MIKEY JOHNSTON celebrates his 21st birthday day – alas during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
It would be fair to say this season has been a bit of a rollercoaster for the product of Celtic’s prolific youth academy.
Johnston got the ball rolling on the Hoops’ bid for nine in a row this season when he scored the opening goal in the 7-0 rout of St Johnstone on a gloriously sunny afternoon in the east end of Glasgow on Saturday August 3.
He completed a typical darting run in from the left with a careful dink wide of the helpless Zander Clark before Ryan Christie took centre stage with a spectacular hat-trick as Neil Lennon’s men claimed their place at the Premiership pinnacle on day one.
Johnston, who has netted 11 goals in 48 first-team appearances, has endured a torrid time with injuries in this campaign and is continuing his rehab work at home during the shutdown.
The Scotland Under-21 international winger, who agreed a new five-year deal in December, brought down the curtain on the previous league campaign with a double in the 2-1 win over Hearts at Parkhead and he played his part a week later in an action replay against the Tynecastle outfit in the Scottish Cup Final when the club completed the historic treble treble.
From everyone at CQN, Happy Birthday, Mikey.
Your next Premiership medal is on its way!
