Billy Dodds, who was named by the BBC as a beneficiary of Rangers Employee Benefit Trust, wrote in today’s Sunday Herald on the subject. He alleges Rangers paid him money, which should have been taxed as income, through an EBT.
Dodds wrote, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust. And I said that I would. It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”
What happened to the “tax… deducted” is the crucial question. Dodds is clear. This was money due to him through his contract of employment which should have been taxed. The seriousness of the allegations against Rangers just cranked up a notch – and from a surprising source.

a question for you all ! was down the pub earlier and the conversation we were having was who let shay given go? lou macari or tommy burns ? was sure it was macari but apparently i m wrong ! help!!
Only ever saw Shay in goals for us once. It was an U18 game at ibrokes. We were beaten 3-1, but I remember a deflected shot from a hun being saved by our young keeper who turned 180deg in mid-air to do so. Unbelievable save!
We later found out his name was Shay Given.
Not long after this Macaroni got rid of him.
SPF…………….wishing for cloud cover and a cool breeze.
Socceraid – Roy Keane and Gerard Butler have asked to play on the Engerland team so they can give Gordon Ramsay a bit of a kicking
re shay given
My memory of what happened was that luigi was on holiday in America or watching the wold cup when shay given went out of contract. Shay left Celtic in the absence of another offer. Fergus sacked Macari and one of his reasons was that Macari had been negligent in being unaware that shay was reaching the end of his contract and so losing a promising young keeper.
Tin hat on for this, but muggleton actually had a decent record playing for Celtic. There is an element of truth in him being signed for his kicking, as the other. Celtic keepers such as packie had difficulty in dealing with the pass back rule where they could no longer pick up the ball from a pass back.
I think tb brought packie back in when he became manager.
Hail hail ggh
Celtic legen Gerry Butler and Ed Norton on the same soccer aid team?
King Leonidis and Tyler Durden, there’s a midfield combo…
Bazza thought it meant Early To Bed and you get xtra money from the Big Edinburgh Fairy !.
Disappointed that Will Ferrel isn’t wearing his ELF suit
James McAvoy tae – prof X no less.
And the young ‘Brian Clough’ at right back.
Whit a line-up.
Re Celtic keepers,
From memory, we had Brad Friedel on trial around ’93 or ’94. Not sure if it was Brady or Macari that thought we had better on the books already.

Paddy McGuinness on for the guffies. Didn’t he get roasted in the Legends game by the auction winner?
Under Lou Macari we got a draw at ibrox, with no fans.
Which, I think, nullifies the argument about why we can’t boycott the bigotdome, “cos the team needs us”.
ElDiegoBhoy –
we fly out on 7th July and can’t wait Sensatori resort.
jmccormick –
at the weekend in Ek calories are on offer – drink one, get one free. Was 13 stone between Christmas and New year and yesterday mornign I hit 11st 8lb. Doing something right!
I understand that Ally McMoist turned down the chance to play tonight as his fee wouldn’t be paid through his EBT – that of course is nonsense – he is just too fat for the strip
Did Muggleton not break some clean sheet record for us?
I remember as a young kid before a game at Celtic Park and Muggleton with his wife and carrying his kid walked through the few supporters out front of the stadium and no one even acknowledged him. I said to my Dad that’s Carl Muggleton and nothing from him. Shame.
Tin hat on for me, I thought Packie was over rated also remember being up watching Celtic play Buckie Thistle in a friendly and afterwards we were all waiting for autographs and Packie pushed through carrying the kit hamper with Brian Scott refusing to sign anything. Wasn’t his biggest fan after that.

We’re going to Sensatori at Sharm in August.

I’ve never understood that argument, we have been backed by some great support away from home (and at home) and still got gubbed (and against some poor teams).
The fans are great but the team doesn’t need them to get a result.

For the last 5 years I have had a bottle of champagne league win bet with a hun.
I bumped into him yesterday,he shook my hand ( not in a dodgy manner) then
promised delivery of a fine bottle and offered me congratulations before
moving on quickly.
I thought his quick exit was due to sheer embarrassment.
However on reflection does he know that I know that they cheated ?

I had my earphones in. I remember jumping up as he was about to take it but when it went in I couldn’t actually get out the words ‘goal for celtic’ – just ‘john collins john collins john collins’ again and again while the person beside me was shaking me and asking ‘did we score”
Celtic would get serious coin if we got into England, would we win as many trophys and compete in Europe as we do in Scotland.

I remember when we scored late on to get a win at ibrokes under LouM.
I’m sure it was Brian O’Neill who scored with a header in the last minute, but we were there for that game.

Roy Keane still has the footballing brain.

When JC scored that incredible FK, it was… eh… ye… Celtic have scored.
Their equaliser, iirc, was a shot which hit a defender, (Tom Boyd?) on the ass and looped over the keepers head, cue… “Oh what a brilliant goal!”.
Funny thinking back.

Think you’re almost correct regards Macari’s first game. I think O’Neill kinda chested the ball into the net.
I also remember the Brian O’Neill winner thought at the time I didn’t know who had scored. One of those ‘who scored?’ – ‘ We did!!’ moments

I remember nothing of the reserve game. Just wanted to be with other celtic fans. My one and only time in the main stand at Celtic park
Super Sally is allegedly phoning around to find out if Aston Merrygold is under 18.
I think when Collins scored with that free kick we won 2-0 with the midfield maestro (Paul McStay) scoring the second at our end.

No, it was the 1-1 game.
If you youtube john collins free kick it shows the amazing swerve he got on it.

Correction. I was also in the main stand for a new year game. Must have been my first season because after that I had a season ticket. So Jan 90? A Rangers supporting colleague somehow got the ticket for me.

+++++
No we would not win as many trophies as we do in Scotland. Within a short space of time, we’d be competing in Europe every season in front of a completed two-tier stadium, the largest, or second largest in the UK – it’d look like the frickin Bernabeu or San Siro.
Instantly, money-wise, we’d be bigger than almost every EPL team, with no debt but a ‘free’ turnover in the region of £50-70m per season minimum, giving us an overdraft facility similar to ManU/Arsenal, i.e. in our first season, we could realistically spend £300m on players, hedging against income over three years (Uefa break even).
That would place us in the same league, as it were, as the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea and above every other team in the UK and most in Europe.
