Bloom bursts into action

115

In November we discussed Brighton owner Tony Bloom’s interest in Hearts.  Yesterday, Hearts announced that Bloom has made a £9.86m offer to buy a 29% stake in the club, which is currently controlled through the Foundation of Hearts fan group which saved the club from liquidation in 2013.

This prospective shareholding would keep Bloom within Football Association duel ownership rules, in the event Brighton were relegated from the Premier League.  I have no doubt that the fine print would allow Bloom control over all football operations.

Bloom, a gambling savant, is one of the most impressive operators in the game.  His football algorithms are private, but they result in a total commitment to a player development model.  He understands that if a club is to reach its potential, it must fill every space in the squad with players who can develop and be sold at a profit.

There are no passengers, not mid-career drifters.  Guru managers do not exist in Bloom’s world, those who fail to develop or give opportunity to players, do not last.  Even Hearts fans cannot be thick enough to turn this down.

It would be great news for Scottish football, including our Uefa coefficient (eventually).  Celtic would face a fresh challenge from a competitor who is less indulgent than we are.

    Gooners gone.

Their physicality and ability to win the ball in midfield is/was super impressive.

Lots and lots of possession in the final third, but unable to create much.

They’ve just pulled one back 😲

Arsenal get one back, but too little too late.

In all my years watching Celtic participate in European football at Parkhead. PSG have been the best we have faced. IMO.

About time they won the big one.

I’m not saying Bloom’s methods aren’t workable but that they’re prob not unique. I’d be shocked if Celtic (and many other clubs) don’t already use various forms of analytics across multiple departments.

But despite Celtic’s spectacular on-field/off-field successes of recent times, it seems the only analytics that count are the ones used by other suits at some other clubs…

PS 79CAPS: I saw lots of Hibs’ Triantis in A-League where he started out as a very young centre half – always looked promising and I mentioned him as a prospect for us a month or so back.

    Agreed Gene.

Caught highlights of their game last night.

Good game, but Arteta’s comments before and after the game overshadowed it.

I suspect the poor guy is simply galvanising an exhausted group for next season.

Personally, I think he’s done brilliantly. I certainly didn’t expect him to do as well.

    Problem though?

When you temporarily push yourself beyond your 100% limits …

(the club financially / the players physically and emotionally)

To get from “nowhere” to “nearly there”?

How do you then make that leap? – which looks tiny but is huge …

.. From nearly there to winners?

    Big problem.

Faced also by Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Common sense will prevail on offside rule

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has proposed a change to the offside rule that would mean attackers are onside if any part of their body is in line with the last outfield defender.

Wenger, head of global development at world governing body Fifa, said it would restore an advantage to the attacker that many feel was eroded by the introduction of the video assistant referee (VAR).

Players are currently ruled offside if any part of the body, apart from hands and arms, is beyond the last defender

This will help stop crazy ‘toe nail offside’ which has been a common complaint.

I would agree with you, both GCC and Police Scotland (Glasgow Division) are derelict in their duty in allowing an Orange Walk to take place in Glasgow on the same day Celtic will celebrate being SPL Champions and with Celtic supporters arriving in Glasgow from all directions. No doubt hiding behind Article 11 of the HRA and ignoring the risk of the threat to public order. I never tire of telling those who care, or dont care, to listen that Prince William, who became King only as the result of a coup d’etat and a foreign invasion of England dont forget, never ever set foot in Scotland. And neither should any of his followers or fellow travellers. It is a complete and total disgrace, and while the GCC are no friends of Celtic FC, the Police in particular will bend over backwards to facilitate Orange Walks, particularly in Glasgow, which holds more than Belfast. They should hang their heads in shame, but are more likely to join in than do the right thing, which is stop it happening in the first place.

Yip , that did occur when I’ve read about it before.

I think he Wenger proposal is a toe nail in the right direction, so to speak.

As a traditionalist I’m for clear day light, or whole man offside and opposed to VAR micro offside which disallows good goals.

I note the discussions earlier regarding the Dafty Parade Season.

I moved to West Lothian from Belfast in the 80’s, I discovered that there was an annual parade in my new home town , every April ( held on a Friday evening ).. about 15 -20 bands.

There is one benefit of having the Dafty Parade in your own town…. it gives you a gauge of how bitter your neighbours are.

About 30 minutes before the parade, I would see all of my neighbours walking past my window, to take up position on the main street.

These same people would tell me to my face that they don’t agree with the Orange Order etc. ..but they were “just going to hear the music, and to take the kids”.

    Next generation being nurtured.

I suppose it’s all they have left.
