St Mirren, who Celtic play in our opening Premiership fixture two weeks on Sunday, do not have the luxury of preseason friendlies against top European opponents, but they will have four competitive League Cup games under their belt as well as three friendlies before they arrive at Celtic Park.
Celtic have one fewer game, but the considerable benefit that tomorrow, we will be tested against Newcastle United, St Mirren have to hope that Annan Athletic are suitable preparation.
Preseason is not about the results, or even the performance. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s memorable first season was prefaced by a 2-6 home drubbing by West Ham. The objective is to elevate player fitness and work on tactics. It is a time for risks without consequence, and gives us a chance for an early look at the new arrivals. I would take another drubbing tomorrow if it better prepared us for the challenges next month.

R.I.P.
DeniaBhoy @ 7:22 am,
Thanks 👍
JackieMac,
Always a tough one without the stats – Broony had an engine on him – Daizen is a machine.
Yet Calmac is a phenomenon, must have played more game time than most on the preseason and hit the ground running after the break.
At his age – quite a feat.
Hail Hail

It was actually 1-5, I mentioned it yesterday in greater detail in an effort to stop all the sniping

Thanks , I should have looked it up. I think it was my last friendly, the memory fades.
People getting credited with things that they had nothing to do with? Surely that doesn’t happen on this site……

The new signings on show yesterday.
Inamra,is playing with a hat and coat on,smoking a Cigar.Ice cool, never flustered. At the moment looks like the steal of the century.
Nygren.Looks like another brilliant signing. The hype about him,all true.
Kenny.Looks like a manager to opponents.Constantly on the move,coming short,running in behind.First touch,sometimes wonderful,lay offs,others,just off,but a wee bit of fine tuning.He has big talent.
All have shown up brilliantly. Will only get better.
We could all see that KT has lost none of what we loved him for.
Yamaha will be interesting. So far,for the money, the scouting has been exceptional.
Manager should read menace.
Great summation TB.
The new ‘in’s look very encouraging indeed.
Our best hopes are just as likely to come true as our worst fears !
While I wasn’t keen on going to the game yesterday, the one really good thing was the number of weans who were there, many I’m sure for the first time. There were way more around me than adults. Among the adults too, there were many more women proportionally than there would be at a regular game.
The football wasn’t too bad either….
By the bye, when did we ever wear a purple jersey? Chap in front of me was sporting it. Never seen that before.
Some short memories.See a few posters saying,”The last time we scored 4 against the English in pre season was in 1966.
Last year we scored 4 against Man City, and 4 against Chelse. All 3 among the richest, and CL participants.
It always important to remember to include a bit of context.
In December KT was just back from 5 months out with a hamstring tear, he hadnt had any first team football for six months, he had a poor record with injuries and a disappointing season in Spain. He hadnt proved he was able to stay fit for any lengthy of time yet. I remember the consensus being that there were risks with the signing, doubts about how much football we’d see him play and how Brendan would need to manage him carefully.
I’d have signed him but with the understanding that there would be some serious mitigation planning which would need to include development players and not Greg Taylor. And I would have understood the worries someone might have about committing a lot of the clubs money to a player with KTs injury record.
Morning all.
Fittest ever Celtic player?
Bobby Lennox for me, followed by John Collins.
“Manager should read menace.”
Inamra should read Inamura.
Yamaha should read Yamada.
But I’m sure the phone will get the blame.😂
BRB & co cheers for the advice the other day I think we managed about 10 pubs and then I nipped into to a couple of my locals on the way home we are a shower of greedy drinkers.
🤣
Turkeybhoy @ 10:32
A good summary of our newer boys – agreed.
My biggest impression from the game was Maeda’s performance (among many god ones).
Daizen was a thorn in their side and played with ice in his veins – he is ON IT! I really hope he doesn’t leave this season because I feel he’s about to have his best one ever.
To Paul’s leader – it would be a stretch to say NUFC stretched Celtic yesterday we looked like a side further into their preseason and were comfortable throughout.
Got a half of the Sporting and Newcastle games , from the telly it looks as though we are more prepared to pass to a midfielder who is marked , who in turn lays the ball off. Our build up from the back looked pretty decent.
Interesting to see if this pans out in league games , playing against packed defences and midfield
HH
Larsson as fit as any of them,he could close down a back 4 on his own, perpetual motion
Looking forward to this….
Inamra takes a pass from keeper Sinaloa plays the ball forward to Hetate who plays it out to Meada and he crosses it in to Yamaha who slots it into the net…3-0 now to Ciltec following goals from Arne Angles and McGowan.
Really good to get another win, especially against an EPL side. Notice there is little mention of it on national Tv, funny that.
Brings me to the point. I’ve said before, I’ve been around sinnce Donald Duck was an egg.
Today, I’ve noticed everything is bigged up everywhere, EG, Taylor Swift the best singer , EVER, really !!
EPL is the best league in the world, really “”
Womans football the the absolute bollox, really !!
all that merde is in your face 24/7, so after all that the mugs believe it.
Just wish people would start thinking for themselves instead of being led by the nose
KINGLuBO
PCS, sounds like the Barkas goalie top, I own one for some reason!
Chairbhoy earlier …
“Yet the narrative from the agenda merchants back in 2019 was – KT did not get on with Brendan Rodgers, Brendan Rodgers was responsible for playing KT injured and causing long term damage”
Genuinely, CB – this narrative is new to me.
Time flies. Is it really 6 years since he left?
Was sad at that the time but thought he’d push on
(And £25m softened the blow)
KT has pushed on in his career but not as much as I had expected.
That said – he is a great player, the glimpses so far show that including the exquisite assist for the 4th goal yesterday.
Am glad he’s our player.
The decibel level inside Paradise was cranked up just a few moments later when Hayato Inamura, who had delivered an impressive performance. made way for Kieran Tierney, who entered the pitch to a standing ovation from the Celtic Park faithful, who were delighted to see one of their own back at Paradise.
a fanfare.
A wee bit of ground history

