Benfica arrive after 3 competitive games

767

Benfica will arrive in Glasgow tomorrow without having played a competitive game since 2 September, when they thumped Nacional 3-0 in Lisbon.  They arranged a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday in an attempt to prepare them for this week’s Champions League challenge but the lack of meaningful football is less than ideal, especially at a time when clubs are looking to build sharpness.

Celtic were idle for two weeks before Saturday but have played nine competitive games this season compared to Benfica’s three.  They also have the benefit of not having to sacrifice a day’s preparation to travel.

Fitness late in the game, perhaps accentuated by the use of substitutes, could be crucial.  Celtic’s best chance of winning this one will come in the second half. Run the lungs out of them, Celtic.

  1. Really looking forward to hearing the Champions league anthem drowned out by 55000 tims.

Looking back WGS gave us some magic CL nights. In a lot of ways his time as manager was way undervalued by a lot if us, me included , in pursuit of playing the Celtic way .

Really impressed by WGS on tv , always sticks up for us in the face of English condescension , he really has become a Celtic fan.

I am sure that my Lukewarm attitude toward him was a fall out from the magical Martin years. Bitterly regret that now.

    WGS thanks for the memories!

  3. ScotPatsFan-The Sunday Mail done a number on the guy who owns that car last week i’m sure, from Bothwell area ,allegedly.

  4. I think Ed U stopped posting here partly because of the abuse from those people here who generally seem to dispense it most of the time

However, I think he also said he had other commitments which precluded him from going on the net as much as he used to.

  5. ASonofDan mentioned Ticketus on the previous page.

I’ve yet to hear the rationale as to why they lent Craigy boy the money. This is the most perplexing part of the whole Sevco saga.

Surely it can’t be just gross stupidity?

Agree 100%, im guilty of it myself.

Mostly i think it just annoyed me how good we could have been with 2quality centre backs and left back under wgs.

When u look at the team faced a.c milan it wasnt great but wgs had them playing above there level.

His after match interviews annoyed me a little aswel but wgs has spoke out alot more for us than most ex celts. He deserves enourmous credit for that.

  8. if our ticketside graphic is up todate, after the return of benfica tickets for 118/119 , there are currently a total of 405 available for sale.

only about 30 Executive seats in this.

    Hopefully we break the 60,000.

I love it when that happens.

It was very few Celtic supporters who chanted that version. Those around me chanted either ‘oo ah Samaras’ or ‘oo ah up the Celts’.

If you go on TSFM you’ll find out why at least one poster left here…..and it had nothing to do with anyone getting ‘abuse’ as you state so inflammatorily.

Sometimes people say things in anger somewhere they feel they have an outlet. If they are then made aware of their transgressions then they can apologise, make amends , and move on.

I have been in that category.

Obviously some don’t want to let it go……fair enough.

I do not want to be where I do not feel welcome.

Anyone here ever said anything they regret? They wish they could take back.? Anything the have apologised for?

The words ‘stone’, ‘first’ and ‘cast’ come to mind.

I’m well hacked off with all this.

    philvis…,

the all the technology to harness geothermal energy exists, that partly explains the lack of interest, very little innovation from new technologies.

The is no need to live near hot springs and the like, simply go closer to the source, like oil it only involves drilling down far enough.

We already have many redundant mines that can be stabilised and to become energy centres. Using steam to turn an alternator is far more efficient than a combustion engine (20%-35% tops). Then its a simple matter of transmission existing network os all thats needed.

And yes that is exaclty what I’m saying, there is no real will to undercut established industries, theres also the issue that once set up there would be a lot less support industry needed.

If you look at all the other energy sources they all have major support from elsewhere.

  15. HT

Note I said individuals I am sure they were drowned out by the majority of fans who were singing ooh up samaras
