air our opinion on what OUR club do wether it be positive, negative or informative.

We can’t all be right and we can’t all be wrong even Paul67. He said he would be happy with two centre halves or was it only one in this window. So even Paul67 being PL’s alleged mouthpiece got it wrong. So what do the rest of us really know? eh. Keep it real bhoys.

Scaniel at 9.26 re the guy on radio 5 talking about Beaton or Brerton as he called, him the ref at our game last Saturday.

The comment was made by Gerrard’s former Liverpool team mate, Stephen Warnock .

Unbelievable verbal mince from Stephen Warnock . Its a pity Chris Sutton wasn’t on to tell Warnock about Beaton seeing 5 incidents where Morelos should have been sent off.

  13. PSG have extended Weah’s contract until 2021 before loaning him to us. They must think he’s a player. Let’s hope so.

Celtic is part of my/our family. It really hurts to see some of the injusticies and the club sitting idly by

We need the balls to say “enough is enough” here is what is wrong EBTs , SFA structure , referees et al, fix it or we’ll find another league

    ——————————————————————————————————————————–

The club has at least made a statement which is the very least they could do given the reaction by fans since the Compliance Officer’s decision. However, the next step has to be taken by the fans.

Our next match is at home in the Scottish Cup against ClydebankAirdrie. The Scottish Cup is the FtSFA’s showpiece competition. As a start, the fans should boycott this match and make it clear to all concerned, including our own board, that we are not going to rest until we see honesty and transparency at every level of the professional game. Acres of empty seats will say more to the powers that be than umpteen posts about how corrupt the SFA is and how weak our board is.

It’s time for our own supporters to grow a set of balls. Anything else is just pissing against the wind.

  16. Looks to me like our statement spooked the sfa. They have read it and realised they don’t have an answer to our questions, how can they. Beaton has declared himself happy with his decisions although clearly wrong, and the sfa, by their inaction have backed him. It’s either arrogance or a deliberate decision to prevent any damaging ban against the sevco player. (and get it up us) It’s no coincidence that shortly afterwards and no doubt a flurry of phone calls or emails, the threatening texts and calls story appears.

All this when their offices are closed for the weekend. Plod will either find the culprits fairly quickly or charge Beaton with wasting police time as there is no way they can allow folk to just make stuff up. – what!!

  17. M6BHOY

  18. Go tell the Spartim on

Should We (Celtic plc) merely point out that abuse and assault has befallen the refs all season and not a peep but as soon as we suggest something they react let’s ask them why and is it purely based on their sectetaniasm, why not we’ve got nothing to lose

  19. How’s it going ghuys, has cheatin beaton been done yet ? Didnae think so ! The bold John can join the rest of rectum !!!’

The 6th choice keeper is Ryan Mullen. He must be next in the pecking order after Gordon and Bain (who are there) , De Vries (who will be off looking for a new club, probably) and fancied reserves Conor Hazard and Ross Doohan who are on loan to Thistle and Ayr, I think.

    Celts in Dubai

Much of the chat about Brendan leaving dates from Aug- Oct 2018 when it was viral. Lots of scrutinising of runes, body language and so-called insider comment. It caused some heated debate on here and on most other Celtic sites as it emerged that BR had an offer from China that he wanted to take up. That rumour has never gone away with posters attributing BR’s team selection at Ibrox to a could not care less attitude or sending messages to the Board. It was a theme expressed on here even in the last few days and I believe that Chris Sutton made a statement to that effect in a recent newspaper articles. I searched for it on Newsnow, where I saw it but I could not locate it and I am off to my kip.

Perhaps , someone else can locate this for you
