Bitton deal, here’s an idea, just repay Mikes’ loan

475

Very pleased to hear Nir Bitton has signed a contract until 2020. Five years is an astonishing extension for a player who is clearly heading in the right direction. It gives Celtic assurance that they don’t need to worry about a key player’s contract running down for the foreseeable future.

Nir was the first manifestation of Ronny Deila’s player-improvement work. At the start of last year he was little more than a squad addition, a bit like Leigh Griffiths, but he’s since excelled in domestic and European football, as well as for Israel in the Euro qualifiers.

Let’s see if he can continue to improve.

I note the media going ‘a bit Tonto’ over Sports Direct’s insistence that the Rangers Former Players Benevolent Fund stop using trademarks they own. I know this will make many people swallow hard, but’s be clear, if the Celtic Former Players Association were selling merchandise bearing the Celtic crest the club would be saying “Cease and Desist that right now, Joe”. Same is true if you are a fan selling T-shirts or street vendor selling scarves.

Without making moral judgements, football clubs earn money from licensing their logos, you want to use it, you pay. You don’t pay, the club cannot discriminate between who they pursue and who they don’t, as such discriminatory behaviour would be a legitimate defence in law by a transgressor.

Sports Direct own thousands of logos and brands. They will have a department sweeping for infringements and they don’t strike me as the kind of company who let any slip through without action. I’d be amazed if Mike Ashley, or any senior SD staff, were even aware of the action.  Cease instructions will come out from the legal team without a second thought.

What remains galling to some is the fact that Newco have to take instructions from Sports Direct on use of logos and other IP. This, on top of the whole Fifa 2016 indignity, could be ended by repaying the Sports Direct £5m loan.

Why wouldn’t they stop the embarrassment and just pay Mike his money? He’s not going to cut a new deal, no positive accommodation is ever going to happen, all that lies ahead is more embarrassment, and the risk of Ashley taking genuinely draconic action to recover his loan.  I’m sure they money’s there to repay, right?

My opinion is that the trust do a good job.

My opinion is you are now being a troll.

I know you are a Celtic fan, I don’t doubt that for a second, but in my opinion you are now a troll.

As a regular critic and prophet of of gloom and doom, I solemnly promise to make absolutely no comment on Thursday’s result.

Can anyone solve the following conundrum?

As some posters persist in referring THEM being dead or dying, others assure us that Doncaster and Regan will ensure that such a death or even near death will simply not be permitted.

In essence, a Debt position provides some security for those Creditors in the event of an Insolvency, while the convertible aspect allows for a proporational upside reward for the excessive risk.

The RIFC shareholders have to choose between Bob Hope if it works (Eg Creditors owning the company) and No Hope if it doesn’t (Insolvency), but those proposing such an idea aren’t minded to frame it in this way.

Neither are they (King. Murray, Gilligan) prepared to put their own dough down on the Bob Hope Strategy. It’s someone else’s dough, someone else’s risk.

And from what I gather, much of the dough will come from the Rangers CIC, a cooperative of supporters whose leadership are, at best, somewhat subjective in their point of view.

The great risk to the CIC being, should they put their dough in and the risks subsequently crystallise (Insolvency) they have no collateral with which to pursue a CIC-led solution, at the very moment that such a CIC-led solution would have maximum opportunity.

    Difficult.

While the recent results and performances have been good, I am still concerned about our defensive frailties ahead of Thursday’s game. Were it not for Rooney’s appalling finishing in the first half we could well have been chasing the game against Aberdeen. Their goal, offside as it may have been was yet another example of strikers getting ahead of our defence.

There were many positive things to take from the recent games, in particular, Griff, Rogic, and Tierney’s contribution but any of our central defensive pairings make me nervous.

    Hope they prove me wrong.

Wonder if he makes up the posts supposedly posted by THEM?

  10. Nine years ago today, 3rd Nov 2006, Boston Utd, of the Conference, chairman and manager got jail sentences of two years and one year (suspended) for tax fraud involving concealed payments via dual contracts. The amount involved was just over £300k over 5 years a relatively small amount.

Wouldn’t anybody be delighted and relieved not to be involved in such a wheeze, especially if you had “held back” £300k to the power n?

  11. Then why am I so hungry and why am I so cold and why do so many people boast that they care when they are just lying?

And they live with comfort with the lie and they profess the liturgy that they are Celtic Supporters.

You can fool some of the people some of the time but the mirror tells a true story.

    The mirror does not lie.

Let me vomit in private and do not include me in your lies.

I do not shame myself by wrapping myself in An Gorta Mors horrors and wear it as a false badge of honour.

I am not so sick or demented.

I have pride and compassion and I don’t hide behind the badge or the horrors and pains of those that taught me the meaning of pain and hunger and callous death!!!!

Tomorrow I will wake up and I will be a Celtic Supporter sand there will still be the need for food banks and Celtic PLC will not be paying the living wage.

    And again… once again… I will puke.

They do it in my name, and more importantly, much more importantly, ever so much importantly… they do it in yours.

    In your name. Your name.

Just his overall emotion for the club, players n fans is something to behold. He explained about players wanting to leave and still getting them to perform at a high level and sometimes it’s unsettling in the dressing room. Talked about over training players before Malmo and Molde..may be about 35/40 there. Had a chat with him after. Was interesting.
