BENJAMIN NYGREN hit a screen gem to light up a grey December afternoon in Livingston as Celtic claimed three crucial points in a 4-2 success over the hosts.

The Swede, a bargain £1.7million summer arrival, hoisted his goal tally to 10 with a double salvo against David Martindale’s Premiership basement club.

The Hoops conceded twice in a mindboggling opening 10 minutes with Nygren and Yan Hyun-jun responding with quickfire levellers before the midfielder rook centre stage with a breathtaking third goal.

Just on the half-hour mark, Nygren collected a pass from Kieran Tierney, took a touch and then whipped a left foot effort wide of the clawing fingers of a full-length Jerome Prior into the net off the inside of the far upright.

Arne Engels rolled in a penalty-kick just before the turnaround to seal the victory.

Asked if his spectacular curler was the pick of the bench so far in his fledgling Hoops career, Nygren, speaking to Sky Sports, answered: “Yeah, I think so.

“It was a great win. Not the start we wanted in the game, but we came back two times pretty fast, so I am very happy for the whole team and all of the fans.

“We’ve had a pretty difficult period, but we were strong to come back on this occasion and get the win.”

The champions edged to within three points of leaders Hearts with a game in hand after the Tynecastle side had toppled 3-2 to Hibs in the Edinburgh at Easter Road.

Now Nygren and Co are preparing to face Motherwell at Fir Park on Tuesday evening as Wilfried Nancy hopes to make it three wins in succession.
