Benfica arrive after 3 competitive games

767

Benfica will arrive in Glasgow tomorrow without having played a competitive game since 2 September, when they thumped Nacional 3-0 in Lisbon.  They arranged a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday in an attempt to prepare them for this week’s Champions League challenge but the lack of meaningful football is less than ideal, especially at a time when clubs are looking to build sharpness.

Celtic were idle for two weeks before Saturday but have played nine competitive games this season compared to Benfica’s three.  They also have the benefit of not having to sacrifice a day’s preparation to travel.

Fitness late in the game, perhaps accentuated by the use of substitutes, could be crucial.  Celtic’s best chance of winning this one will come in the second half. Run the lungs out of them, Celtic.

I thought the OIC dropped their interest in trying to get all countries to criminalise anti-Islamic Insults using the UN?

Is this just not some Christian fundamentalist jumping on the band wagon of the trouble that erupted in the ME due to video by the nut in the US?

Sounds almost as bad as a speech from the Ayatollah, except she shops at Bloomingdales.

Tribute to the 96, and to the work of families and friends since the tragedy, by Everton had me in tears – such a waste of life.

And such a heartless and soul-less cover up over the years.

  3. Saint Stivs @ 18:53,

    Good piece on E-tims…

The idea that RFC could afford the top players on EBTs in any event due to SDM’s deeeeeep pockets and therefore no sporting advantage was had.

So wee bit strange that during this time R@ngers claimed they could not field a RESERVE team.

    Why?

    They couldn’t afford it.

  4. At CP picking up my CL tickets today when I came across a a supporter who lets say has a bit of a higher profile than the rest of us however we got talking about Bangura scoring at the weekend and the 2m fee we had paid for him the retort was “aye we’d have got a better return from him if we had stuck him in a trap at shawfield”

  5. theweegreenman,

jungle Jim will not be too impressed when he is looking for up

    dated hoops news

Anyone see the 2012 Movie named ‘Compromise’

it’s based on some thirty fast food chain restaurants in USA

being exploited by some perv stating that he is the police

on the phone when that is so further from the truth and some

people being very gullible indeed un-believable stuff but in actual

fact it’s so true sad but very true check it out.

  6. I actually think thon Chris Graham is worse than Leggo. I know that sounds a bit strange, but if you read some of Leggo’s rantings then you see real moments of lucidity between the drool and sour jabberwocky. Yes, they may be brief, very brief in fact, but genuine moments of self-awareness and the ability to question his own assumptions are evidenced. I cannot say the same for the Graham character. He has mastered the capacity to project apparent reasonableness- a superficial reading of his material leaves you with a false impression of fairness and relative moderation. It’s all very plausible- in fact it reminds me of another glib sneak: FPLG.

When you actually examine this imposter Chris Graham’s party-political piffle then the embittered gibberish comes through for what it is: the distorted ravings of an angry wee mammy’s boy- and what’s worse is that he NEVER questions whether he is right or wrong, its merely accepted as a fundamental fact of his existence, a fixed index of this shallow characters perfunctory personality. If you go onto his site you see “Celtic” fans, who interact and converse with this lightweight as though his cosmetic, facile writing style and slanted bombast is somehow earnest and insightfully penetrating journalise- and no doubt he takes it as some sort of confirmation of his delusions as a documentary commentator.

But the reality is that Graham is a donkey sharing the same stable as asinine Leggo. A donkey that imagines its a thoroughbred- but he is a cheap agitator of the horde like Leggo, just another hurting zealot of orcdom; a moderately articulate fan scribbler with pretensions to objectivity. But it is types like Graham that are worse than the semi-illiterate knuckledragging goons amongst the hordes who, like sectarian robots, just repeat the bigoted software they were programmed with. He should know better. And at some time he probably did know better. But the dangerous and crazy thing is that now he doesn’t know any better- that is the biggest indication of how paranoid the polarization and ideology of persecution has become amongst the orcs in general since they went into meltdown.

Can’t comment on the pie situation as I try hard not to put anymore money into another club than I have too(publicans of another town now that’s another matter). I think that £26 was more than enough to be giving them.

  8. Big Georges Fan Club on

On the way to pick up the wee man from his fitba’ training at about 7:35, I confess to flicking through the radio channels and alighting on Clyde.

Having been cured recently, I had a minor relapse and found myself listening to about 60 seconds of this completely ignorant (in the real sense of the word) Hun – utterly surreal!!!

“Ahm oan aboot these EBTs – ah mean, is it auldco ur newco they ur after fur them – ah mean, how ur they trying to drag green tae this????” – then launched into -“an’ that Judge, Nimmo [sic], is he no the wan that banned the rainjurs fae signin oanybdy fur a year – he’s no impartial”.

Did anybody else hear it? I almost pitied him.

How can they remain so completely ignorant of any of the facts regarding what has happened – or rather, been done by – and continues to happen to their club? (The fact that none of the panel [Jim Duffy, tsk, tsk] mentioned that the investigation is into dual contracts, and was nothing to do with EBTs, did nothing to help to poor afflicted soul).

Don’t usually generalise – but they are a bunch of complete buffoons – one of the minor reasons that they deserve everything that is coming their way.

Really wish I hadn’t. It’s the first time ive read it.

Made me feel quite sick and very very sad. He plumbs depths I don’t want to know about.

I have no comment to make on the substance of the piece.

Am I wrong to ask he should be linked or referenced on CQN (I am fully aware this is not my decision to make, btw).

There is a counter arguement that this level of tripe needs answered and corrected, I don’t agree in this case.

Why give him the publicity. It’s all he craves.

    Very true mickybhoy1888

but when one has had nothing to eat early doors leaving glasgow

and is feeling a bit hank marvin then one would eat ones hand off

for a chunk of meat but without inflicting harm upon oneself the

next piece of meat is in the shape of either a scotch or steak pie

but for a whole stand to run out of said piece of scan after just

being opened for less than one hour comes under not being

prepared properly or not being efficiently well organised

inactivity instead of pro-activity as for the £26 for that well I

think the team should have just stayed in the Perth Night

Club instead of turning up on McDermot playing field and

watch three points sail down the River Tay still never mind

I hope they turn up on Wednesday night in a somber mood

not in Big G’s bhoy’s kind of music mood called in a trance

In light of the Juninho conclusion (verdict) – should we not be supporting wee Billy Dodds?

    1. He claims he never had 2 contracts.

    2. He claims all his affairs were qualified by his agent and accountants.

    3. He claims his contract was terminated in agreement with oldco for a lump sum.

    4. He claims that the lump sum was paid into an EBT by mutual agreement.

    5. He claims that full; tax, N.I. payee etc was paid by oldco.

Now – he had 10 days press coverage to qualify these statements (2 weekend spreads) and explain his position without undue questioning by the MSN – then surely this is a similar ‘nothing-to-answer’ SFA case to that of Juninho?

If (as CFC did) – he can verify that these details are:

    • Accurately lodged with the SFA.

    • Stated within the oldco accounts.

    • On record with HMRC (qualified by an affidavit by his accountants – to protect his privacy)

………………………. then why should he not be afforded similar clearance to that given to Juninho? :-)

I’m not sure that Leggo takes himself seriously …I think he writes rabble rousing nonsense to play to the hoardes

Graham is altogether more sinister …he reminds me on the wee twerp at school who starts on the bother and watches with perverted satisfaction as others beat nine bells out if each other ….quite why he is is given air time by the media is beyond me
