Benfica arrive after 3 competitive games

767

Benfica will arrive in Glasgow tomorrow without having played a competitive game since 2 September, when they thumped Nacional 3-0 in Lisbon.  They arranged a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday in an attempt to prepare them for this week’s Champions League challenge but the lack of meaningful football is less than ideal, especially at a time when clubs are looking to build sharpness.

Celtic were idle for two weeks before Saturday but have played nine competitive games this season compared to Benfica’s three.  They also have the benefit of not having to sacrifice a day’s preparation to travel.

Fitness late in the game, perhaps accentuated by the use of substitutes, could be crucial.  Celtic’s best chance of winning this one will come in the second half. Run the lungs out of them, Celtic.

praecepta – whit are ye talking about – did ye no get the memo – Wee Billy just got paid in the normal way – nothing to see here.

That Juninho is a different matter – very irregular.

I mean it wasn’t even a Celtic EBT – they used a Middlesbrough EBT even though Juninho had already left Middlesbrough.

Surely if that one was OK, then it was OK to pay Eck and Sooness with a Ranjurs EBT after they left ra Berrrzzzz too? Surely???? Anyone??????

  3. Twofold Delusion of present der Hun malaise:

    1) delusion that there is a persecuting system out there, consisting of taig, tims, paddy’s, micks & jacobites, who are targeting The Rangers.

    2) The Rangers are a special group who hold a unique position in Scotland with a mission to uphold the values of Empire etc that makes them heroic.

This is the reason why they believe they have done nothing wrong and also believe they should not be punished- why should heroic figures with special status be subject to the same standards & rules as the rest of us?

Interesting. In the same context though the UN have created more resolutions regarding ‘Oor friend’ Isreal, than any other nation and these are totally ignored.

I cannot see the day when sharia law will dictate the lives of the other two thirds of the globe.

If anything it is just polarising the argument even more.

So who gains from it all?

    Praecepta,

I had a similar thought regarding Billy Dodds – but I suspect that even in his case (and others who used the EBT for severance), the devil is in the detail as to what was declared to who – and precisely when it was declared in relation to the timeline of a true picture emerging of goings on at Ibrox.

  10. Any CQNers know if Kevin Bridges has any dates after Wednesday, bought tickets for me and the missus before we qualie’d for CL hoping to maybe swap for another day.

The plan is to tape the game, not find oot the score and watch said replay when I come home. Easier said than done whit wae KB bein a tim.

The ancestry of the native Americans is not the debate. It was the genocide of the nation I thought we were discussing.

Before Cortes arrived estimated population of the Americas was from conservative , 50,000,000 to 100,000,000. There is only around 800,000 left in the US?

  19. Anyone else think the following comment could just be made up pash?

At CP picking up my CL tickets today when I came across a a supporter who lets say has a bit of a higher profile than the rest of us however we got talking about Bangura scoring at the weekend and the 2m fee we had paid for him the retort was “aye we’d have got a better return from him if we had stuck him in a trap at shawfield”

Made up by a so called Celtic supporter to cause disharmony on CQN or stand an unnamed high profile supporter of our club in bad light hence alluding to the fact that this is a measure of our support in general.

If said TROLL is going to recant these stories said TROLL should have the balls to name the high profile supporter affording said supporter the opportunity to defend their comments. I’m sure if a high profile supporter made a statement like that being quoted said high profile supporter would not wish for what appeared a friendly chance meeting and comments to be recanted on an Internet forum.

TROLL’s should stay in the dark under their bridges were they belong.

They certainly don’t belong in Celtic Park no matter their monetary value to our club.

Just caught the tribute to the 96 at the beginning of Everton V Newcastle game. The players lined up at the Centre circle, a young boy and girl, about 5 years holding each others hands, one wearing an Everton strip, one wearing a Liverpool strip.

Then a minutes applause starts, with the song over the public address system, from the hollies, “He ain’t Heavy, He’s my Brother” Camera pans the crowd and to a person they are all applauding. And then it picks up on one a woman in the crowd, a relative of one of the deceased with her Liverpool scarf around her neck.

    Very touching and true class.
