‘BIG CHANCE TO MAKE THE TREBLE,’ LUSTIG

SWEDISH ace Mikael Lustig has set his sights on Celtic’s first treble in 16 years.

The stylish right-back got the silverware sweep back on course with the equalising goal against battling St Mirren who led 1-0 at half-time through a Harry Davis strike.

Now the Hoops face Sevco Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final on their way to total domination on the domestic front.

Lustig’s effort sparked the revival and other goals followed from Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths.

Now Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to leading his men back to Hampden where they beat the Ibrox side 1-0 in the League Cup semi-final and followed that up with a 3-0 triumph over Aberdeen in November.

Celtic remain undefeated in 34 domestic unbeaten games and are on their way to lifting their sixth successive Premiership crown.

Lustig, 30, said: “We have a big chance to make the treble. We have two tough games left. We have been to Hampden this year and played really good football and, hopefully, we can continue that.

“All credit to St. Mirren. There aren’t many teams who come here and are really disciplined and actually play really good football. It is really strange that they are at the bottom of the Championship.

“They played a really good game. In the first-half, we weren’t that good and obviously it was close to being 2-0, but after that we showed our class.

“It was really important for us to get our first goal and get the second after that. We played really good football in the end.

“We know it’s always going to be like that if we don’t get the first goal.

“If they get to 2-0, it’s going to be a tough game. But, obviously, we know we have guys who are going to score goals.

“Even if they had got to 2-0, we could still have managed to win. It was a tough game. All credit to St. Mirren.”

Boss Brendan Rodgers put on Patrick Roberts at half-time for the slightly out-of-touch Gary Mackay-Steven and the on-loan Manchester City man was in dazzling form.

Lustig added: “Paddy was brilliant. He was involved in three of our goals. It was him who did good things. In the second-half, the game opened up.

“We have some guys who have always been in the starting line-up and scoring goals.

“But that’s a strength we have always had this season. If someone gets injured someone else comes in and does their job.

“That is really big for us.”
