Bitterest pill, hilarious, angry, ranting

1510

News that the Maribor game later this month is on the season book has setup a dramatic climax to what will be remembered for decades as a remarkable month in our history.  We didn’t ask for this situation.  As we drifted away from Murrayfield, our thoughts were only of Celtic’s abject display, but nine days and two Uefa Disciplinary hearings later, we’re through to the Champions League play-off round next week.

For Legia Warsaw, the pill is unbearably bitter.  So much so, they had to appeal to Uefa, and on to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, despite scant cause.  CAS who will eventually be asked to determine if Uefa’s rules were interpreted correctly.  Which they were.  The consequences for Legia are so abrupt their reactions are understandable.

Football affects us in ways which are not always beneficial.  There was nothing Legia fans could do to remove their distress this past week, but reading comments, by fans of another Scottish club on this subject, has given a glimpse into the human condition.

The emotional investment by some Scottish football fans in Legia’s forlorn cause has evidently resulted in untold misery.  Celtic fell into the Clyde and came out holding a winning Euromillions ticket.  It was unplanned for, random and undeserved, but it happened and, right now, Celtic are the luckiest team in the world.

At a time when their phoenix club is falling apart before their eyes, our unearned good fortune has caused volumes of hilarious, angry, ranting.  Efforts to explain it as a consequence of immoral plots (as well as running the Celtic, the SFA, the SPFL, Glasgow City Council and The Commonwealth, Peter Lawwell also manipulates Uefa’s Disciplinary Body) demonstrate classic evidence of our old friend, Cognitive Dissonance.

We were blind lucky, accept that, or continue to give the rest of the world new and innovative ways to enjoy their football.  It’s not worth the dissonance.

It’s been an interesting week in the media.  Neil McCann’s excitable misinterpretation of the rules on Wednesday was a highlight, but the paper which brought you ‘news’ that Celtic wanted Dan Pertrescu to be manager, who declined as he was warned the club have problems by Neil Lennon, subsequently got a second story when they ran a properly sourced article denying ‘reports’ Neil spoke to Pertrescu.

I’m also loving reading those who in the media were spinning anti-Celtic nonsense that Neil left because he wasn’t happy with the player budget, now suggesting he could take over Crystal Palace, after Tony Pulis left because he wasn’t happy with the player budget.

Nonsense like this is never random, it has a purpose………..

On a related subject, I’m gutted for Palace, their fans, and for Pulis. The economics of the entire English league structure doesn’t work. Well-run clubs with good managers will be weeded out and relegated, as crazy debt-junkies inflate the bubble a little longer. Scottish football may be poor, but there are only two of our 42 clubs in any sort of financial danger.

Flag Day tomorrow, get along early, give Fergus a warm welcome back, and bring some change for The Kano Foundation bucket collection on the way in. Remember to join Fergus, Jim Craig and others from the Celtic Graves Society for the Jimmy Quinn event at Kilsyth Cemetery.

Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to Mary’s Meals by entering our competition for tickets in the comfy seats tomorrow.  I’m proud of every one of you.  My thanks also to Magners for helping out.  The competition is now closed, winners will be informed by email shortly, so check your inbox!

  1. It was soft in my opinion but as you can see from the SFA below that “alleged simulation” is the charge.

For simulation to be an offense there can be no contact right?

Also from laws of the game, simulation is considered unsportsmanlike behaviour which is punished by issuing a yellow card.

    So why a ban?

The Scottish FA has now served Boerrigter with a Notice of Complaint for alleged simulation and offered the player a fixed two-match suspension. Mackay has appealed his red card and subsequent suspension.

If Boerrigter does not accept the charge and offered suspension then his case will be heard at a disciplinary hearing on Thursday August 21. Mackay’s appeal has been scheduled for the same date.

From I where is was ,line with the penalty box ,Boerigter was racing in on goal looking a cert to score . There was some kind of contact with the defender which knocked him off his stride ,made him stagger and then fall to the deck.

Even that pluke Tanner suggested to the raving McCann that there may have been a trip. Ive still got it recorded and will review it myself.

watch carefully it was a push ok a push and DAVE MCKAY walked off without a protest because he knew what he had done.

and what do you think THE SMART SUITED QUISLING will do .ZILCH he is a SHITE BAG .

Celtic were LUCKY to get a reprieve in the Champions League.

Boerriger was UNLUCKY to get reported for diving when he didn’t.

See, luck does even itself over the season.

Hunnish perma rage there, are you Neil Mccann?, he hates Celtic employees too…….

  5. I dont agree that we have no choice but to accept the media bias.

The more blatent anti-celtic stories should be challenged by the club and if the offenders continue they and their media outlet should be banned .

Of course we can take reasonable critisism but when it goes too far kick them out!

I cant see that the club need them .

