Being stretched preseason is often a good thing

565

St Mirren, who Celtic play in our opening Premiership fixture two weeks on Sunday, do not have the luxury of preseason friendlies against top European opponents, but they will have four competitive League Cup games under their belt as well as three friendlies before they arrive at Celtic Park.

Celtic have one fewer game, but the considerable benefit that tomorrow, we will be tested against Newcastle United, St Mirren have to hope that Annan Athletic are suitable preparation.

Preseason is not about the results, or even the performance.  Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s memorable first season was prefaced by a 2-6 home drubbing by West Ham.  The objective is to elevate player fitness and work on tactics.  It is a time for risks without consequence, and gives us a chance for an early look at the new arrivals.  I would take another drubbing tomorrow if it better prepared us for the challenges next month.

Back in the 90s I was a regular at Newcastle games. I was regularly picked up for wearing anything Celtic related. The badge sellers did a roaring trade in Newcastle/hun memorabilia.

Like most English stadiums, with Burnley and Blackburn being the worst, I wasn’t welcome.

  2. “Who’s Sorry Now?”

Probably quite a lot of people on here

Not to be confused with the Indian version….

    “Whose Sari Now?”

    Either way…..

    RIP Connie Francis

Bridge Street, the Laurieston Bar. A great Glasgow pub. Hillhead, Aragon. Kelvinhall the Dolphin, Three Judges. Avoid Cessnock and Copland Road.

  8. My spelling of `wasn`t` suggests I have spent the afternoon in those two establishments :-))

Many more great pubs at St Enoch and Buchanan Street. Cowcaddens Molly Malones, etc.

  10. Newcastle is a backwater city with few employment prospects and is a prime recruitment ground for armed forces. There are many Brits along their support. Their experience in uniform in the North of Ireland have made them hostile to our club and it’s support. They are brash and loud and will be built up by random Huns. Do not engage.Avoid or else a dark place awaits

  11. Good evening from Centre Parcs in Woburn- absolutely sweltering here. It’s the annual Christmas outing for the family. Twelve happyTims.

I’ve booked a surprise 6 days in Marrakech for Mrs Gene’s birthday in October, as she’s always fancied going.

  12. Buying a UK subscription doesn’t provide live games abroad. You’d need an international subscription for that. How to make watching games easy fur dummies. Tf, we’re on the ball in providing the players we and our manager wants.

Stunning PR from Celtic having problems getting players in the door? – with a steady flow out. Have a new photoshoot, emails and texts, for an ex player we signed weeks ago on a Bosman, and whom we knew last season had signed a pre contract.

Sell the only home friendly to the supporters that they know are patching it in their thousands and then stick it on CelticTV, for double the price, – that’ll learn them. Pay a private Celtic friendly company to run a fan survey and when they’ve done, – kick it down the road. Sell your best striker in January, have seven months and still don’t replace him. Sell your star winger for obscene profit, and recall the 2023 giveaways.

On PPV now as well because they’re not selling enough Celtic tv subscriptions?

    Got to admire their necks.

  15. All the scum bars have issued invites.City Centre and Duke St will be crawling with them.

    Be careful.

  16. Whoever plans the pre-season friendlies must really hate our supporters , Newcastle tomorrow , next up Ajax away , always been a nice friendly excursion …🙄

Wouldn’t be surprised if the brains who organises these pre-season friendlies has Racing Club,Athletico Madrid and Sevco pencilled in for next year at Windsor Park.

My recollection – which I’ve just Googled and checked – was that in the North East, NUFC was always a hun union mob, and Sunderland very much more socialist and pro-Catholic city and club. Boro similar to Sunderland.

Might have got to know this from when oor Derek Whyte went to Boro, or from an ex-girlfriend’s boss Ian who was a big Sunderland fan.

    Stay safe attendees.

Don’t care what anyone things of us celtic supporters, it’s easy to call us terrorist lovers because of our collective culture and dismissal of colonialism. if Germany won the war, took over England, stopped the english from owning land, removed them from their land, displaced them, starved them and murder them on an industrial scale they would resistant.

It the germans then, after generations of said rule, partitioned the country in two, remained in one part of it where thier subjegated the english to no civil rights and second class status whilst treating the germans as 1st class citizens with ultamate rights they would fight back.

Under those circumstances German rule in england would have as much legitimacy as English rule in Ireland. Most who hate celtic supporters based on their values and beliefs are hypocrites because if the shoe was on the other foot they would do exactly the same things.

In fact i am sure Churchill had already put together a resistance network to respond to such an eventuality which would not be disimiliar to the resistants witnessed in ireland.

Any support aligning themselves with sevco based on the shared waving british flags need to consider, does waving of the same flag mean shared identity and values? The answer is yes, if yoy are in favour of colonialism, expansinism, oppression, apartied, racism, supremisy because that is what the flag waving is over sevcinia way. The we are the people slogan is not about pride.

Celtic supporters are free thinkers not hard of thinking.
