Benfica arrive after 3 competitive games

Benfica will arrive in Glasgow tomorrow without having played a competitive game since 2 September, when they thumped Nacional 3-0 in Lisbon.  They arranged a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday in an attempt to prepare them for this week’s Champions League challenge but the lack of meaningful football is less than ideal, especially at a time when clubs are looking to build sharpness.

Celtic were idle for two weeks before Saturday but have played nine competitive games this season compared to Benfica’s three.  They also have the benefit of not having to sacrifice a day’s preparation to travel.

Fitness late in the game, perhaps accentuated by the use of substitutes, could be crucial.  Celtic’s best chance of winning this one will come in the second half. Run the lungs out of them, Celtic.

    Thinking of changing my name

    the hunskelper to describe out manager is a bit dated,

    views on hunslayer

    after all he presides during their destruction

  2. Philbhoy

    It’s Ok I never much liked him anyway and most of what he had to say was mundane and tedious to say the least!!

  3. Big Georges Fan Club –

    Leggo has been sick, Leggo needs healing, Leggo needs medicine – in fact I’d go so far as to say that, what Leggo really needs, right now, is a Doctor.

    (TARDIS sound effect)

    I can never bring myself to bet on Celtic,but I included the following in an e-mail earlier today.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    We’re 13/5 on Bet 365. With Paddy Power offering money back on selected markets if it’s a draw,and you are confident we won’t lose,then that is effectively a free bet on correct score,first scorer,etc
    Of course if we play like we did on Saturday
  5. canamalar – Thinking of changing my name
    To Shirley?
    Don’t do it canamalar. I tried living as a woman once, had to give it up because the periods were killing me. (thumbsup)
    You are probably right ——- a whole LP of Mahalia Jackson would be too much for me .
    I do have 2 45s ————- been a long long time since I gave them a twirl .
  7. Bobby
    I’m hopeful that preoccupation with this Wednesday’s fixture in the CL is what distracted the team on Saturday in Perth.
    I’m hopeful that a packed Celtic Park, the floodlights and the sweet smell of Buckfast in the air will bring about the return of the real Celts.
    I’m sure some of your “friends” on the nightshift will suggest some names for you….
    even funnier that SV is BP’s!
    Might be doing them a disservice saying Shell – but think they worked with an A4 map of Scotland where the islands appeared to be attached to the mainland.
    The favourite was technical-data requests from offshore engineers who they asked you to visit – they couldn’t quite grasp that rigs had postcodes!
  10. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on
    You said in todays leader we should run the lungs out of Benfica.
    I hope we have enough of the ball to be able to do that.
    I hope we press them as much as continental teams do to us.
    Oh, and I hope Tony Watt is on from the start.
  11. How deep does this Dalek conspiracy go?
    Has anybody checked what school Terry Nation went to or what religion his wife was?
    Maybe he invented Daleks to mock the Ibrox disaster in advance. >:-(
    Also, was Davros invented to mock Sir David Murray’s perambulation problems?
    Mort – thanks, I did read that before I read the Leggat piece. I’m just astounded that one can lead, in anyone’s mind, to the other!
    Philvisreturns is right; all joking aside – that person urgently needs the professional help of a psychiatrist.
    The funny thing is that we have a reputation for paranoia and always seeking ways to be offended.
    This has taken it to a huge other level.
    There’s gonna be a lot of heavy metal towns in the USA in the near-future.
    Their recent shift to shale gas production will see to that.
    The process involves pumping so much chemically-treated water into the water table that it will become poisonous in time.
    And,one thing about me,I’m certainly not a rabid environmentalist.
    I just think that politically the time is right for shale gas,but scientifically,it isn’t.
    I suppose it would depend what kind of party it was.
  25. Interesting blog from Alex Thomson regarding his endorsement of ‘Downfall’
    Quite simply, he endorsed it because it tells the truth.
    Here’s to the Fourth print run happening soon.
  26. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS – Don’t worry, fracking is completely safe. They’ve been doing it for forty years and nobody’s been poisoned yet.
    The chemical treatment is suspended in 99% water and nobody’s going to make any money by deliberately or recklessly poisoning people in the litigation-happy US.
    The shale gas industry does seem to have become the victim of an orchestrated smear campaign though from the usual sources. This ranges from brazen lies about it causing water taps to spontaneously emit fire, to brazen lies about it turning the UK into an earthquake zone, to brazen lies about it poisoning people.
    The agenda here is that some people hate the idea of cheap energy. They don’t want the plebs living better for less. They want our lives to be micromanaged by our betters. (thumbsup)
  27. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on
    I found similar in london, they like to take the micky until you insult them, then they seem to understand everything, after that they get on with business and rarely is the subject of language raised again :o)
