Being competitive and disinclined against Bayern

362

History makers on Saturday but Brendan Rodgers and his players will have nothing but tomorrow’s game against Bayern Munich on their minds today. In truth, the 100-year-old 62 game unbeaten run achieved by Willie Maley’s team looked like it was equalled despite minds being focussed on Champions League duty.

While there was no shame in losing 3-0 in Munich two weeks ago, Celtic were poor. It was not until Bayern achieved their objectives Celtic players looked less intimidated. We were unpicked repeatedly in defence while we retreated under the merest pressing from Bayern.

A win tomorrow is not beyond Celtic, but win or lose, we have to learn how to compete against teams of this level. We have endured harsh lessons against Barcelona and PSG over the last 13 months. Progress would not necessarily mean repeating the kind of remarkable 2-1 victory we got over Barcelona five years ago, being competitive in the game and defending with discipline would be a start.

  1. I changed my phone last weekend and, disaster of disasters, I no linger have ACGR’s Champions League ringtone. If anyone can send the link for it to me at jobobaldie@yahoo.com I’d be even happier, if that’s actually possible.

On days such as today I always like readjusting the phone volume at regular intervals. The looks on the non-handsome-ones faces…..

  2. OK Ghuys, Quick post before I hit the road. My turn to drive so first it’s off to Dublin in the Green, plane to Edinburgh, bus to Glasgow & Shank’s Mare or walking if you prefer to the Blane Valley before floating through the Gallowgate out to Paradise. or if Glasgow weather intervenes you could change floating to swimming or sailing.

Anyhow I’m off so see some of ye later.

Corkcelt , safe journey . Rain is forecast for most of today unfortunately.

With regard to John Brown, a colleague’s son used to play for Clyde when Brown was their manager.

I was told by them Brown was was a real bully , their son was petrified of him. The son had to get stitches input when Brown had one of his rages, grabbed the boy a threw him against a wall in the dressing room. He hit the wall that hard , he split open on of his cheeks .

My colleague was wanting Brown charged but their son dissuaded her from doing so.

The son gave up his football career shortly after that incident, one of the reasons fr doing so was Brown’s behaviour.

  4. Forgive me if someone has asked this recently but, what’s the story with Jozo Simunovic and Eric Sviatchenko injury wise?

  5. Looking forward to a big night at Celtic Park. Hope all the BM fans receive a big welcome at the stadium and in the city. After that, I hope for one of those extraordinary European nights when we overcome all the odds.

Big PL gets stick on here often, today I want to say thanks for getting young KT signed up for the next six years.

That’s the third contract KT has signed since 2014. For 4 then 5 and now 6 years. By my reckoning, that takes him through till 2029(!)

Like you, praise where it’s due. PL has done well in the last six months alone in tying down a good bit of our squad.

Griff next, please. And hopefully TR too.

  11. Dallas- when Bummer Broon was Clyde manager, he would spend most of the game arguing with punters in the stand , appalled at his style of ‘anti football’, asking individuals for a ‘square go’ on a weekly basis. An embarassing clown of a hun.

  12. 3hours to go before I get my flight to Glasgow looking forward to seeing friends and fellow posters prematch, got a good feeling about tonight a wee punt on 2-1 to the good ghuys. Hail Hail Hebcelt

    ………………….

The story of Browns conduct certainly doesn’t surprise me.

As for Browns ” abilities” as a player ( and of course most Hun fans would disagree ?) his Limitations that knew would be exposed, he attempted to play to the WATP mob at Ipox.

It shouldn’t be forgotten, that when with Dundee FC…he was more or less ” A Big fish in a very very small pond”. After joining the Huns it is fair to say that he played amongst many very good players…Laudrup, Gasquiogne etc ?

IMO…At my peak fitness in my younger days, and with the football ability that I had , maybe I could have looked not too bad playing alongside much better players than me.

