St Mirren, who Celtic play in our opening Premiership fixture two weeks on Sunday, do not have the luxury of preseason friendlies against top European opponents, but they will have four competitive League Cup games under their belt as well as three friendlies before they arrive at Celtic Park.
Celtic have one fewer game, but the considerable benefit that tomorrow, we will be tested against Newcastle United, St Mirren have to hope that Annan Athletic are suitable preparation.
Preseason is not about the results, or even the performance. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s memorable first season was prefaced by a 2-6 home drubbing by West Ham. The objective is to elevate player fitness and work on tactics. It is a time for risks without consequence, and gives us a chance for an early look at the new arrivals. I would take another drubbing tomorrow if it better prepared us for the challenges next month.

Your average Geordie is a very well balanced person – a chip on each shoulder.
Or a full fish supper
Scotsmen wi their heids bashed in
Not too bad from less than our strongest team so far.
Sorry for the out of touch query but why is Johnstone not in the squad?
Yang, AR, good play
Trusty strong tackle, yellow
Was late, fair enough
Trusty another good block
Was the NU player yellow carded at the penalty?
Maeda poor cross
Then Maeda 1 on 1 but offside
Ref ?

I think those playing internationals reported back to preseason later
Scottish referees the obstacle to a fair friendly here.
Decent game
Oh Kenny what a chance
big sitter from kenny
Yang cut back, Kenny just has to pass that in it spins off his boot. Sitter
Great pace and touch by Yang there.
Left click – thanks.
Great ball in from Yang to Kenny there; should have done better but he allowed the goalie to distract (good goalkeeping).
Hopefully not going to curse him, but Inamoura’s passing is accurate and crisp.
AR sore one, corner
Trusty back to clear after KS can’t get to ball. Corner
Texas Tim. 100%. Should be 2.
Sweet 2-0
2!!!!
hahahaha
Johnny does not miss that one. 😂😂
Pope totally misjudges long KS kick out, leaves Kenny to tap it in behind him
Read all about it – Pope gifts Celtic a goal.
