St Mirren, who Celtic play in our opening Premiership fixture two weeks on Sunday, do not have the luxury of preseason friendlies against top European opponents, but they will have four competitive League Cup games under their belt as well as three friendlies before they arrive at Celtic Park.
Celtic have one fewer game, but the considerable benefit that tomorrow, we will be tested against Newcastle United, St Mirren have to hope that Annan Athletic are suitable preparation.
Preseason is not about the results, or even the performance. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s memorable first season was prefaced by a 2-6 home drubbing by West Ham. The objective is to elevate player fitness and work on tactics. It is a time for risks without consequence, and gives us a chance for an early look at the new arrivals. I would take another drubbing tomorrow if it better prepared us for the challenges next month.

No manager and no team likes being hammered, Friendly or not.
Well done Celtic. Looking good.
Hail hail.
Thoroughly deserved win . We’ve totally rediscovered our intensity after the flat ending to last season . The young players also fit seamlessly into our system and that’s why they’re putting in such impressive performances. The coaching staff are doing a great job .
Yon AIPPLE is a lucky mascot
The fact that Trusty is a right footer (am sure he is, yes??) played so well at left centre half today was good to see
Even better, he didnt have to nurse young Dane Murray throught the game
Dane Murray put in a performance good enough to allow Trusty to concentrate on playing left centre back
So much so that Trusty got the MOTM
Well played to them both
Who was the referee
Timforlife
A hun….cant remember his name
Nick Walsh
Fitness and conditioning is like nothing you have seen at Celtic,we need to keep Brendan, we won’t get anyone better
The Como Cup for a Treble before the season has started
thought out centre forward in the first half performed better that his more expensive replacement in the second who would struggle to control a bag of cement.

also Trusty who I have criticised many a time , fully deserved his MOM award today , excellent defending.
Next week we have Como and Ajax. 2 loads of horrible fans. We shut them up today. Here’s hoping we shut them about
Brendan lifts another Trophy.
So good, we unveiled him twice and upgrade Kieran Tierney’s cross, made it a great day for the Irish. An assist from the holy goalie Pope, let Johnny Kenny stroke home goal two, after young Arne Engels was fouled in the box, but stroked in the opener. Yangs goal was bettered when Scales weighed in with a thumping header.
Celtic beginning to look like a squad that’s coming out the other end of intense pre season, as fit as butchers dugs. Reminiscent of last season in the USA trip Newcastle were this years Chelsea, much to delight of the home support, and the silenced Geordie fanatics who shuffled away.
MOM Auston Trusty
Looking very good for the start to the new season. The sharpness was there, players competing for starts, new arrivals fitting in well.
Trusty and Yang would both have given Brendan food for thought, Inamoto looks like something a bit different at left back, KT instantly makes our team much better. We look like having more strength in depth in midfield with Nygren.

Idah did well today
Can’t see why you would comment that, based on todays performance
St Stivs
Don’t forget we also won Glastonbury.
Great game….thought we were brilliant.. both squads.
I also thought Idah did well, worked hard and did some good work against good defenders
Need to be careful who we loan out,Kenny, Inamura……? Both done well today,I know it’s a friendly….long season with a lot of games

So Brendan is strength and conditioning coach now too. Wow. No end to this man’s areas of expertise.
Fitness and Conditioning
Idah can look a bit lethargic at times in contrast to John Kenny’s all action style . BR wants to see intensity in the team and I thought Idah looked a bit more lively today , possibly after Brendan’s criticism of him following the last game.
The ref was Nick Walsh.

No there isn’t as far as preparation for a squad, didn’t take long for your anti Brendan alarm to go off…..or you would prefer a manager from not many years ago, getting poured out a car at Lennoxtown, at half 10 in the morning for training? I know who I prefer.Keep trying, is your business contract with Lawwell and Co up for renewal soon?
We still need a clear number one striker. I thought both Kenny and Idah did well and have different qualities. Neither would be ahead of Kyogo unless they can improve

SPOT ON BADA.
BURNLEY78
Brendan wants the team to play with power ,pace and intensity and these qualities have been evident in the last two games . Doesn’t really matter which member/s of the coaching staff are responsible for providing the fitness levels the manager wants , surely ?

Start of our European cup winning season
Murray, Inamura, Trusty, Hatate. Good showing. Squad looking good.
against sporting lisbon and newcastle it looked like we are starting at a level above last year
I hope we can bring in players that can help us over the 3 domestic and one eiropean campaign
Particularly looking at how we stalled lastbseason after late champions league games
However, we are looking well just now
Notices that we have played more than a few long balls from defence….
Had a look at a NU forum – we beat a reserve team apparently.
Eddie who?? and his backroom team can do one
Glen D- no compliments for Brendan please…..
