ANGE POSTECOGLOU has been there, seen it, done it and got the trophies to prove it.
The 57-year-old Celtic boss enjoyed his second successive title triumph following the Hoops’ 2-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle yesterday.
Just under a year earlier, on May 11 at Tannadice, Postecoglou, who arrived on these shores in June 2021, had led his new team to the championship with a 1-1 draw with Dundee United that sealed the club’s 52nd crown in their glorious history.
South Melbourne, the Athens-born manager’s first club, congratulated their former gaffer on his achievement in Scotland – and shared a superb memory from 1999.
1999…Ange Postecoglou holds aloft the Australia title silverware for the second time with South Melbourne.
2022…Ange Postecoglou is all smiles as he parades his first Premiership title.
Postecoglou was in charge of the semi-professional outfit back almost quarter of a century ago when he guided them to back-to-back championships, a feat he has just emulated at Celtic.
After the destination of the 2022/23 flag was confirmed, the Aussie club tweeted: “Ange Postecoglou Back to Back Titles. His latest triumph overnight has us looking back on our own Back to Back win with the great man. South fans and @CelticFC fans alike, you’ll both enjoy this short clip.”
Last season, a header from Giorgos Giakoumakis gave the team the required point in the stalemate on Tayside and they followed up three days later with a 6-0 triumph over Motherwell on Flag Day in the east end of Glasgow.
Second-half strikes from Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu made certain of the silverware in Edinburgh.
Good things come in threes. Roll on next season!
