Bin sentiment and compassion

215

We always think of ourselves as on the side of the underdog.  Tomorrow, we are the protagonist against the world’s underdog.  It does not matter that Shakhtar Donetsk are seeded higher than us, or recorded the kind of win in Germany last week that no Celtic team has ever been able to dream of, the world wants them to win.

Thousands of Ukrainian war refugees will pack into the Municipal Stadium, Warsaw, to express their strong nationhood and support Shakhtar.  It will be an incredibly emotional night for all of them.

The first thing Ange Postecoglou and his players must do is consign all of that to the bin.  They need to find similar oceans of resources available to their opponents.  If we are not suitably aggressive against a formidable team, we will lose and face an uphill challenge to remain in Europe after the group stage.  Draw, and progress to the Champions League knockout stages remains open.

What happens on the park will be determined by what happens in the minds of the Celtic players.  To match Shakhtar, we must be compassionless, clinical and unforgiving.  Sentiment and comradeship can wait until fulltime.

  3. UEFA has decreed that there will be a minute of silence before the game in Warsaw tomorrow night.

  4. SAINT STIVS

They have also ruled that for UK teams at home this week there will be no UEFA anthem, no CL logo display on the pitch and no arc at the entrance to the field of play.

  5. What is the Starz on

I would agree that there should be a minutes silence for all UK teams this week.

Indeed every week until this dreadful tragedy has passed.

I mean let’s be clear .It is an absolutely awful tragic occurrence….

I refer of course to the existence of foodbanks in every city of one the world’s wealthiest countries. A truly sad and mournful state of affairs

Liverpool have requested the opportunity to hold a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday night against Ajax.

And Jurgen Klopp says he expects the Reds fans to perfectly observe the period before Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with the Dutch giants at Anfield.

“In football parlance, they are running rings around you…”

    ———————————

    They is an imprecise pronoun.

.Do you mean the monarchy, the greens (the pop I took was over Scottish Greens solution to sectarianism i.e. close Catholic schools), the Royalists or the general establishment?

Do you have a suggestion as to how I could avoid having rings run round me.?

Would passive submission defeat them? How are you doing it?

I always find it difficult, when in the middle of a debate on these things, I find that my opposition has declared victory and are, in fact, running rings round me, as I debate.

They are just so clever and superior, I guess?

That’s sarcasm, by the way, if I haven’t signalled it clearly enough.

Choccy or Chalky as his name rhymed with eclair

    Correct!

  12. UEFA turn down requests from British clubs to play National Anthem ahead of matches in European competition this week. Chelsea and Rangers both understood to have asked.

  13. Auldheid…thank you. Res12 may not have had the desired effect re SFA reform…but if it’s led to UEFA shining a light on current Rankers business practices, and puting them on notice…it’s a welcome warning

If you ignore all the superstitious nonsense and its implications re the Stone of Scone, historically what’s left? I remember once reading a description (a black stone that fell from the heavens ie a meteorite) and its connection to biblical Jacobs pillow. Edward Longshanks’ ambition was to snatch it and use it as a means to bolster his supremacy over the Scots…but it was replaced by some nondescript rock before he could take it. Knowing this and rather than admit to any embarrassment, Longshanks then declared this nondescript rock as the real Stone.

Tomorrow is the real beginning of our CL campaign this year. 1 point is necessary, 3 points priceless. This fool predicts 3 points

    H.H.

  14. What a run from Sporting Lisbon just on 1/2 time. Deserved a goal. Keeper lucky to deflect it away.

Sporting in green n white HOOPS 0-0 Spurs in blue.

Jock Stein said it and John Halpin is the pictured Celt.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    One correct answer, Sir!

  16. SFtBs @ 6:07 PM,

Well “they” like the imprecision, it’s only on occasions such as this that they raise their heads above the parapet to show whose boss.

Those of us who have bought into the illusion of democracy get to see what they are up against.

Understanding how clever and superior they are is a good first step, they certainly are formidable.

My interest in politics is very little so my understanding of the Scottish Green Party’s aims and objectives would be pretty near non existent outside the general Green movement. Pacifism and not destroying the planet have always struck me as the way to go.

Unless everyone in Scotland opposed to the status quo unites and becomes hyper-focused on regime change then things will continue as they are.

As I’ve quoted a few Stoic things recently maybe this best some up my personal approach…

differentiating between what we can change and what we can’t. What we have influence over and what we do not.

You may call it passive submission or defeat, I call it sanity.

    Hail Hail

  17. Both Lennon and Rodgers didn’t half chase a few good players at there time at Celtic ,one in particular who will be playing against us tomorrow night ,

  18. THELURKINTIM on 13TH SEPTEMBER 2022 6:31 PM

‘Auldheid…thank you. Res12 may not have had the desired effect re SFA reform…but if it’s led to UEFA shining a light on current Rankers business practices, and puting them on notice…it’s a welcome warning’

And just as importantly it led to a light being shone on how the Celtic Board, and their representatives on earth, operate.
