BENJI AIMS TO BE IBROX BIG NOISE

BENJAMIN NYGREN is hoping to be a roaring success in Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on Sunday.

The goalscoring Swedish midfielder isn’t overly concerned that he and his team-mates will be performing in a partisan atmosphere at a venue without any backing from the Hoops followers.

Relishing the daunting challenge, Nygren, who has scored five goals and contributed six assists this season, said: “When you are out there you just try to focus on the game.

“Of course, our fans are so important for us and we love their support, but it is what it is.

“We cannot do anything about it, so we just have to focus on the game and let our fans celebrate elsewhere.

SWEDE SENSATION…Benjamin Nygren celebrates his goal in Celtic’s 4-0 Premier Sports League Cup win over Dundee United at Tannadice with Kasper Hogh joining in.

“I’ve always loved loud crowds at home and away. I just see it as energy within the stadium and I just bring in the energy and that’s how I think of it.

“We all know it’s a big game, but in this club every game is a big game. Every game is important.

“So, we always have to just focus on the next game and try to win. That’s what it’s all about in this club and that’s what we always try to do.”

Nygren has claimed 26 goals since arriving at the champions for a bargain £1.7million from Nordsjælland in June last year and is looking for his first strike in a Glasgow derby at the weekend.

On the prospect of a breakthrough goal, the 25-year-old Swedish World Cup performer, speaking to CelticPlayer, smiled: “It would mean a lot, of course, but it’s not what I think of, really.

“I just want to create chances, so if I can provide assists for my team-mates and win the game, I’m just as happy.”

Nygren added: “I’m looking forward a lot to the game and I think the whole team is.

“We have a lot of confidence as a team and I believe we’ve been looking better and better. We’ve been training a lot and try to fix some small things and we feel good.”
