Blackett, Christie and our biggest spend in 14 years

846

Tyler Blackett’s arrival, announced moments before halftime on Saturday, was welcome. He’ll immediately push Izzie, who has had no real competition for the left back berth since arriving at Celtic five years ago – an incredible situation.

The Ryan Christie situation surprised me. Ryan performed well against a Celtic defence in a state of flux earlier this month, as he has done previously against us, but it will certainly a curious signing (this morning Inverness Caledonian Thistle announced they have accepted a bid from Celtic).  More on these two later.

As for rumours that we’re about to spend more money on a player than we have since John Hartson arrived 14 years ago……. Well, that is a change of pace. On top of this business, I’m sure there will be more comings and goings in defence, and elsewhere.  Stay tuned……..

Thanks to everyone who entered the raffle for the Golf Day for four at Aberdour.  Taggsy informed the winner (Gerry) by email this morning.

  1. Michu strikes me as a VIduka type character, had his head turned a few years ago when everyone wanted him. He’s got real quality & would be an exciting prospect but a big gamble. Though I think one well worth taking.

A possible four of Janko, Boyota, Simunovic & Blackett is both worrying and exciting. There isn’t 100 games of experience between them but they all appear to be quick & strong athletes..

I see quite a few shouts to punt Efe I’d prefer to keep him as he has experience and with Simunovic & Blackett both being left sided we need a right sided CB to cover Boyota.

No idea why we were so inactive pre qualifying but it looks like being an Interesting end to the transfer window. Hoping for some experience upfront & in midfield before it shuts.

All about opinions but in my opinion Johansen was not worthy of the POTY last Season. He is in my opinion not the Player he is made out to be.

Was chatting to Aiden McGeady last night for about 15 mins. He was on my flight to Dublin from Glasgow. He was meeting up with the Ireland squad. He was up seeing his family for a few days as he was left out of Everton squad for Spurs match. He told me some very interesting things about Celtic and his time there.

By the way he is hoping to go on loan to Sunderland today or tomorrow but Everton are wanting 1.5 mill as a loan fee and it could prove a stumbling block. He is a nice bloke to be fair. He was asking me about Celtic and the current squad and what I thought of the team. He was pretty gutted re Celtic losing in Malmo.

Defies logic that we would open the purse strings now and not before the qualifiers. Smacks of trying to appease the fans. Where’s the strategy? Oh well.

I would always have Kris Commons in my team ahead of Johansen.

I wouldn’t let RD and the even more arrogant JC manage my beloved Celtic if I had the power.

  7. Surprised at the attitude to SJ on here.

He has some very good moments. And for not being able to pass his assist in first leg against Malmo was not to bad.

Would prefer Armstrong in his position.

SJ is not perfect but deserves more praise than criticism.

  8. If we were buying pre ucl qualifying, anyone other than a striker would take time to bed in as they say, not sure if it would have made a difference. We should have qualified with the team we had. Are transfer prospects not cheaper at the end of the window?

Definite no to Fletcher, as someone said earlier, I would take Hooper first

    Michu ?.

Managed a few appearances during his loan period at Napoli . Media claimed he had a knee problem . Napoli chose not to exercise their option to buy clause . . Media claimed that Michu inhabited the same planet as Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli. . That is not a compliment .

Fine,if that’s how you wish to view it. You have posted here longer than I,but in just over six years on the site I have never once pulled you up as I did yesterday.

Although I did explain to you in my early days that there wasn’t a lot of point in your planned boycott of SFA sponsors if it was ignored,as it would have been.

You might say that the information you gave on the site yesterday was mere coincidence and nothing to do with my posts about it,but it doesn’t alter the fact that yesterday you gave us more information in 24 hours than you had previously given us in 24 months.

Yes,I felt like a heel at the time. Yes,I know it was gonna upset you. But the people who put their faith in you are now just that little bit more aware of the situation than they were before.

I genuinely apologise for the manner in which I tweaked the information from you,and I sincerely hope you can accept that.

  13. TET, I got your points re the rookie centre backs; understood.

Michu – didn’t strike me as a work-ethic type player when we had him briefly. How he would suit RD’s philosophy I don’t know. Needs a partner, a la Scepovic.

Stefan Johansen – seems his sparkling ‘Bobby Petta’ season might have gone to his head. Evident from Saturday’s squad where the blame’s being laid for disharmony. Might bee seen as dispensible now that young Allan is looking for game time; a boy of unproven stamina but has very good feet, could be a real creative force for us/or fade to another Dylan McGeough. But Johansen may have given him the unwitting opportunity to establish his credentials.

If we are to splash around 5-6 million, let’s have a powerful midfield force with experience and a striker with real pace. Surely, by the law of averages, the next striker we buy will be a world-beater?

    Stephan Johansen ??

Im surprised at all the negativity surrounding him this morning

Pre Malmo he was a cert to play every week

As a “footballer ” I rate him as a 6 out of 10 in the SPL (in the EPL he would be 4)

As a “team player” I think he is 7 possibly a 8 given his energy and closing down

BUT – the warning light’s came on in Malmo, first half he ran 20 yards to slide tackle their right back and ended up in the stand as Malmo player looked at him like he was a school boy !!!

I hope he stays – but improvement needed

Agree with you to an extent but he cost us big time home and away against Malmo. His performances at that level are not good enough and that can’t be ignored.

The only transfer window there hasn’t been a collection for Barnados on here was the Robbie Keane window; but even then we didn’t need to wait too long after that…

    Bags some lego…

  18. One other thing.

If we do not win the head to heads against Aberdeen ,we will not win the league.

The major difference last season was than we did.

Aberdeen are considerably better than all the other SPL sides.

If we lose to them at Pittodrie in 12 days,we face being 5 points behind them ,if they win their game in hand .

With a tough EL group to stretch us .

We are in for a very difficult SPL campaign.

Beating Aberdeen in the heads to heads is very important.

  19. Today reminds me of the day my primary school replaced the old tracing paper toilet roll with Comfort Soft on the last day of my seventh year there.

Too many slides, skids and sore bums for me ever to forget and forgive.

It’s going to take a wee bit more than Comfort Soft and a few years of quality investment for moneyball frugality to be forgotten.

I think everyone of the players and management. need to share a lot of the blame.not 1 or 2 individuals. big Cifti.has been getting it regular on here.he hasn’t played much first team football. so he at leasts needs a chance.

We could/should have bought both – but let both go south – If correct well don Celtic – forward thinking !!!

  24. Biggest spend in 14 years….where, I must have missed it.

Croatian guy….I think the fee will be nearer 3-3.5 million euros…..not 5 or 6

    Christie…what 500, 000

    I make that….4-4.5 million

Lets not blow things out of proportion.

We cannot afford to waste money…that’s a fact.

However, id guess that the ins and outs will balance out.

    PL wont sanction spending lots.

    10/11 Million for VVD…spend 4/4.5

    We are still ahead.

We wont spend any more than is required….2 players,…The Croatian Lad, and Ryan Christie…that will be that.

    Lets not exaggerate.
