Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

  1. I don’t want Lennon anywhere near Celtic. He walked away and left us in the lurch just 10 days before a CL qualifier in Warsaw, and some supporters want him to replace another walk-away manager? Please God no.

“It’s the way to run a business and there is a fiduciary duty towards shareholders to do so. Fans may not like it, but it is the harsh reality.”

Except it’s not. You cannot hid behind corporate governance with near £50m gross in the bank. We have played out the same scenario time and again with O’Neill, Strachan, Lennon and Rodgers.

Sevco are fiscally mismanaged to a great degree, as was their previous iteration, Oldco. Celtic have been mismanaged in a different manner in that our parsimony has cost us potential revenue; our conservative approach has been damaging.

We went into the CL qualifiers last year, following upon a season of record turnover and profit, woefully unprepared in defence and without adequate replacements for Armstrong and Roberts.

I’m gutted Brendan has left and staggered about the manner in which it has occurred. But I equally hold those on the board culpable for showing a lack of ambition and myopia to financial success without realising that financial success can only be based upon success on the park.

no pistols pete.in the wool CELTIC supporter my ass.when talking about TOMMY’S goal against BENFICA he said “I WAS IN THE RANGERS END THAT NIGHT “……………………………….THERE IS NOT A RANGERS END AT CELTIC PARK.

can you please tell him that next time you see him.????????

  4. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Chris Sutton called BR leaving on Sunday morning, so I’m not buying the board only knew of these developing events yesterday.

I’m no board groupie and I state quite clearly I’m not a fan of Peter Lawwell as Chief Exec; however, Dermot Desmond is the powerbroker and what he says goes. It’s naive to think Peter Lawwell has Celtic as his plaything and does as he pleases. The day he disgruntles Dermott Desmond he will be gone.

Brendan Rodgers owed us some loyalty, if just to the end of the season. He could easily have done a deal with Liecester to take over in the summer. He didn’t; his ego and greed took over and he left. he left us in the lurch and that, for me, is despicable.

  6. Wouldn’t it be great to see us all unite behind Neil in pursuit of the treble instead of looking for scapegoats in Lawell, Brendan, Paul67 and each other ?

Neil Lennon standing on the steps of Hampden with our treble treble will kill the establishment, more so than Brendan. We have the best squad in Scotland and a time for a united front against those outwith our club.

You say exceptions are rare…. This should have been an exception. Brendan is a man who has repeatedly spoken of his love for our club since he was a youngster in Ireland, coming over for games with his uncles. How he could think that it is acceptable to walk out at this junction is for me someone who does not have the same love for the club as most of us have.

When I posted yesterday it was in disbelief and praying it was wrong

His legacy for me is now tarnished and heaven forbid if we don’t get 8

  8. Funny my Watford supporting brother texted me on Sunday saying the Rodgers was leaving which I guffawed at, and then he reminded me that Rodgers used the exact same line “concentration (is) fully on Watford/(Celtic)” just before he walked out the door on them.

He texted me today to say “great I can go back to hating the snake now” as I’ve defended Brendan to the hilt during his entire time at Celtic.

Just one other thing, I hope he knows what he’s getting into at Leicester, that group of players have gotten their last three managers sacked including Ranieri who was a hero to the fans. They seem to only have loyalty to each other and woe betide anyone who rocks their boat. That little turd Vardy being the worst of the lot.

  9. Is it possible that BR will reject the Leicester offer, that he has gone there to put pressure on the Celtic board to spend and at the same time to advertise to the big English clubs that he will be available in the summer?

If he does accept the Leicester offer then, given the timing, it is an unbelievable betrayal of the Celtic support. It will also confirm to everyone in England that every club in their financially-doped league is “bigger” than Celtic, whether it be Man City, Leicester or Bournemouth.

  10. Brendan’s timing means I can not wish him luck. He leaves with my disdain. His talk of character means very little now. He’s jeopardised his players season, players he should have more regard for imo.

  11. If if he doesn’t go ( he will) the fact he’s down there talking 24 hours before Tynecastle means he’s finished regardless – think Moussa only this is much worse.

  12. The board knew nothing of this before yesterday! Excuse me for being a cynic but that is probably the biggest mistruth perpetrated by the board on the Celtic support. Inuit Eskimos in the Artic knew Leicester were interested. TV Football pundits were openly discussing it at the weekend but our infallible board didn’t – FFS.

No mention of the parsimony and lack of ambition shown by PL & co in pursuing the players BR identified. Brendan is an extremely wealthy individual and his leaving will have nothing to do with money but all to do with ambition and progress. Evidently our board were more interested in ensuring that the gravy train bonus culture remains intact rather than matching the ambition of the best manager Celtic have had since MO’N and arguably since Mr Stein.

PL MUST AND SHOULD RESIGN WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

  13. Right, who did I leave in charge???

Talk about a holiday downer! Might need to drink even earlier today.

More seriously I did wonder and worry about Brendan leaving in thr summer. But, assuming he does actually go now, my favourite ever manager has just plummeted diwn that particular lrague table.

  14. Was the cheating when Lenny was in charge worse than it is now?

    I don’t think so.

The MIBs have maintained a very high standard of anti-Celtic decision making.

  15. The impact Brendan had on our players was outstanding. I now worry about how his sudden departure will effect them. A loss tomorrow night in an already difficult game and the gap is 5 points. Rodgers has jeopardised the 8.

