Beaton threshold on kicking, stamping and the rest

We deservedly lost at Ibrox on Saturday, so it would have been inappropriate to apportion any responsibility towards referee John Beaton, for the free reign Newco player Alfredo Morelos had to kick Scott Brown, stamp on Anthony Ralston and assault the genitals of Ryan Christie during the game.

These things occasionally happen in football (although seldom in such quantities) and are picked up by the SFA review process.  What is exceptional about these circumstances is that the review process is unable to act as the referee claims to have witnessed each incident and determined no action was worthy of a caution or more.

Beaton will have mitigated his decisions with some or other explanation, perhaps with “It wasn’t that bad a stamp” type comment.  This is how the process works.  The system is rightly designed to protect referees and allow them latitude to make decisions, including the occasional mistake.

It is not always easy to view common assault for what it is, in fact, it is easy to get carried away with an occasion and raise your threshold for such matters.  It is only human to be affected this way.  But this is bad refereeing.

Beaton could have taken the easy route out and claimed he missed one or more of the incidents, each was off the ball, after all.  That would have allowed the review panel to dispassionately decide if such attacks are to be prohibited, or encouraged, in our game.  Instead, he affirmed that in his view, there was nothing in Morelos behaviour worthy of a caution.

I have no idea what Dedryck Boyata said to earn his red card from John Beaton against St Johnstone earlier this season but I defended the referee’s decision that day.  You have to trust match officials to competently carry out their duties.  Do I still trust John Beaton’s views on kicking players, stamping, genital punching and the like?  No.  His views and significantly out of line with mine.

I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job.  A good referee would have cautioned Morelos for the first incident (kick on Brown).  This may have prevented the more serious attacks on Ralston and Christie, but the Newco player was not even spoken to after any of the incidents.

These are not easy games to officiate but this was not a game full of controversy or incident, only one player and one referee lost the plot.

The game is up. Even the board and Paul/peter peter/Paul have gave up up standing up for the club that employs them.

Memories of what could have been is all we will cling onto in the summer as Brendan walks, the team breaks up and we get another hand puppet in. I’m ashamed of my clubs silenced. Utterly ashamed.

Where else in European football would at least 3 of the officials running one of the games biggest derbies be supporters of one of the club’s involved.

Time for club allegiances to be revealed and if it causes an issue, bring in foreign refs.

    Call it out Celtic.

Last post then I have to run

I am a big Gramsci fan, so never underestimate the role of hegemony. But not sure it applies to our Board. But would be happy to hear your thoughts on that later.

  6. Poor article from P67. It looks like Lawwell is pulling his strings again so as not to interrupt the Bonus Thief form his primary objective—— feathering his own nest.

On a flight to London a Masonic cabal of SFA referees we sitting beside me incl Beaton. Beaton is a ned and makes Andrew Dallas looked cultured in comparison.

He is dyed in the wool Hun just like Madden but a little more clever.

Also who was the ref observer at Ibrox ; was it the bigot from Harthill ?

Fleming is setting up tag teams of Huns to deal with Celtic. Lawwell and P67 know it.

Lawwell will be the man responsible for ending our quest for 10 through lying down to SFA/Hun cabal and undermining Brendan in his efforts to strengthen the team.

I can report some good news ; by offloading some high earners he will ensure his beloved financial metrics are met and we can hold aloft the balance sheet at the end of the season ( plus a tidy bonus to boot ).

I will never give that they were the better team. Before 2012 the vast majority of us at least suspected that rules weren’t being fairly applied. The events leading to their death and the propaganda that they are the same club has provided a paper trail that shows beyond doubt we were not paranoid enough. They win? We just weren’t significantly better than them.

  21. So, our Tory board, led by our major shareholder DD, plans to invest in Shamrock Rovers. WTF?

OUR TEAM desperately needs investment in recruiting in several areas if we hope to defend our league title. The Hun is investing in veteran (proven EPL standard) players who will strengthen them enough in the short term in their big push to deny us the league title.

They may well be successful in this endeavour, unless our well heeled leaders GET THE FINGER OUT!

If they don’t this title is seriously under threat; followed by a TV screenful of EMPTY SEATS!

Friend of this site Kenny Clark doing the after dinner circuit dripping I stories about booking Celtic players.

Celtic did not play well but if ever time you do get up the park you are fouled and nothing is given there is never much hope.

Christie on 51 mins and 6 seconds jersey pulled and dragged to ground

Brown kicked to ground on 69 min 44 secs with ref 5 yards behind

71 min 54 secs Ntcham pushed

56 min 22 secs Brown tripped by Morelos off the ball

46 min 05 secs Brown kicked from behind whilst playing the ball back bringing him to the ground.

Lots and lots of these not to mention the forearm smash by Morelos on Christie caught on camera but never mentioned by media or SFA or here?

  26. The principle that a malefactor must be exonerated if those in authority had clear sight of his offence is a new one on me.

Were it extended to the criminal justice system Police Scotland would have carte blanche to overlook a wide spectrum of crime merely because they didn’t like the victims.

    But hey-ho, this is Scotland.

That’s a really shocking statistic, but people don’t seem too concerned.

That’s blatant, in your face feck you Celtic stuff.

