Blackett, Christie and our biggest spend in 14 years

846

Tyler Blackett’s arrival, announced moments before halftime on Saturday, was welcome. He’ll immediately push Izzie, who has had no real competition for the left back berth since arriving at Celtic five years ago – an incredible situation.

The Ryan Christie situation surprised me. Ryan performed well against a Celtic defence in a state of flux earlier this month, as he has done previously against us, but it will certainly a curious signing (this morning Inverness Caledonian Thistle announced they have accepted a bid from Celtic).  More on these two later.

As for rumours that we’re about to spend more money on a player than we have since John Hartson arrived 14 years ago……. Well, that is a change of pace. On top of this business, I’m sure there will be more comings and goings in defence, and elsewhere.  Stay tuned……..

Thanks to everyone who entered the raffle for the Golf Day for four at Aberdour.  Taggsy informed the winner (Gerry) by email this morning.

It was on MOTD2 on Sunday night, in the transfer–window trailer at the end of the show that, they had VVD going to Southampton for £10 million and, Vic67 going to Spurs for £20 million.

Maybe the financial guru’s on here could work out how all that will effect us – if, it works out that way.

  3. So VvD on his way to Southampton it would appear.

If he had stayed he was guaranteed European fitba ’til at least Xmas, instead of going to a club who have been papped out of the EL.

    Besta luck Virgil.

    WITS ..

    My thoughts exactly ..

But we’re bringing quality in .. AT LAST!

We weren’t gonna win the CL ..

    We’re a big club in the EL…

    Never know :)

    “””””””””””””””””

    I like that.

  5. Looks like Virgil is ofski to Southampton, surprised no other clubs have have come in for him last minute. Hopefully the final fee is closer to £13 mil rather than £10 mil.

Good player could have been a great one with some better performances in Europe.

    Hail Hail Big Man!

Sorry, but the EPL is far more glamorous and a bigger challenge than Europa. I’d even argue that it’s more attractive than CL.

CL = 2 X games against cream of the crop. 2 x games against the good stuff and 2 x games against the outsiders.

EPL = 8 x games against cream of the crop, 14 x games against the good stuff and 16 x games against the outsiders.

Joining a mid – lower table EPL gives a greater challenge and is a better foot on the ladder to a big team than being in Europe with us. Plus you’ll get a far bigger wage, I’m not sure I’d join us if anybody – even relegation fodder from the EPL was knocking.

I’ve never once had a go at him …

Why would you if you were on the same side?

He knows what side of the divide I’m on .. Well .. If 56 to two unionists is a divide

Do you mean you know each other? Did you create the caricature or merely join in with the deception? And 47% to 53% IS a divide

Seen all you (couple of unionists) having a go at him .. I just buzz aff him …

My response to him has been to ridicule. You just “buzz aff him”??? Aye, right? Is that what you call it? You have responded to him as if he was a genuine Labour man because it suits your purposes to argue with a caricature than with a real life representation of the opposition view. That is weak.

Do you ? Probably not .

I have called him up as a black flag since his first day of posting. Lie Alfie, he was an unfunny joke who caused much much much more annoyance than mirth. Now, nobody likes their sense of humour questioned but the attempts at humour from Mrs. Pastry last night are totally missing from Mr. Pastry/Thompson Twin & Alfie Noakes postings. They all have the signs of a cybernat loathing behind them and they did not create humour.

I could create a sneering Cybernat- hates the English McGlashan type caricature (well, if some posters had not beat me to it). I could post something offensive about the voting preferences of Lisbon Lions (again if some posters had not beat me to it), but I have no desire to see this poisonous debate carried on. For all that ernie lynch got slagged, it was extremely rare for him to raise the politics discussion here rather than respond to it. Cybernats are now creating opposition caricatures to argue with because those of us who disagree with your hi-jacking of this blog, have stopped bringing Party Politics on to it. You should consider the same approach (and please, no bleatings about censorship).

What about posting on ..’ Labour hame’ .. Couch, splutter!!

Irony alert- wherever else I post political opinions is my business and that tendency is reciprocated to you. You are not answerable to me and neither I to you. How about, you have a word with your “friend” and tell him to take his unfunny humour on to an SNP site.Mrs. Pastry can stay on CQN though :-)

VVD will console himself wit a rather large wege of dosh and knowing whatever happens on the park he is made for life offit.

He will balance no EL fitba with games versus Citeh, Chelski, arsenal et al, plus marginally.better weather and a wee bit closer to home…

On the downside, he is being asked to step up a class and the evidence is there, for anyone who has been paying attention, that he struggles playing against when one on one with the big boys and guys who have made a career at the sharp end of the game.

Wanyama made his name stepping up versus the likes of Barca

VvD was found out versus a poor inter and Malmo

I wish him best of luck, because he will need it.

  12. I wish Virgil Van Dijk all the best. He is a Rolls Royce of a football player and I can see Southampton as another stepping stone to greatness. I hope we have another sell on clause.

Looks like we are sniffing out for a striker on loan. Fletcher? Michu? Kramaric? I’d prefer to see the other two before Fletcher.

Haw! Stop stealing ma jokes, you!

On the day of the first leg v Malmo, when Paul67 cost us our place in the CL group stage by dissing Abba in his article, thus firing up the Swedes, I posted. . . .” It’s a good job the Swedes’ Spanish rivals in Eurovision back then, Carmen, Nacho, Tito and Ulalia didn’t use the same method of naming the band.”

And don’t say you didn’t see it!

However, I’ll let you off, as the link you posted to the Independent article on the hypocrisy of Cram, Foster et al re drugs cheats in athletics made for excellent reading for those of us who had struggled to keep our dinner down listening to them.

I would say though that Foster’s jig of joy when Bolt won at least conveyed clearly how he was feeling, which is more than can be said for his commentary. Mumblin’ git!

It is going to be interesting the away game against Aberdeen as we will have a pretty new defence and the Dons are showing fine form.I think we will find out if Aberdeen are going to be real challengers or not this season but the new bhoys are going to get a baptism of fire at Pittodrie. H.H.

Well not long now to the hullabaloo that is the transfer window closes up to now Celtic have signed only promising youngsters who may or may not turn out to be good signings.I would have liked to see us bring in a couple of senior type players to help our young squad but it doesnt look if it is going to happen I think with big VVD leaving and the new young centre back coming in the average age of our team will have dropped for me we have a very young squad for European football and lack real experience. H.H.
