BECK IN THE FRAME

CELTIC are stepping up their urgent bid for a new left-back as cover for Greg Taylor.

Brendan Rodgers has no experienced deputy for the Scotland international and Liverpool No.3 Owen Beck is on the Hoops manager’s radar for a second time.

The Welsh Under-21 defender caught the gaffer’s eye during his impressive loan stint at Dundee in the first half of last season.

He was recalled to Anfield at the turn of the year and was linked with the champions, but a seven-minute cameo appearance for his parent club against Bournemouth scuppered any chance of a deal.

Under FIFA regulations, no player can play for three clubs in the same season and Beck was free to resume his temporary switch to Dens Park for the remainder of the campaign.

Rodgers allowed £3.75million Argentinian misfit Alexandro Bernabei to go to Brazilian club SC Internacional in March for the remainder of the year.

The Irishman was also linked with Hugo Bueno and Sergio Gomez in January, but Wolves and Manchester City refused to anction temorary switches for their full-backs.

Bueno has now joined Feyenoord on a season-long loan while Gomez has signed a five-year deal with Real Sociedad following a £7.6million deal.

Beck has come back into focus for Rodgers and it looks as though new Merseyside manager Arne Slot will listen to offers for the 22-year-old left-sided operator with Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers also monitoring the situation.

Middlesbrough had been keen, but have now dropped out of any potential auction.
