BERTIE’S FINAL FAREWELL

CELTIC fans will get their chance to say a final farewell to club legend Bertie Auld at Parkhead this afternoon.

The world of football was saddened by the news the Hoops great had passed away 12 days ago at the age of 83 after being diagnosed with dementia.

Auld revelled in telling tales of Celtic and the club’s wonderful fans – “the team’s twelfth man,” he would insist – and he makes his last goodbye on a poignant occasion.

Bertie’s funeral will be held at St Mary’s, Calton today at noon and the service will be broadcast live on big screens at Celtic Park. The club are welcoming supporters to join the occasion on the Celtic Way to pay final respects.

Following the service, the funeral cortège will then make its way to Celtic Park at approximately 1:30pm.

Thereafter, there will be a private cremation with the family.

For those who are unable to make it to Celtic Park for the broadcast, the live service will also be available on the club’s YouTube channel and on Celtic TV for all subscribers.

On Sunday at Parkhead, skipper Callum McGregor and former onfield leader Scott Brown will also honour the Lisbon Lion prior to Celtic’s 3pm Premiership kick-off with Aberdeen.

All supporters attending the Dons match are encouraged to arrive early and be in their seats 10 minutes ahead of the start of the action.