I have absolutely no time for the man anymore. Just another ‘Celtic man’ that played the support for fools.

  16. So you are Neil Lennon and you are being offered the job for the second time on an interim basis. You know the guy before you was on astronomical money. You r assistant resigned and was to be replaced by a guy chosen by Lawwell. That guy later became manager after Desmond hunted his preferred candidate (Keane).

Days before the managerial vacancy comes up Steve Clarke (obvious choice for manager) complains about his treatment at Ibrox and generally bemoans the issue of sectarianism.

Neil Lennon attacked twice at Tynevastle could take charge tomorrow night.

Neil Lennon who wasn’t sacked and didn’t resign from Hibs after he shouted at some Hibs players.

Neil Lennon who commented on who was signing players when he was at Celtic.

Short term goals – press conference then beat Hearts and Hibs.

Long term somebody needs to sort Celtic out from the inside.

DD is the Irish Raj / absentee landlord.

PL is his local tacksman — doing his master’s bidding while chiseling out as much money as he can.

DD is not interested in cups, leagues or playing success.

He is only interested in the big switcheroo — getting the club into the EPL.

Arbitrage now, arbitrage then, arbitrage forever.

Only issue with the club is that it should not cost him any money.

That is PL’s one and onlt KPI.

DD does not want to put his hand in his pocket to support the club.

However he is very happy that we put our hands in our pockets on a regular basis.

    Owner does nothing.

    Supporters pay for everything else.

  19. BSR

No, but they did know he was going when he told everyone at a presser that they were signing players behind his back.

I’m bitterly disappointed Brendan appears to be going at this crucial stage of the season, however things did not need to reach this stage if managed properly – which they have not been.

  20. I feel like a young wife who has been deserted after a couple of years of marriage.

She married him when he was down and out.

Gave him a reason to get his life back on track.

And now she has been cast aside for a less beautiful bride who has loads of money.

Although I know it may be slightly petty, or largely, I wish Leicester all my wrath and fervently pray that they are relegated this season.

    And next……..

  21. BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 26TH FEBRUARY 2019 12:27 PM

I’d say mores than BR; he’s still here. I am sure that with his track record he could get a better job elsewhere for more money and less hassle!

THE HANDS CANT HIT WHAT THE EYES CANT SEE on 26TH FEBRUARY 2019 12:29 PM

It’s the business strategy of the Club; has been for years and will be for years to come; anyone who thinks they will change is deluded. The implosion of the old Rangers has reinforced a desire to run the Club in such a way that the loss of Champions League revenue over a few seasons will not damage the Club long term. As fans many will largely disagree with that type of business model, but it’s in place and will remain so under Desmond’s watch.

  22. Feeling abandoned today, I absolutely believe the one thing a man truly has to sell that is his own is his Labour and it looks like Brendan has chosen to sell his elsewhere. Are we really supposed to believe the Celtic Board knew nothing about this when blogs were discussing him moving to Leicester before Christmas! Really! Good luck for the future Brendan, I hope it works for you, thanks for the titles & memories.

Just remember timing in your life is everything & this is a Judas move, please leave our players alone.

  23. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Going forward I would take Lennon to the end of the season.

Realistically we will not get better than Clarke as who will want to take the job if there are not associated with Celtic?

Hopeful that PL and others on board (Bankier) leave in the summer. I recognise that Desmond is majority shareholder but the running of the club is the remit of the CEO and executive team.

  24. The powers that be must act quickly and positively.

We need a strategy to deliver the league title, whilst setting up for a strong summer. We are likely to lose a number of key players, both ours and loans.

We were negligent last summer. We cannot afford a repeat.

Surprised that Celtic were caught cold on this one. We heard the same when Moussa left. Clearly, we have a lot of naive personnel on our board. They really should visit blogs, betting sites more often. They may find out things.

The league run in just became a little less comfortable.

    Don’t feck it up, Celtic

  25. Someone is still doing business as HELSINGBORGS have just signed Celtic midfielder Kundai Benyu on a season long loan. (Swedish season).

  26. It’s incredible that lawwell and the board didn’t know till yesterday.

Just like he didn’t know that Moussa would sign for Lyon despite the Lyon chairman telling everyone that once lawwell had stopped barking then he would negotiate. No time for a replacement. Aye.

Of course, since Brendan is under contract, they could have just said ‘No,’ to Leicester.

    Aye, that’ll be right.

  27. I’ve little doubt the board expected Brendan to go in the summer, thus the 6 month loan signings.

His departure at this stage has genuinely shocked everybody. An absolute gross betrayal of the support and his players.

  28. VALE BHOY on 26TH FEBRUARY 2019 12:37 PM

  29. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    The whole thing stinks.

When all is said and done, did we sufficiently back the best manager since Stein?

  30. Only Tommy Burns is worthy of the sorrow in relation to departing the managers seat.

Save the wailing for Rodgers and forget him.

  31. Brendan Rodgers has shown himself to be only interested in money based on this move. Leicester are a provincial club backed by Thai money and an obscene TV deal.

They will skirt with relegation every year, never again qualify for Europe and lose their best players to clubs that can offer trophy winning chances, see Mahrez, Kante as examples. They also fire their manager every eighteen months or so, I suppose he can always go to China after that.

So Brendan has no ambition beyond cash in the bank.

My biggest problem is that he has shown contempt for the players and the supporters of Celtic, that is unforgivable.

  32. MC @ 12.41

We are currently saving up for a rainy day that the savings strategy will cause.
