Billy Dodds nails Rangers on tax

712

Billy Dodds, who was named by the BBC as a beneficiary of Rangers Employee Benefit Trust, wrote in today’s Sunday Herald on the subject.  He alleges Rangers paid him money, which should have been taxed as income, through an EBT.

Dodds wrote, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust.   And I said that I would.   It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”

What happened to the “tax… deducted” is the crucial question.  Dodds is clear.  This was money due to him through his contract of employment which should have been taxed.  The seriousness of the allegations against Rangers just cranked up a notch – and from a surprising source.

There is angst amongst the locals as Asda are currently building a store in the town and have refused to change the colour of the store sign or staff uniforms.

Pro Royal, yes, even some catholics like these idiots (in the way most people seem to live celebs just because they’re famous) but I have rarely encountered antagonism to the religion, its schools or its followers down here and I’ve lived in a fair few English cities.

  11. No need for a licence

    Ewing Grahame

RANGERS will be able to compete in the SPL next season — even though they have failed to comply with the SFA’s licensing requirements.

The SFA introduced club licensing in 2006 in an attempt to improve standards among senior clubs. Licences are awarded annually on a gold, silver and bronze basis. However, in order to be granted even a bronze licence, clubs must have filed audited accounts with the SFA by March 31.

Rangers have not published those figures and have not been issued with a licence. However, as things stand, that state of affairs won’t prevent them from being in a position to compete in the top flight.

SPL Secretary Ian Blair wrote to member clubs in August last year, making it clear that ‘all clubs and the candidate club must comply and have complied with the Financial Disclosure Requirements’.

However, Blair last night admitted that he and his colleagues can’t insist their members must meet even the minimum conditions stipulated by the SFA.

‘It is not a requirement of the SPL for members to be in possession of a licence from the SFA,’ he said. ‘Whether clubs do or do not have that licence is not currently relevant to their participation in the SPL.

‘Over the next couple of years, there may be more of a joined-up approach to financial regulations and licensing.

‘There is work going on behind the scenes with ourselves, the SFA and the Scottish Football League in order to establish a more unified policy.’

  12. I do not know Billy Dodds , I expect I am not alone on here. I would suggest that he is using the old ” it wiznae me”excuse. who among us have not used that. I also suspect that Billy is no brain surgeon, having listened to him torture the english language to the level that merits. an appearance at the Court of Human Rights . I do know that he is a very hard working footballer/pundit who looks after his family well and is well thought of among his peers.

If he has opened a Pandora`s Box I guess he was only looking after himself and his family and not trying to defend the whole EBT scam. Do we know if tax was paid prior to funds being released?

I have lived in England for over 40 years – i am sure there may be areas where anti-catholic sentiment exists but overall i have found them very tolerant and most can’t understand why football teams are supported on religious grounds. My only critisism is that i have to point out that Celtic have always been open to all

  18. Interesting comments by Billy Dodds, he could be cleverer than perceived, he seems to be attempting to defend R@ngers. However he claims he WASN’T paid netto potentially dropping the Gers in it and is left looking like an innocent.

“There was certainly no benefit to me from being paid this money through the trust fund………. There is nothing illegal in it…”

Well Mr Dodds you could be correct, insofar as you could be in the clear, still better if you have documentation to prove how much you should be paid nett and how much you were paid after deductions.

However unless those deductions were paid to HMRC the situation looks to have moved from Avoidance to Evasion – Wow…

    Few questions though…

If this was a normal payment and all due Taxes were deducted and paid, why get paid through the EBTs?

If Billy Dodds didn’t know who, when, what, where, was everyone asked to stay stumm about their EBT payments with some Players/Employees undertanding they were benefitting from Nett payments and others believing Tax was being deducted?

Mr Grier claimed today that the Old Board believed if the EBT ruling went against them, R@ngers were finished. Now is this why they made no attempt to Negotiate a solution with HMRC and recklessly carried on regardless, batting Hector away and praying for the best?

What was the payment for? & is Billy D’s job at the BBC now safe?

So billy was due money from rangers…..

    Say £1m …..

Did rangers say ok here is your £1m were due u but we have paid you through and EBT … Thank you very much…..

Billy waltzes away with his £600k after tax payment……

Except rangers haven’t paid the £400k to the tax man …

But instead pays another player that £400k through the EBT ..

    That’s £260k after tax……

But don’t pay the £160k to the tax man!!!!!!!

But pays another player the £160k

Minus tax through the EBT …

But doesn’t pay the tax man ….

And so it goes on.. And on…

Is that what has been happening ???

Not paying tax on tax on tax on tax on tax ….????

Then not only have they avoided paying tax on the the EBT fund then they have also fleeced the taxman of of a further £660k per £1m !!!

So for every £1m through the EBT trust they have not paid as ingle penny in tax

But please tell me if I’m wrong here …

Have they deducted the tax from the payments and again not paid tax again ??????