Yamada will motor will a Yamaha, as did the buzz bomb. Bobby Lennox was a brilliant footballer and a goal machine. I’ve often thought of him in comparison to Maeda, in terms of movement on the park. Though I do think we will see a bid for Maeda.
Caught up with an Aberdeen supporting acquaintance after Mass today.
Hadn’t spoken to him in ages.
Exchanged warm how are ye? messages then, without missing a beat he said
“I haven’t had a chance to congratulate you (pause for my blank look) …
… on winning the double !”
😆😆😆😆😆😆
Have we already saw enough of Inamura to say that he should not be loaned out? Yes from me. Don’t think he’s played much at left back but surely we can develop him as a LB and maybe also CB, with him being part of the squad. I think I’ve already saw enough that he’d be an asset for most of our home games from an attacking perspective.
I w9nder if Eddie Who had to put his pampers on coming to big bad Glasgow.
Maybe passed them to his team as we humilitated them.
Seriously, I know what friendlies are about, but nobody wants to get a morale sapping defeat in front of a huge travelling support.
It could be argued that WE had a second team out.
I also feel that with a wee bit of boldness, aggression and a few players we can do better in European football.
I feel under BR et al we respect teams but are definitely not overwhelmed.
HH, the journey continues.
Ziggy- he’s confident, passes the ball quickly, plays with his head up,a 1st team squad player no doubt for me
I’m not sure what can be drawn from preseason games, although, it’s always nice to beat the English sides.
Players, I think, are far more likely to be assessed and judged during these weeks of double sessions than perhaps by what they do in preseason games.
New bhoy Sien putting in some extra training 🏊♂️

IS THAT SALTCOATS ?
What a waste of a day out, come up from Newcastle get well beat and end up in dumps like the Bristol bar or the Louden 🫣🙄
I was surrounded by families at yesterday’s game. It looked very much like those fans who exercised their right not to pay for a friendly which should have been on their season ticket provided to opportunity for loads of young families to snap up the available tickets and have a day out at the game. Most of these families were resplendent in their Celtic gear too. The fans of the future when the oldies like myself can no longer attend.
It also meant that our support were on our best behaviour and didn’t get caught up in tit-for-tat chanting with the hard-of-thinking Geordies. Instead there were a lot of cheers for Celtic players and goals and even some boos when our players were wrestled to the ground in a last ditch attempt at preventing another goal. A funny moment for me was when groups of the Toon Army began to leave around 75 minutes after Liam bulleted in our 4th goal with a great header. All the Celtic fans began to wave cheerio to them including the youngsters.
A great day out and a great performance by both Celtic teams. I’m glad I made the effort to go along after having doubts. Has anyone seen any attendance figures? My own guess would be 35000 to 40000.
Must be Seamill along the road 😀😀😀