With Browns career at Ipox ( like many others there who were no better than average)…that mob enjoyed ALL the dubious decision making by officials….and don’t get me started on their EBT’s etc

in recent weeks we have witnessed ( yet again) the Hun support going mental whenever the opposition score against them and then having the audiacity to celebrate ?

During one of his Hun years v Aberdeen at Ipox …the Huns scored…and Aberdeen were in great danger of being relegated that season….Brown played to the Hun gallery that day by gesturing that Aberdeen were “going down” with his Caeser like “thumbs down”, right in front of the Aberdeen players etc.

Oh how the Huns took Brown to their hearts especially after doing that gesture that day…for some time there was an excellent photo of Browns unsportsmanship with that gesture that day.

My God…I would love to have been an Aberdeen player that day…and boot Brown all over the feckin gaff.

The other point in the above tale of his behaviour during that game is that Brown had NO thought whatsoever for his fellow professionals futures, and that perhaps of other Aberdeen staff which Relegation would bring to that club .

And yet…we have Chumps like Brown on the steps of Ipox lecturing the peepil about how EVERYONE hates them and how everyone wants to see the Huns demise etc etc…..FFS…Yet again Double Standards have always applied to that Huns mobs players, staff and support…and their brothers at the SFA etc.

Most of us will be aware of how they banned “Pepperami” and “Eggs Benedict” etc from Ipox and more recently banning Green boots etc etc. i watched a very brief video on youtube yesterday with ex Hun player Nigel Spackman and that other Chump Andy feckin Gray. they were all having a right good laugh about how they hated ANYTHING Green etc.

Spackman told the story of how one match day after light training they returned to Ipox to prepare for that days game and the Groundsman was on their pitch cutting the grass. The groundsman whilst cutting the grass was forced to move some tv cable etc from the pitch…no bother….but he REFUSED to even touch a GREEN Cable and cut the feckin grass around it !

Many years ago I walked into a bar with a Green Top/T Shirt on…nothing about Celtic on it and I was refused service. I asked why ?

“Cos of your Green Top mate ” was the reply.

I quickly pointed out that I was wearing BLUE feckin denims and doen’t that then make me a “Ranjurs Man” …and why are you prepared to serve me when I am wearing BLUE feckin denims” ?

the Chump behind the bar was feckin stumped for an answer…….and none too happy when I told him where he could stick his feckin beer as I walked out !

As we have all witnessed over the years many strange and wonderful can happen in football…especially when we watch The Celts.

It would NOT surprise me at all for young KT to rattle one into the Bayern net tonight right in line with his new contract that Celtic Warrior must be HIGH as a kite today…and dear old paradise is rocked to the core ?

  24. So, Brendan, what will it be tonight ?

Another CL boot in the baws, as you try to impose your, Scottish pub team, one horse race Invincibles philosophy, onto the CL galacticos of Bayern ?

    Or,…….

Will it be the, anti Celtic Way tactics that, NFL imposed upon the CL galacticos of, Barcelona, Benfica ? and, Spartak Moscow, which enabled NFL to secure, 4 CL group game victories, back in the day.

Ye see, sometimes ye jist hiv tae git over yerself, and git the bus parked.

Bada Bing at 9.12am, that does not surprise me about ra Bomber. Never one for diplomacy. I sww him on the East Kilbride train a few weeks ago, he got off at Hairmyres. He was dressed like a country gent with his tweed jacket and waistcoat along wih the obligatory brown brogues.

Big Jimmy, Brown had a kick at his former Dundee team mate, Tommy Coynne when Tommy slid in to score our winner in a Scottish cup game at Celtic Park in 1990.

Brown , before a game against us at Celtic Park , was warming up in front of the jungle . As he ran past , he was making a bj gesture with his mouth at us.

  29. from Daily rectum,

Rangers haven’t agreed a pay-off with Pedro Caixinha says agent Nuno Batista

Four Mexican clubs want the former Ibrox gaffer but no deal can be done until he reaches an agreement with Rangers.