Absolutely no chance of 4 out of 4 Celtic friendly refs at the Celtic Park return match. (Mainly because there isn’t 4 Celtic friendly refs.)

It needs highlighted and called out.

Our governing bodies don’t even try to hide it.

‘The principle that a malefactor must be exonerated if those in authority had clear sight of his offence is a new one on me.’

I think the general idea is that the refereeing process work on the same basis as courts in general ie that the best person to evaluate the evidence is the judge who heard or saw it in person, which would be the referee.

So if a referee claims to have seen an incident but didn’t consider it an infringement, then that’s the end of the matter.

If the referee didn’t see an incident they the evidence can be reviewed.

I don’t know if the system has any way of dealing with instances of manifest error or blatant corruption.

What I do know is that Peter Lawwell has been paid a huge bonus for doing his master’s bidding.

My only comfort is that I did not make any contribution towards it.

I feel sorry for the genuine supporters out there for whom Celtic means so much. They deserve better than to have their Club stolen from them by this bunch of self serving charlatans.

So we are not allowed to criticise Paul now? The criticism here is entirely justified; have you read the article?

If the criteria (which you seem to infer) is that we must all agree with the content of Paul’s posts as it’s his blog, then Paul may as well close off the comment section.

  30. I am astonished by Paul’s article today.

    A supine and spineless article.

It’s beyond question that you are the conduit by which the board’s narrative is communicated to the masses and it’s extremely disheartening to read yesterday’s article preparing us for another disappointing window (a new centre half is all we need!) and today’s telling us that “I don’t see a conspiracy in what happened this week, just a referee who was not up to the job”.

We have numerous video compilations now evidencing Beaton’s complete unwillingness to penalise Sevco players for all number of fouls; pictures of Beaton attending a pub following the game- a pub from which one of the “loyal” supports’ clubs bases itself; and now his match report from which it has been disclosed that he saw the incidents (fouls/assaults) but deemed them unworthy of cards or comments to the perpetrators.

And yet, he just wasn’t up to the job?

With friends like you Paul, who needs enemies. Just as the mainstream media dispense information to damage and defame our club; this website promulgates position which are contrary to the success and standing of our club- and amazingly it finds it’s genesis from the directors’ box.

p.s Etims’ article of today highlights that the disciplinary panel can act, notwithstanding the referee’s report.

    LAMBERT14 on 4TH JANUARY 2019 1:04 PM

Rather than putting out Lawwells opinion and letting it be known that he won’t be speaking out, instead, could you give an opinion on whether he should be going public on this?

Could you imagine if it was the other way about?

Do you think Traynor and the King would have stayed silent?

Again, our CEO, who pocketed an obscene amount of money last year and who was pulled up by Auldheid at the AGM for lying to shareholders when stating that the requisitioners were happy with how things were progressing on res 12, has again disgusted the fans by his inaction.

The man is a disgrace and is completely out of his depth.

Never in the history of the club has a person been so financially rewarded for complete mediocrity in performance.

He must wonder how such incompetence as a CEO can yierld such a high salary and bonus.

He has to be removed before our club can push on.

This is what you said after the game against sevco

‘I seldom complain about officiating, but Morelos kicked, punched and stamped on Celtic players off the ball, without caution. I assume referee John Beaton missed each incident but we should see retrospective action.’

I take it Lawwell has told you not to push that any further?

I find myself in total agreement with the two posts above. Yesterday’s article by Paul was designed to soften us up for a low spend transfer window. How anyone can fail to see that all four defensive positions need to be strengthened amazes me and we also need to add to our strikers. That’s at least 5 players and we should be looking to add at least 3 of those 5 to our squad during this window.

What can be said about Beaton and Paul’s total volte face on his performance as highlighted by a Lambert 14 above? It wasn’t incompetence, it was cheating. If he told the refereeing panel that he saw the incidents but didn’t deem them worthy of action then he should have been asked why not and recommended for demotion as a consequence. The 3 (of 4) incidents were highlighted on television during the game and on BBC news last night. Michael Stewart and Chris Sutton have commented on them and everyone who knows anything at all about football in Scotland knows that it was cheating pure and simple. I am astonished by the article. What it tells us is that Peter Lawell will do nothing. He condones our club being cheated.

For me personally, and I suspect many other Celtic supporters, I have a decision to make at the end of the season. I have always suspected that we were being cheated but in days before the internet there was no proof. In the last 6 or 7 years there has been plenty of proof. The Club have not wanted to get involved in pursuing justice on behalf of the Celtic support for commercial reasons. The Beaton Affair may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for me. The Club are willing to accept what he did without complaint even when it was being highlighted and questioned on TV. So my quandary is this: Do I refuse to renew my season ticket because the game of football has been reduced to a farce similar to WWE. There is a total lack of integrity. The authorities are willing to sanction any level of cheating to assist Sevco to return to prominence whether merited or not. Or do I celebrate Celtic winning another League title and possible a third successive Treble and shout from the roof tops that despite the cheating and all the odds stacked against us Celtic prevailed. I’ll give further thought to my position over the coming months but one thing is absolutely certain, I will no longer be patronised by Peter Lawell’s propaganda on CQN. I think you should have a good think about the direction you are taking CQN in, Paul.

I wish the blog well for the future. I’m off.
