Blackett, Christie and our biggest spend in 14 years

846

Tyler Blackett’s arrival, announced moments before halftime on Saturday, was welcome. He’ll immediately push Izzie, who has had no real competition for the left back berth since arriving at Celtic five years ago – an incredible situation.

The Ryan Christie situation surprised me. Ryan performed well against a Celtic defence in a state of flux earlier this month, as he has done previously against us, but it will certainly a curious signing (this morning Inverness Caledonian Thistle announced they have accepted a bid from Celtic).  More on these two later.

As for rumours that we’re about to spend more money on a player than we have since John Hartson arrived 14 years ago……. Well, that is a change of pace. On top of this business, I’m sure there will be more comings and goings in defence, and elsewhere.  Stay tuned……..

Thanks to everyone who entered the raffle for the Golf Day for four at Aberdour.  Taggsy informed the winner (Gerry) by email this morning.

  1. Bsr,

Ha. Aye let’s hope they head back to hiding soon.

I just feel Tonys days are numbered after his couple of no shows. If he does go we defo need a replacement.

  2. Defenders blessed with speed, often have an advantage… Jooes Valarghen, Paul Elliot, Bobo Balde, Didier Agathe,

Over the years, we have had a fair few that lacked pace…. Alan Stubbs, dariuz dwzobchyk, Mowbray, McCarthy, mijstoravick, Brian oneill

  3. The figures being quoted for Simunovic seem inflated & not unique for Zargreb. Apparently they sold a wonderkid to Barcelona a season or so back for €15 million, only to be confirmed later as nearer to €1.5 mil.

Whatever the true sums involved are there is no getting away from his lack of experience & the collective youth of our new look back four. We were in desperate need of some experience before replacing VVD & even more so now. While a striker is essential before the window shuts, I’d also hope we’d add an experienced defensive midfielder & also a Lubo type signing to the mix.

Asking too much perhaps but as the saying goes – There’s no substitute for experience.

  4. Bye VVD. Sometimes made it look effortless in SPL though still made plenty of mistakes that would have been punished by better quality. Couldn’t adapt to the extra effort and concentration required for Europe.

Will be found out big time against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City.

McNeil, Reiper, Elliot, Varga, Bobo, Mjalby all much better centre backs for Celtic….there is even a case to say Stubbs was better too!

  5. Heh Thanks to Oldtim67 for his ticket on Sat.it was good to see Celtic record a 3-1 victory.managed to bump into a few cqnrs.Paul 67 thanks for the blog it was good meeting you tho briefly.

Some tangiential tosh written by some more than made up when Celtic mhen and whummin get debating,as always the context is the betterment of our club.its what we have done from day 1.

We did not die.we have been ongoing since 1888.

it is time,if our league is looked down upon or shed in a false light because the cheat is not here to correct them.

whilst David Murray,as he admitted to the tax tribunal, gained an advantage(by paying players money he would not have been able to) is assumerd to have no advantage from 1999 til the club liquidated.

Rfc conceived, rolled out as policy,in economic and financial terms their Death.

    no one else was involved.

Where’s the blog gone? Spent the last two days trying to catch up to live and now it’s gone.

I have some interloper comments after the brief “nothing to see here” blog on Simovitch (spelling)