  6. glendalystonsils on

    Simulation, i.e. diving almost always takes the following form;

Defender sticks out a leg. Attacker plants a standing foot in front of outstretched leg (no contact) and throws himself over defender’s leg

    or

leaves a trailing leg behind so that he contacts defenders leg making it look like the defender has made the contact.

    Derk did neither.

  7. I was Neil McCann’s father’s boss for a number of years. They were a Celtic supporting family to the best of my recollection and desperate for Tommy Burns to sign Neil when Tommy was in charge.at CP.

    :::::::::::::::::::

If the ref on the day is not fooled by the simulation, it is a yellow.

If the ref is fooled on the day then the punishment is more severe.

And so, it all depends on how foolish the ref is.

  9. Hey Tom McLaughlin. No worries. I thought it was a case of mistaken identity and I was trying to pull your leg last night.

  10. The offence was the push in the back in the “PENALTY box” anything after the contact is irrelevant.

Martim1980 .not all celtic employes.but him certainly,he is our biggest problem.

do you want a list of reasons.

  12. The derk thing is but a trifle. The campaign by the Scottish sports media to have legia reinstated is the sickener.

Some of them hate Celtic. There is no other reason for them to do it.

For those journos who lurk and post on here pretending it’s work, substituting surfing for research and occasionally regurgitating things you read on here:

Your team died. Your new team is a busted flush. You sold your ‘profession’ to the highest bidder and you didn’t notice they can’t pay any more. Your core audience is made up of half wits and that is who you are kidding – you know the truth, we know it but you can’t live in it. You would do.well to ask for a job writing about cricket. At least you wouldnt have to kid yourself on that the majority in Scotland actually care what you write any more.

Rony is a bit nieve at times when talking to the MSM I hope he learns quickly to watch what he says.As has been said they appear to be getting more bitter as the zombies struggle. H.H.

  14. At the very least a second yellow so red card for mckay but denying goalscoring opportunity by pushing opposition player in the back in the “PENALTY box” straight red.

Bo going down is dramatic IMHO but the offence has been commited previously

Today is the last chance to register your team in time to take part in week 1 of the league.

Want to show Ronny Deila how it should be done? Think your better than Stein? Do you have the luck of Celtic or the administration talents of Legia? Then here is the invite code to the CQN Championship Fantasy Football League, we are now approaching 170 teams entered.

You have 17 hours left to register your team & join the league.

As an added incentive I’ve decided to offer some prizes for the top 3 come the end of the season. The winners will each receive items of their choosing from the Official Celtic Webstore to the tune of

    1st £100

    2nd £75

    3rd £50

Or alternatively, winners can choose to donate any winnings to a Celtic charity of their choice.

Also if by some miracle I end up in the top 3, the winnings will be passed onto the next placed team.

  16. Re Derk – watched it again(and again) just there. There is contact no question, after that the manner in which he goes down is irrelevant. Remember a few years back at Ibrox,Broonie stayed on his feet when challenged in the box and we did not get a pen – roundly told that you have to go down in the box. Now we are being told you have to go down in a certain way! As Bada just said, need to put ref on the spot here and take in our own evidence. I will be disappointed if we accept this…….maybe teach Ronny to be a bit cuter with the press and not mention having words with players about diving when he has not seen a replay of the incident.

Here is a scenario for folk to think about.

Words are easy, deeds are more indicative of the prevailing thinking.

In December 2011 Rangers met with the First Ministers team to discuss Rangers situation.

Not sure what else came up but the outcome was Rangers provided the First Minister with a note that gave the First Minister permission to discuss Rangers tax matters with HMRC , which he did on 11 Jan 2012.

Now had First Minister been Prime Minister of Scotland two questions.

    1. Would he have needed permission to speak to the Scottish Tax authority?

    2. If not or even if he had and had spoken to them, would they have told their Prime Minister to gtf as HMRC did?

In fact had it all kicked off in 2018 would the Scottish Tax authority have even have investigated ebts used at Rangers since 1999?

There is much improvement that could be made to actually be Better Together, particularly for the Scottish football industry, but for all its fault Government from London under a UK parliament with a government that is subject to balance because of right and left policitics over time, protects us from the worst excess that we see manifesting itself now.

Be careful what you wish for folks, look at what has happened to Scottish football in the absence of checks and balance on its governance by deeds, not words.

  19. Has the SFA Compliance Offices asked the Dunfermline Coach to explain his calling a player from another member club a cheat?

Celtic should refuse any interviews with Sky pre and post match tomorrow and continue to do so until the two fuds who were obviously hurting so much on Wednesday apologise on air.

.i find this worrying.it is a form of retro justice imo, at the hands of the tv cameras while implyin it caused the referee to give a wrong decision.Dirk did not get booked and now has the option of a minimum 2 game ban and confirming a tax cheating sky panellist theory or more possibly.

This needs to be contested at every level Celtic.
