BLANK LOOKS FROM KASPER

KASPER SCHMEICHEL managed five shut-outs in eight Champions League appearances for Leicester City in season 2016/17.

Unfortunately, Denmark’s legendary keeper has conceded EIGHT goals in only two outings for Celtic in Europe’s elite competition in this campaign.

Schmeichel was beaten by Kevin Wimmer’s precise effort for Slovan Bratislava’s consolation effort in the Slovaks’ 5-1 loss at Parkhead on matchday one.

The roof collapsed in one the experienced operator in the next encounter in the Westfalenstadion as Borussia Dortmund piled on the misery on their way to a 7-1 rout with the Hoops outplayed by the Bundesliga club.

DORTMUND DESPAIR…Sermou Guirassy thumps No.6 past Kasper Schmeichel.

The 37-year-old 109 times-capped custodian now has zero ambition when he faces the Italian firing squad of Europa League winners Atalanta in Bergamo this evening.

At the third time of asking, Schmiechel will hope to succeed where his predecessor Joe Hart failed – and keep a clean sheet in Europe’s most glamorous competition.

Hart shipped THIRTY goals in 12 games after making his Hoops debut at this level against the-then holders of the trophy Real Madrid at Parkhead on September 6 2022.

The experienced netminder, a bargain £1million recruit from Spurs in August the previous year, and his team-mates played well for almost an hour before they were hit by a whirlwind three quickfire strikes by the Spaniards as they raced to a 3-0 win.

It got worse in the return in the Spanish capital as the veteran shotstopper was beaten five times – twice from penalty-kicks – as the visitors collapsed to a 5-1 loss.

Hart was just eight minutes away from his first blank in his final appearance in the competition last season with Celtic leading 1-0 via a first-half penalty-kick from Luis Palma against Feyenoord.

BIG NOISE…fans’ favourite Joe Hart has something to say.

However, the keeper’s hopes were scuppered when Yankuba Minteh fired in the equaliser, but the now-retired custodian and his colleagues were celebrating when Gustaf Lagerbielke headed in a 90th-minute winner.

Schmeichel’s aim against he Serie A club on this occasion is to claim that crucial clean sweep and hope his colleagues can do the business at the other end of the pitch.
