Bin sentiment and compassion

215

We always think of ourselves as on the side of the underdog.  Tomorrow, we are the protagonist against the world’s underdog.  It does not matter that Shakhtar Donetsk are seeded higher than us, or recorded the kind of win in Germany last week that no Celtic team has ever been able to dream of, the world wants them to win.

Thousands of Ukrainian war refugees will pack into the Municipal Stadium, Warsaw, to express their strong nationhood and support Shakhtar.  It will be an incredibly emotional night for all of them.

The first thing Ange Postecoglou and his players must do is consign all of that to the bin.  They need to find similar oceans of resources available to their opponents.  If we are not suitably aggressive against a formidable team, we will lose and face an uphill challenge to remain in Europe after the group stage.  Draw, and progress to the Champions League knockout stages remains open.

What happens on the park will be determined by what happens in the minds of the Celtic players.  To match Shakhtar, we must be compassionless, clinical and unforgiving.  Sentiment and comradeship can wait until fulltime.

  1. Hello again all you young rebels.

From a non grief stricken pub on the rebel peninsula, haven’t got

a Paddington bear with a marmalade sandwich, but I do have a

video of big Yogi bear destroying the hun with a performance like

    a knife through butter.

As BRB said “ When will this folly end ?

C’mon Celtic, get me away from all this shoite

    H.H. Mick

  2. Can anyone let me know what channel of TVTap or LiveNet for fire stick will have the game tonight? It’s on BT Sport 4 which neither of those apps have.

    Thanks

  3. Melbourne Mick

I still haven’t worked out what all this Paddington stuff is about. Can’t see the connection to royals

  4. For the first time since Ange took over, I disagree with what he has been saying about the RM game. Very downbeat and critical when we have the next game upon us.

Doesn’t strike the right note for me

  5. What is the Starz on

    Scullybhoy at 8.38 am

Eamon Collins is very well known in Dublin football circles .Agent now was formerly a scout.

Big Celtic fan by the way, was very involved in CSC

  6. Go tell the Spartim on

  7. Good morning from a bright early autumnal day in Warsaw.

The arches of McDonalds behind the building gifted to the people of Warsaw by Stalin is an interesting backdrop.

Curiously it reminds me of Donetsk the second time we were there and a McDonalds had opened next to Lennons statue……..

    Progress eh ?

Hard to find many locals who even know there is a football game on tonight. Never mind any who are interested.

  8. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Lionsroar67 – enjoyed your very early posts at 5:34am and 5:51am.

    Initial response

    First made me smile

    Second made me laugh

Reading and watching them back together?

    Quite a sobering contrast.

IMHO (and it is only my opinion)

Ange is true to himself and his values. They’re concrete.

This allows him to speak with consistent conviction on any subject which brushes across his values.

    A special human being.

By contrast, Baroness Scotland came across as a deluded idiot.

    A classic product of politics.

The most significant change I’ve noticed among this constituency during the aptly named “post-truth” era?

The complete and total emotional confidence in spouting untruths, lies, factual inaccuracies.

    Anyway – more important FACT

6½ hours until kick off !!!!

  9. I assume the starting 11 will be as against Real Madrid, the exception being Kyogo to start instead of Giakoumakis?

  10. BURNLEY78

Reminds me of a train journey from Florence to Rome, my first visit to the Eternal City. I stepped from the train and walked to the end of the platform. The station exit was directly to the left, a huge arched tunnel, directly across from which was a McDonalds with it’s big ugly M dominating the exit.

    Horrible.

    ——–

I’m happy that Ange has set a standard and as I said after the game, a few fell a little bit short of what he knows they could achieve. I love he disnae GAF about any team or their reputations. He believes we should be up to take on and take any side – or at least not fall away/lose concentration as he suggested that we did.

Refreshing to see wur leader focussed on reaching a playing pinnacle, not just making up the numbers orkeeping the scores respectable (like wee Gio might be thinking about the now).

Hopefully our bhoys share Ange’s ambition.

If not, he’ll find replacements who do. Or an environment where they’re in ready supply. Just imo yunnerstan.

  12. Team for tonight…

    4-3-3

Subs to unleash : Maeda, Haksabanovic, GG, Mooy & the big Dane.

    3-1 to the good ghuys.

Great to be back and having the Celts to look forward to.

  13. The Paddington Bear episode was an interesting for the queen to get involved with, and you have to wonder what subliminal message it was intended to send.

For those not familiar with the backstory to the character (Paddington, not the queen) and his creator Michael Bond this might be of interest.

Paddington Bear and the Displaced Child

‘Yet Paddington has become a political symbol in recent years, mostly to represent the not-so-fortunate. In 2009, Bond and his mascot kicked off a campaign to end the “arrest and detention of hundreds of child asylum-seekers in prison-like conditions.” This was a call to action in response to reports that the U.K. Border Agency was arresting and holding up to 2,000 refugee children. Bond, speaking in the voice of Paddington, told the press, “Whenever I hear about children from foreign countries being put into detention centers, I think how lucky I am to be living at 32 Windsor Gardens with such nice people as Mr. and Mrs. Brown.” He went on to say, “Mrs. Bird [the Browns’ housekeeper] says if she had her way, she would set the children free and lock up a few politicians in their place to see how they liked it!”
