Bernardo and Sinisalo both within development strategy. “Nailed on” England manager

193

Sky Sports reports that Celtic have agreed terms with Benfica for Paulo Bernardo and with Aston Villa for goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo are both encouraging.  Both players are 22 years old and well within the ‘young prospect’ category.  News of Kasper Schmeichel’s impending arrival caused concerns that Brendan had navigated away from our developmental strategy.

Sinisalo is a full Finland cap and made 50 appearances for third-tier Exeter City last term.  That’s too much of a gap to bridge to Champions League level, but enough to establish the player’s credentials.

We are unlikely to learn the full details of the deal with Benfica for Paulo in the short term.  After successful experience with both clubs with Jota, Benfica will surely want a large cut of any resale value for a player who is already a regular in the Celtic team.

We are still filling in the gaps created at the end of last season but these deals would represent solid progress before the start of the season.

This morning’s news that Gareth Soutgate has resigned as England manager will remind you that last year a leading Scottish newspaper, found someone prepared to say Michael Beale was “nailed on” to become England manager and that he could lead them to World Cup glory.  This is the world in which we try to achieve objective football comment.

  1. Even across the pond the villany and hate of the toilet bowl drinkers is legendary

So much so it stops them being invested in, just because

‘you’d be the most hated person in the UK, you know nothing about football, you’d be some American idiot over there’

    Look across the city……

In our time of need, we got the bunnet

    And he flourished

    feck the huns

    and their stories….

  2. meanwhile,

i came through cnetral station around 8pm last night, there was a lot of toursits, a group of yanks came off the largs trains, they all looked retired wealthy people, all wearing similar gaudy golfy type outfits, like the american scutts in the chewing the fat schteches,

but what peaked my quizzical eyebrow was one of them wearing a fecking MAGA cap, seriously,

    anyways. another day closer.

  3. i have often pondered, what does the kkk members wear under those hooded robes ,,,,,,,, maybe band uniforms.

    “Why would anyone think that?“

Perhaps because you were saying we’d done exactly that yourself

    Yeah I know…

I was meaning to look at the difference in supporters and their expectations.

You cant have it both ways.

Give Brendan credit for changing course after sackings and new roles and appointments, then give him credit for his work with the strategy he’s tried to change.

I did expect and about face when we started signing young players this Summer but not this quickly and so soon after being so critical of the signing policy.

My fond farewell to the England Men’s National Team Head Coach, Gareth Southgate, from the green side of Old Kilpatrick on the north bank of the Clyde –

  10. CELTIC40ME @ 6:55 PM,

    No I didn’t

And if I did you could show me exactly where couldn’t you?

Your arguments are getting more puerile with every passing turn.

When Paul jumps the shark, he knows he’s shark jumping…

    Don’t take it so serious

And for goodness sake, don’t try to defend it…

    Hail Hail

  11. a question,

who realistically are clubs open to ffer for ex celtcs that will attract a sell on fee to us.and what value might they be ?

    eddie at palace

    kieren at arsenal

    christie ?

could we earn more in sell ons than selling ?

  12. If, as we’re often told on here, Celtic are a laughing stock and distrusted for their low-ball approach to making a bid for players, how do we reconcile the cognitive dissonance in seeing this approach being take towards us by Atalanta, who are also presented to us as the type of modern , ambitious, holistic creative and (insert any boastful adjective of choice) club that we should aspire to be.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

I thought Frimpong might have interested the higher up English clubs as, for European football purposes, he is classed as a homegrown player.

Man City, for instance, struggle to meet the quota … and, to me, Kyle Walker doesn’t look like he’s got much left in the tank.

It will always be this way

We do not control the media

And infact we have a hostile media, set to belittle and undermine our business

    Problem is

“Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth”,

The media in this country are no friends of ours and continuously undermine our business strategy

Meanwhile, the huns can do no wrong

Despite being bankrupt and having to start again

No coffin was sent to the toiletbowl

It was always and will always be thus

Too many of our support buy into the lies the media spout, due to

“Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth”,

  16. The Donald’s mother, Mary Anne Macleod was from the Isle of Lewis not Skye. She left for the US at 17-18

The Donald has visited her family home in Tong, Lewis, lot of family connections still there.

There are of course MacLeods on Skye, but we dont talk about them…

  17. !!BADA BING!! @ 8:10 PM,

Great news, we are really squad building now…

“Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: “I am delighted to welcome Vil to Celtic. He is a keeper with real qualities and someone we have been aware of and monitored for some time.

“Clearly we have been looking to develop our goalkeeping team and we are really pleased to have secured one of the talented keepers we really wanted.”

Good luck Vil, long term Celt

    Hail Hail

  18. Clunks

It’s a given that the media will talk them up and talk us down

But I was referring to our own on here who describe Celtic as a disgrace and a laughing stock for negotiating in the same way every club and business does i.e. getting what you want at the lowest price you can cinch the deal and walking away when the price becomes too rich for your pockets.

  19. Anyway – some thoughts on engerlund

    gareth southgate is a gent

I like the players in the team

What some of the players in the team have championed is amazing

They have quality ; so much so that they’ve made serious progress in every recent championship

    They have great players

Their great players can do amazing things

their great players can’t do what the big big team’s great players can do

their great players can’t manipulate and dominate a championship ( I’m thinking modric).

    their great payers are isolated

    My breakdown is –

    they’re hamstrung between

english football history, culture, roy of the rovers, have a right go, fast and loud

    and

the epl bloatfest has improved the footie, the footballer, the tactics, controlling the ball, game intelligence

to the pint that the the footballer has been coached out of the football

  20. SFTB

“Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth”

    This is the problem

  21. as Celtic keep their business to themselves

And the SMSM dont get briefed on what to say (and wouldnt say it anyways)

The lack of info and PR coming from Celtic is easy to subvert by continually talking pish

  22. He is a keeper with real qualities and someone we have been aware of and monitored for some time.

    —————–

so we are expected to believe that the celtic analytics and sport scientist and football coaches actually work on this stuff and identify a conveyor belt of assets withou a director football.

aye right. everyone knows peter wanted this fella.

fool me with multi millions in pounds of sales every season and shame on you.

anyways he should have been signed the first day of the window, brendan hamsrung again with one hand tied behind his back and wearing a blindfold

  23. JACKIEMAC on 16TH JULY 2024 8:28 PM

    Good analysis. And I agree.

Gareth Southgate had to go. Ultimately he failed.

He failed because he used outdated, negative tactics.

If he had optimised his squad , employed modern attacking methodology things could have been so different for him.

They were very fortunate to get to the final, he never learned the lesson.

Young team who will get better

  25. Welcome to Celtic Viljami

Hope he gets some game time in USA ..might be better if he doesn’t play against Chelsea on 27th July though as it’s Unikeonpäivä……… and we all know what that means!,

  26. No more remarks saying John Dutton was not a real person. His daughter, who haunts my dreams,I can assure you is very lively 😍

  27. Rips my lovely crochet work to read people saying” The arrival of Bernardo and Idah, only keeps us as we were last season, they are not new additions,we still need to spend money”So the probable spend of £10 million does not count?.Everything is so wrong with that theory in so many ways, least of all the excellent chance to try before you buy.
