Belgians premature

1296

The Belgian league put the cat amongst the waffles yesterday by declaring the Jupiler League over and Bruges champions.  They sorted out their TV and other commercial arrangements and can start next season as soon as it is safe to do so.

There are very few calls to cut seasons short.  Tight leagues, such as in Italy and Spain, would forever  have questions hanging over them, while those assured of winning the title, as in Scotland and England, want to do so on the field, not at a league meeting.  Still, it was nice to see panic among the Null and Voiders, who would rather everyone lost than anyone (Celtic) won.

The Belgians have been pragmatic but premature, football is finished for the season, their champions are assured without controversy and they will accommodate those threatened with relegation.  The rest of Europe still clings to the hope that competition can start behind closed doors in the summer.  It will next month before we know if this is possible, there is no reason to make decisions before then.

    Fairhill Bhoy,

    :-)

To be fair very rarely were they good games, usually too busy trying to “do” each other, despite the fact there were some good players on both teams.

My most memorable moment is still playing down in the pitch in the “valley” and there were, as usual quite a few locals watching. More than a few of whom were either steamin or on the way to getting there.

Mind 4 of them ended arguing over who was going to smash one of our players after the game and ended up arguing with each other. Cue 3 of them getting on at one guy, who then punched another, to which he was bottled by one of the other two! Head split like a ripe melon.

end of the game he was back and sitting bevvying with the other 3 as if nothing happened….apart from the bandage wrapped round his napper!! :-)

  10. Angel Gabrial,

nothing would surprise me just now,

canny see the SPFL being in any rush

    to make a decision.

Could be UEFA will have to look at changing their

tournaments if countries are not in a position

    to nominate teams.
