I like Alex Ferguson. He likes his football and cannot hide the respect in which he holds Jock Stein and the great Celtic team of the 60s and 70s. Like you and I, Alex is immersed in the history of the game here, a history he contributed significantly to at Aberdeen.
So, when questioned by the Daily Record on the potential shuttering of Hampden, his overwhelming reaction was for the loss of history:
“… leaving your history behind you
“You’re throwing away all that fantastic history
“history you are throwing away
“That’s a fantastic history
“history has been formed
“The history of Hampden is riddled with fantastic games
“We need history to tell us where we’re going”
No football fans are more immersed in history than Celtic fans, it sustained us through many a dark day, so these words will resonate with you. But fear not, there is a solution!
They can raze Hamden to the ground and have another venue BUY THE HISTORY! Why didn’t this occur to such a great mind? Buying history is a fairly straightforward issue in Scotland. I now own the Crimean War, which I purchased from a guy in Edinburgh last week.
The same vendor was selling the Renaissance, which I would love to own, as I would really like to have painted the Sistine Chapel in the 16th century, but he was wanting £1000 for that, and an internal voice told me I was being taken for a brainless clown.

Delaney’s , I know where you are coming from.
My biggest musical regret was not going to see Bob Marley at the Apollo in 1980 as the tickets were a fiver . Huge , huge mistake.
Those I knew who went to it still talk about it to this day. He was on stage for over 3 hours , I believe.

Big Packy,
If you’re born a West of Scotland Catholic of a certain age, you would have learned Bring Flowers of the Rarest at your mother’s knee, along with Guardian Angel.

ThomtheTim,
Apologies for spelling your name wrong and slighting your fine airstrip . Smiley thing.
Your link failed for me but I did Google just to see what you meant and it is scenic indeed my good man.
The whole county is.
However it’s beauty was never in question,,the facilities to accompany that beauty fell a wee bit behind the norm however but I’m sure they’ve improved in the 15 or so years since so yes apologies indeed.
When next I’m in your vicinity,,I’ll get revenge on that bassa guarda from culdaff and hide out in yours?
Love your area really do. Family in Crawley though they have since passed and spent summer of 87 learning my tongue in Loch an Iuir. Great times.
Hope you’re well.
A happy and holy Easter to all here.
Oh and 3 points tomorrow.

I fall into that category but until I moved to England and took my own children to Mass in May I can’t remember ever singing it. But it might just be my memory.
PARKHEADCUMSALFORD ,yes just could not remember the name of it, sung it many times.
TTT,
Forgot to mention,,if put on the spot and asked what was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had it’s probably the old Donegal town chipper. Was a haddock not cod,,and even the memory is tasty.
In an abundance of water,

Gene,
I think we mostly sang it in class during May.
Big Packy,
And I’m sure it still brings a tear to your eye. It’s part of who we are.

Indeed I am well, thanks.
Donegal is the forgotten county of Ireland, particularly the North West.
No major road links.
No rail links and if it wasn’t for the entrepreneurship of local men in the 60’s, we would have no National bus service.
We are therefore very proud of our Airport, which was hard fought for and even harder to retain, in the face of jealous burghers of a nearby town, which is 30 minutes from Derry, which has an airport and rail link.
I know your post was made in fun and no harm meant.
However, to ones who don’t know the area, it could be misconstrued as bad mouthing. I repeat that I know it wasn’t your intention.
Before we got the terminal building and the extended runway, it had to be shown that the routes were viable.
If you compare regional airports around the world, I don’t think Donegal would fare too badly.
Ach, you’ll have to come and see it for yourself.
Now away ye go and try and wind up somebody else, as I’m in a good mood today! : > )
Thomthetim
Have to agree about Donegal, spent many a happy school summer holiday at my in laws in Ramelton and surrounding areas. Indeed, Clydebank back in the day, Whitecrook in particular, was Donegal Central during 60s, 70s and 80s.
SAN LUIS on 30TH MARCH 2018 5:16 PM
Ramelton and surrounding areas is beautiful, but I reckon that the real, rugged beauty is to be found, as it is in Scotland, along the coastline.
However, Donegal’s beauty is more than skin deep. It is in the culture and the people.
Another side article by an EBT recipient, McCann this time…….
Back in Glasgow, been to the Good Friday service in St Leo‘s, watched the very moving video about the Stigmata, just need to get the flat ready for No.2 daughter coming then I’m all set for tomorrow – 13:00 at Coias with the good Ghuys as opposed to the Goodfellas ?

Half of Dalmuir is from Ramelton. Most of them are Gallagher or Gallacher.
Whitecrook more so.
Clydebank is Green and White.

My family here are McLaughlin fae Ramelton.
Donegal has some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. The people are brilliant and amongst the friendliest you will ever come across. I remember the Garda coming into the pub after closing and all the locals drinking up to leave. Me and Mrs PMTYH were about to do the same when we were informed that it didn’t apply to us and we were welcome to stay ????
ThomtheTim,
I actually had no idea of all that so thanks and there’s a lesson in there for me.
Think before you judge?
When I do get home I try to jaunt away somewhere ,,
Was Spiddal in August there,,Soo nice. Tullamore before that were I marched in the Irish National Forresters annual parade under the Henry Joy Mc Cracken branch banner.
Conn of the hundred battles was the host banner and it was a cracker.
I’ve photies of it should you wish. Tullamore was half Polish I noted.
The hotel gave us a dinner with our stay.
There was a fish and chip on the dinner and a steak for a 5 Euro surcharge.
2 in the crowd got fish and chips and two ordered steak.
The fish and chips were frozen in the very middle but the gents ate around it and pushed the middle to the side.
The waitress then announced there would be no surcharge for the steaks in return which resulted in much friendly hey you owe me a pint. On principle the 2 fellow s who ate the steak refused to buy them a pint each as they had done nothing wrong. Was all friendly but I must say the waitress was far from correct in her problem solving skills I believe.
Old Donegal town 2 years ago where the finest fish and chips are served. Roads were rough though.
Be a while before I’m back as a new arrival due and the family are coming out here this time.
Suits me and besides they go nuts for Vegas. Just drive them there and they are happy. Kids in a toy store.
Although last time I was there maybe 6 months back they had stopped the free drinks when you’re gambling lark unless you were betting decent. My 20 bucks in the machine didn’t get me a free beer for the first time so it’s Reno now mostly where they happily ply you with whatever you need.
Thanks for the info and enjoy the rest of your day

Cheers and good luck with the new arrival.
Funnily enough, sometimes when you live in a place, you don’t actually fully appreciate where you are.
In articulating my thoughts to you, it was akin to seeing the place through the eyes of a visitor…which I first was over 50 years ago.
So thank you for getting me to stop and fully appreciate how lucky I am.
